We went to see the Providence Quartet last night. They are from Columbus, GA. They sounded good together and the first part of the program had some good songs. After offering they did a radio type program with two mikes imitating J Bazel Mull's radio program. I was not impessed at all with this part of their program.

I had a great weekend of concerts. It started Friday 4/4/08 in Winston-Salem NC. The Hoppers, along with the original Hopper Brothers and Connie wowed a crowd of over 1,000. This crowd was enthusiastic from the first notes of "Marriage Supper Of The Lamb" to the final encore of "Jerusalem". It was three hours of great music, fellowship, laughter and a brief message. I was in attendance last year when the Hoppers recorded their two new videos at Reynolds Auditorium. I would have to say I enjoyed Friday night's concert even more (hard to believe, I know). Highlights: "Living Water", "I've Come Too Far", "My Only Option", "Jerusalem", "Yahweh", "Grace Will Always Be Greater Than Sin", "You're Home To Stay", "Yes I Am" and "Marriage Supper Of The Lamb". **I have to add this little story on the evening. There were a lot of young people there Friday night (aged 30 - under). There was a young man who sat behind me, looked as though he was 15-16 years old. I know individuals get annoyed if someone around them decides they are going to sing with the group (sometimes I get annoyed myself). This kid sang with the group the entire night. He knew every song, even the ones the original Hopper Brothers & Connie did. I actually received a blessing as a result. I could only think if a kid this age is enjoying Southern Gospel music this much, then he could've sung at the top of his lungs if he wanted to. Note to self: This was the best concert of the year so far!!

Then, on Saturday 4/5/08 I was in Waynesboro VA to see Triumphant Qt, Soul'd Out Qt and Keith Plott. Another great concert to coincide with Friday night's concert. Triumphant Qt proved why they are one of the leading quartets in Southern Gospel music. Soul'd Out only gets better everytime I see them. A few highlights: Triumphant - "He Is", "Old White Flag", "The Cloud He's Coming Back On" (yes, the Goodmans song), "It's A Wonderful Day", "The Great I Am Still Is" and "Delivered Again". Soul'd Out - "That's Where My Battles Are Won", "He Is My Lamb", "When I Got Saved" and "He's Been So Good To Me". To be honest, the biggest highlight of the night was to be able to catch up and talk with Tyler (youngartist), Tanner (hogfan) and Ruth (Miss Gizmo). You guys are great. Hope to see ya'll again soon!

Those concerts sound so wonderful, Steve! I'm glad some of the posters were able to get together. That's neat, isn't it?!?!?!?

All I can say is "ditto" to everything Seaton said. I agree, the biggest highlight was getting to chat with him, Tanner, and Ruth. Looking forward to seeing you at another concert soon! More concert highlights: Triumphant - Jeff Stice piano solo "Hallelujah Chorus," David Sutton/Jeff Stice instrumental, "The Old White Flag," "I Wish It Would Rain," "The Cloud He's Coming Back On," "It's A Wonderful Day," and "He Is." Soul'd Out - pretty much everything they sang was great! I'm waiting for them to emerge with a Top 10 single - it shouldn't be long! Dusty Barrett was singing just his second night with the group, but I was VERY impressed. He's a very strong, very high tenor and fit in extremely well. Keith Plott - I enjoyed "I Hear My Father Calling Me," and a few other of his songs, but I've never been a big SG soloist fan. FINALE: For the finale, Eric Bennett called on Soul'd Out and Keith Plott and they sang some impromptu songs like "Just A Little Talk With Jesus" (with a little friendly bass competition going on), "I'll Fly Away," "Beulah Land" "Long Black Train" (just about my favorite song of the evening), and "How Great Thou Art." It was fantastic! Notes: -the luxury of having a soundman offstage really struck me. Triumphant's sound guy had their mix and sound perfect - even from the balcony. Soul'd Out tore down the house as well, but a couple of times at the end of their songs the sound was almost piercing. Not bad, but could've been mixed/adjusted better. (Tanner, I'm not picking on you guys - you did GREAT. ) -I loved chatting with Tanner and getting his story on how he joined Soul'd Out, and how he came to love SG. He's da bomb.

Agreed, I don't mind solo artists, but nowadays there are just too many. Keith's great bass singing is being missed by not singing in a quartet. I was impressed with Matt's performance on "How Great Thou Art". That is probably the best vocal I've ever heard from him. It was great! Tanner, I get home from a great concert to see the highlight reel of a very disappointing UNC lost to Kansas. Oh well, I can't have it all.

I agree with all Steve has to say. It sure was good to meet some of you at the concert Saturday night. I also had my foster grandson with me. Both Soul'd Out & Triumphant took the time to talk to Alex and made him feel special. None of them had seen any other children there that night and wanted to make sure he was enjoying the concert. He was and can hardly wait to go back to see another.

