Billboy -> RE: What Recent Concerts Have You Attended? (9/8/2008 6:23:33 PM)

We saw the Dove Bros. in concert at Carmi, IL, yesterday afternoon. It had been a year since we last saw them so we were ready. They are traditional male quartet in about every way, from the matching conservative dress, to the great harmony and piano licks. They sang a lot from their latest cd. A song McCray wrote and sung about looking like the Devil would learn his lesson (sorry, the name escapes me) was a highlight in that part. Other highlights were McCray singing "Antioch Churchhouse Choir", complete with the story about them singing it for Ed O'Neal's Hall of Fame induction, Jerry Martin singing "I Can Pray" (what a great song and message), Jerry singing the old song "Beyond the Sunset" (I never heard it done any better) and David singing the George Younce song "Thanks to Calvary". They ended the concert with "Didn't It Rain" and "Get Away Jordan", back-to-back, including an encore on Jordan. That is a tall order for any group, and of course the crowd was really into it. McCray also recited the words to Jordan after they had sung it, which added real meaning to the song. I still say David is very low, regardless of whom else has been mentioned as low-singing basses. It was also good to see Eric back in good form and voice, and Jerry Kelso is a great quartet keyboard player. We look forward to their next appearance in S IL, whenever that will be. One other thing, although I hate to make comparisons, I still prefer the Dove Bros. version of Get Away Jordan over that of Sig Sound (and I am a fan and follower of EH&SSQ). Both do it well, I just like the Dove's better.[;)]
