I had a chance friday night to see the Kingsmen in concert in waycross, ga. Josh (kingsmenquartet fan) gave a good review in the kingsmen thread, so i'll keep my review short. The kingsmen did a great job and sang their hearts out to a relatively smaller crowd. They sang alot of songs off of their new cd/dvd series (which is great by the way). Most of the songs were from: My past is past, Good Good God and a few older kingsmen standards. I really enjoyed when they brought out "next cloud" again. Another highlight of the night was "I will rise up from my grave". The opening group that night was the Romans Road trio, which i have written about before. They did a really great job of singing some classic songs and some originals. Great group of guys also! I had the privilege of meeting Kingsmenqtfan (Josh) at the concert. Always great to meet someone from the boards!

Just got home from the Soul'd Out Qt concert tonight. It was well attended even though it had rained off and on all day. Soul'd Out had motor home trouble even before they left home this morning. Were able to get the motor home started, but could not turn it off or it would not start they were told. Also their GPS sent them the shortest way, but it also took the longest time to drive. Very narrow mountain curvey road. Not the best to be on with a motor home. They a arrived about 30 minutes late and then had to set-up, check sound, and change clothes. They started the concert as soon as they could, and I don't think it bothered anyone that they were late. What a concert we had. I did not keep track of the songs they sang, but they all were great. We had church I can tell you. You could feel God in that building. Tanner, out own "Hogfan" sure can sing and play the piano. God has blessed that young man with many talents which Tanner uses for the Lord. Also this was Dusty Barrett's first concert with the group. He was very good. I beleive he will be a good fit for Soul'd Out. They blend well and if they can do this on the first concert with all of the problems they had, it can only get better, although I don't see how it could have been any better. I am glad that I will be seeing them again tomorrow night. I know it will be a good concert.

Ok, so I just got home from the Brian Free & Assurance concert in Concord, NC. It was absolutely wonderful!!! Every single time I see these guys I am just blown away with the talent they have! They are not only very gifted singers, but they also have such an evident love for the Lord. Every single one of those guys truly want to glorify the Lord in everything they do and it shines through in their singing! The crowd was not as big as I had expected and many of the people in attendance had never seen the guys before, at first it was a rough crowd but they finally warmed up and we had a great time! There were many highlights of the night for me, but the two that stand out the most are when they sang "Healed" which features Derrick; and then when someone requested Brian to sing "You've Got to Pray" from their new album Real Faith. "Healed" was absolutely wonderful! I think it was definitely a turning point in the night that brought everyone in the audience together. Some of those folks that had never seen the group perform before were a bit timid in the beginning b/c of songs like "Praying Man" which are a bit more up tempo than other SG songs, but after Derrick sang "Healed" it was like the Lord just took over the place. It was AMAZING!!! I wish I were still there!!! Then a bit later someone requested Brian sing "You've Got To Pray". Brian said they had only sang this song two or three times before and he may need help with the words. It was great, he didnt' miss a beat! That song is just amazing!! I think they need to add that song into their set for sure! I've seen them do that song two times already and it's been incredible both times! Of course those were not the only two songs of the night. They sang many of their great songs like "For God So Loved", "In My Robe Of White", "I Believe God" (their new single), "If It Takes A Valley", "Save Me A Seat" (from their new Real Faith Album), and of course they ended with "As Long As I Got King Jesus"! It was truly an amazing night! Oh, and Brian did announce that they have a new DVD coming out very soon, keep an eye on their website for when it will be released!

Well, i attended two nights of Bill Bailey's spring gospel music jubilee. Here is my recap of the nights of my attendance: I will be commenting only on the main groups: usually bill has a few opening soloists as a "pre-concert" type deal. The ones on the normal rotation are Debbie Domer and Wilma Smith. There was a few different ones from what i can tell, but i don't remember names Thursday Night @ 7:30 pm Main Line Up: Down East Boys, Karen Peck and New River, and The Kingsmen First up Down East Boys. The down east boys did a great job coming out and wowing the crowd. The DEB sang mostly from their last few cd's. They are a great quartet in our industry and the crowd really enjoyed them! Ricky is really a GREAT lead singer and their bass singer is solid. Of course, Jason runnels is as solid as ever on tenor. Their new baritone blends great with the group, also. Some Highlights of their program: "i'm saved", "mountains will be shaken, "Shoutin on the hills", "i remember the time". They sang more off of their new cd (which i purchased and its a great QT cd) Next was Karen Peck and New River This, from my recollection, was the first time I had a chance to see new river. I was really impressed by the harmonies and stage presence. Now i will openly admit i'm not the biggest KPNR fan, but I did enjoy them! Karen does a great job emcee and also really knows how to communicate to the audience. Highlights: "Hey", "Four Days Late", and a few others that I can't remember by name. And to be honest, I was fighting with my stale nachos through a small portion of the set :) Last - The Kingsmen To my suprise, the crowd was really enthused for the Kingsmen. This is not a knock to the kingsmen, but the last few concerts i went to ...the crowd just didn't get into it (no fault of the kingsmen!). But the kingsmen really tore it up. I think the guys have been working hard to work with the strengths of each singer. The kmen did a mix from Good Good God, Fan favorites, My past is passed, and Born Again. Highlights: "beautiful home", "The cross has won again", "next cloud", "the old ship of zion"...and they threw in a few more old kmen songs that went over well! The crowd was really good for a thursday night! Possibly 350 - 400. The demographic was for the vast majority the over 50 crowd. negatives- The sound wasn't up to normal par. I know this is a complaint that is not common, but it wasn't loud enough and didn't have the punch it should have. I even heard this from a few of the more elderly people lol Last comments- Bill Bailey did emcee, but the special guest emcee was Mr. Danny Jones from the SN...he always does a great job at events like this. I will post part two seperately as not to make this post extremely long!

I saw the Collingsworth Family last night. It was a great concert--the first one I'd actually been able to catch since a Perrys' concert last October.

Sounds wonderful, Steven!!! We saw Karen Peck & New River last night. They appeared with the Whisnants and a local group called Second Coming. Second Coming had a guest artist with them - Rabbit Easter - and I really enjoyed him on the steel guitar and the dobro. I've posted some videos of Karen Peck but haven't had time to get to the Whisnants videos yet. Here are the ones from KP&NR: Medley of songs Hey! Four Days Late Last Night

We attended one of the three nights of the IL Quartet Convention at Marion, IL, Friday night. There were 12 regional groups appearing that night and we stayed for 9 of them and left because of the lateness of the hour and the hour's drive home. They were from fair to excellent, but we enjoyed ourselves and were blessed by what we heard. There is one group that deserves special note. That group is "One Voice". I truly believe they can sing with many of the groups we see who travel full-time. They are a men's trio, and their tenor is Matt Throgmorton from Marion, who was once the tenor for the Florida Melody Boys. Their lead, and co-founder, Brian Cowling is a very talented singer. They have a relatively new baritone singer whose last name is Baker, and he fit right in. They sung mostly original material during their set. We had them at our church a couple of years ago and they sang mostly Greater Vision songs, so we were impressed by their material. We would like to see a full concert from them again.