wow...the triumphant, soul'd out, and keith plott concert sounded like a great time! Thanks for all the great reviews. Soul'd out is one of the groups that i'd really like to see in concert soon. Now here comes the next installment of the bill bailey spring jubilee Friday Night- Lineup: Perrys, Mark Trammell Trio, and Randy Perry. The concert opened up with a newly formed local group. The Weeks Family. 2 of the members were from longtime jacksonville, florida quartet: "the regents" They did a good job for just starting out! Nice people also First up was Randy Perry. He did an excellent job singing some old favorites and getting the crowd warmed up and ready. Next was a black gospel soloist who is a favorite at the bill bailey sings. She did a great job too. I do not remember her name, but i believe her first name is Gayle. As my normal habit, during the end of randy's set and gayle's i was struggling with the nachos again. I'm an addict Then came the mark trammell trio. They were very well recieved by the crowd! They had to have sing 6 or 7 songs straight. Afterward introductions, mark called Nick (his son from the perry's) to the stage and had him call Jessica Brown. Mark let the crowd sing "happy birthday" for the "princess". Nice little moment. The guys went on to sing many other songs. I really enjoy the Mark Trammell Trio...great sound...really great people offstage! Dustin is really funny...really quick wit about him. Highlights: "Won't it be wonderful there", "once upon a cross", "a little closer home" and many others! Next were the perrys. WOW! I have saw the perrys many times in concert, but i do not believe i have EVER heard the perrys sing like that! The crowd was going crazy for them. Cheering, clapping, wanting encores, throwing babies, standing ovations, wheel chairs and canes a flyin. The sound was really good. Everyone was singing at their best...and of course, matthew was TEARIN UP the keyboard. The perrys were geuinley having a blast on stage....they did some goodmans songs...then tracy made asked libbi to sing "his name was john" and she gave him the i can't take anymore look lol But they sang it..and then encored it twice lol The crowd just couldn't get enough and the perrys just gave it to them. Highlights: The entire night! "Wish i could have been there", All the goodmans songs, Damascus road, Look No Further, Who am I (with mark trammell), "his name was john"- on this song...dustin sweatman from MTT jumped on the keyboard and matthew sang bass (once again the crowd was just a cheerin lol). The potter knows the clay (which will be their new single). I have been to numerous concerts, but i'm not sure if i've been to too many that have been more energetic. Also, if there was someone new to SG and you wanted to expose them to this music...i would say the Perry's definitely would be a great group to choose!

Seaton: Glad to hear that you enjoyed the Hoppers concert! I can't wait to see them in person again! I went to see Gold City last night at a little country church, this was my first time seeing them in person, they were great! They sang "I'm Not Giving Up" "I'm Saved, I'm Sure, "I'm Ready" "Preach the Word" and many others. It was about 2 hours long. Amy Jo Riley, Chapen and Griffin were there, and Danny told about Doug's accident for those who didn't know, and introduced them to the crowd. I loved it!

I went to see Jessy Dixon last night. There were some local groups, The Bradfords, Rivermen Quartet (My best friend's dad's group) and Full Circle. I have never heard the Bradfords before, and I was impressed, they had a great blend. I haven't heard Full Circle in a long time and was so happy I got to hear them again, we know the owners of the group and when I was little I got sing with them. The Rivermen have gone from being a male quartet to being three men and one woman, but they were good too. Jessy was great! He sang for about an hour, he wanted to sing "Highway To Heaven" but they could only find the Reprise on the CD he gave them. But needless to say, his testimony of his healing of asthma and his singing was great! He ended the concert with "I'll Put On A Crown And Walk Around" and it was amazing!

I had the chance to catch the Dove Brothers in Thomasville NC Saturday 04/12/08. They were at their finest! A great program of music, entertainment and a moving close (prayer) to the evening. Their new songs are fantastic. They are easily one of the leading quartets of the year. Here is the song list. 1st set: I Will Lay Them At His Feet / I Still Got A Feeling / Never Ever The Same / Taking It Back / I'm Gonna Make It / One More Miracle / You Would Think He Would Learn (Great new song!!) / Kelso Piano Solo / You Don't Know God's Love / Face To Face With Grace / I Can Pray 2nd set: He's All That I Need (tribute to Blackwood Bros.) / Shout It Out (one of the best performances of the night) / Lonesome Road / Didn't It Rain / Get Away Jordan **On "Shout It Out", they called a kid up from the audience to sing with them on the song. He kept up with them and actually did good. He was singing right along with Jerry Martin. It brought the house down. They had to encore the song, it was great!

We went to Fairfield, IL, to see the Kingsmen today, at what has been their annual appearance at the same venue for the past few years. We last saw them there last year when Jeremy Peace was still with them and Brian Hudson had just rejoined them, so this was the first time to see Harold Reed as their tenor. The last time we had seen Harold was at the same venue a few years ago with the Dixie Melody Boys. He was sporting a beard and spiked hair today, but it was the same good, high tenor, and he really seemed to be in his element. I thought this current group had great stage chemistry, and seemed to have a lot of fun as well as made good music and presented the gospel in song. Brian has basically taken over the duties as mc and did a very good job. This is the best Kingsmen group, imho, since Jeremy, Phillip, Tim, and Ray Dean. The one thing missing today was a piano player. Phillip told me they had been without one since December, but would again have a piano player beginning next Sunday. Brandon did not play drums, either, but he did run their sound. This was the first time I ever saw them with only tracks. They did a good job, mixing recent stuff, with a lot of the older Kingsmen hits. One highlight was the old Jim Hill song, "What A Day That Will Be". Harold sang the verses on that one, and it literally got the full-house crowd into the spirit. Brian wisely called for the chorus to be sung again by all present, without music, and it sounded like one big, good choir. The second half was all requests, including "Healing Stream" that Ray Dean continues to shine on, "Wish You Were Here", that Brian sings almost as well as Tim did, among others. We were blessed and entertained. The Kingsmen still put the big quartet ending on most of the songs they do, which is a bit of a throwback to the older quartet style, and the crowd really seemed to like that aspect. We were really glad we went, my bad back and all, and had a great afternoon of church. The Kingsmen are still the Mighty Kingsmen! We look forward to their return next Spring.

I was able to see the McKameys in Lynchburg, Virginia in a concert last night. It was good to Eli on the stage with his grandparents, parents, & aunt. He is looking well after the kidney transplant. The singing was good with Eli joining in on several songs and doing one with his Mother & Father. It was easy to see that the McKameys have the next generaltion in the making. This is a God loving family singing for God and having a good time doing it.
