I finally have some video links from the Chuck Wagon Gang concert last night. I got so much that I just put several compilation videos together. Here they are: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 By the way, Jenny Greene (alto from CWG) has registered for our little forums - cwggal is her screen name! Maybe we can convince her to actually post here, too!!!

I just watched the videos and they really captured the group well. Maybe you should sit further back more often. My personal opinion is that the sound was better from the back. Anyway, loved the videos. Penny has a gorgeous low alto voice. Enjoyed it greatly!!!

I like those old songs, of course most old folks like old songs, but Dave don't do much talking. They do a lot of singing. Hard to realize how many songs were sang until you saw the videos and I'm sure that wasn't all the songs they sang. They are a great bunch of folks to be around and we had interesting conversations during lunch with them. You get to know a lot about people in situations like that.

In Springfield Missouri, KWFC (Radio station) hosted a Free Southern Gospel Concert for their 39th anniversary. Friday Night, April 18, 2008 Featuring.... The Ascension Qt. - Based in Lebanon Missouri, this is a group that I had only heard of them until they sang in my church this year. They have great blending voices, and some good songs too. Mark Bishop - Wow! He sang a lot of great songs that really touched your heart. By the end of his first performance, there wasn't a dry eye in the building, as we gave a standing ovation. Karen Peck and New River - She sang a lot of her big hits, although I don't really keep up with her music, I recognized some from hearing them on the radio. Of course she sang Four Days Late, and I want to Know how It Feels. The last group was the main featured artist, Gold City. This was the first time I got to hear their new lead, Bruce Taliaferro. They started out with their older big hits like In my Robe of White. Most of their songs had the whole audience on their feet clapping. I'm not exaggerating, the crowd was so enthusiastic that God City had to reprise most of their songs. You could tell it startled them at first, probably wondering what they had gotten themselves into. Daniel's look on his face said "Oh no, not this kind of crowd." And Bruce's look said, "What's going on here?" During their second performance they sang It's Still the Blood gave a reprise, and the audience was wanting them to go on with a second reprice. Josh was on the piano giving a look that said Ready to go Again? But Daniel stopped the song saying that it they continued they wouldn't have any voice left for their next concert the following morning. They ended with Bruce singing The Midnight Cry, and of course by the end everyone was standing up making a lot of noise. It was an awesome concert!!!

We nearly always have door prizes, a way of helping maintain a mailing list. At last nights concert 44.6% of the people that attended were not on the mailing list indicating that they had never attended a concert we have promoted. This was the third time I've had the Gang. Makes you wonder, Where have they been?????

A Saturday 04/26/08 10am showcase featured several great artists and was a highlight for the week. *One Way Trio - A new group from Kannapolis NC that I was introduced to. They have a really great sound. They are a mixed trio with a piano player. I can see them going places with the right song selection! *Lesters - They turned in a fine set. "I Have Seen The Light", "He Didn't Throw The Clay Away" and their cover of "He Is" capped off a fine performance. *Kirk Talley - He went through sinus surgery three weeks ago, so his vocals weren't you are used to hearing. This was the first time I had seen him perform in well over seven years. *Collingsworth Family - A great family group that has a lot of talent. Kim always astounds on the piano and today was no different. "We Still Believe" and "The Blood Of Jesus" were highlights of their set. *Whisnants - They sang an additional three songs including a great song "The Past Is A Promise". *Greenes - They also did three songs to cap off the showcase including a power house tune "God Is Singing Over Me". Folks, Singing in the Sun has been wonderful. If you have never been you really ought to think about going. After this year this will probably become an annual event for me. Tonight we close out the week with Triumphant Qt, Gold City and Karen Peck & New River. Later....

I'm back from Singing in the Sun in Myrtle Beach. I didn't know who Seaton was so didn't meet but I did meet Donna Strong and her sister who are Hearts of Faith. Donna posts here. Absolutely wonderful concert. Everyone was fantastic. Triuphant closed the program and were super as ususal. Seaton I'm sure can give you a better review but I think next year I will try to attend more than one night. BTW...Bruce did a wonderful job as the new lead with Gold City. Edited to add...I didn't mean to short change Gold City...I loved them. My only complaint is the program ran long and the promoter in my opinion had crammed too many groups into one concert so everyone was short changed on time especially the last two groups. It was the first time I've seen Gold City...look forward to seeing them again in the near future. They are in my top 5 favorite groups!!!! Roy Webb was there entertaining the crowd too. Also first time I've seen the Pfeifers...and boy can John preach. He was the speaker last night. 5 people were saved last night. I think the promoter said 38 people in all were saved during the 4 day event. Now that's wonderful.

GVFan will give you a better rundown on the program last night, but we were at the Gaither Homecoming Give It Away Tour. It was a great evening, we had to leave at break. The program was a little over three hours prior to break. Signature Sound and the GVB did almost half the program before the break. The others on most part only sang two songs. My personal opinion I like the Gather Vocal Band best of all, they just have a good sound and good stage performance. I must mention that Ms Eva Mae was there, as usual giving Bill a hard time. Everyone had a Pick On Bill night.

My mom and I went with a group from our church to the Women of Faith Conference over the weekend in Columbus, OH. Needless to say I'm dead tired. It started 10am Friday morning and ended 10pm friday with a lunch break and a break between 3:30 and 6pm. It began again Saturday morning at 9am and ended at 5 with 3 little breaks. After we went up and got in line (well a little early we left to get in line) for Natalie Grant. We met her, she was really sweet and her twin baby girls are so adorable. After that we made our 2 hour drive home just for enough time for me to change and make it down to the fairgrounds at 8pm for the Relay For Life I was performing at for their ceremony. That started at 9 and was out of there by 10. Needless to say I'm dead tired right now lol. The Artists and Speakers were: Patsy Clairmont, Shelia Walsh, Marilyn Meburg, Sandi Patty, Natalie Grant, Nicole Johnson, Nicole C Mullen, Luci Swindoll, Anita Renfroe, and Jan Silvious. I had a really good time though!

Now to recap the final night of the 2008 Singing in the Sun, 04/26/08. GlavFan, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you. I know there were several other posters at the event. After this year's event I think I will be trading in going to NQC annually and instead go to Singing in the Sun. I love being at the beach during the day and enjoying great Southern Gospel music at night. Next year they plan to add Tuesday night and either John Hagee or Charles Stanley (hasn't been confirmed yet) will be preaching. Highlights in order of appearance. *Karen Peck & New River - As was the case the previous nights, artists decided it best to go with their bread & butter songs. KPNR opened with "Last Night" (WOW!!) and also sang other #1 hits "Hey", "Hold Me While I Cry" and "Four Days Late" (this song, still after 8 years, gets amazing response). A true mark of a classic! Great set!! *Shaffers - This was the first time I had a chance to see this group. I was impressed and can guarantee it won't be the last. Three of the four family members play instruments and the live band sound really adds to their program. Their style is a mix of Southern Gospel/Country. The testimony of the young lady in the group was something. *Pfeifers - They were really good. They now have a pianist and it really adds a lot to their program. The gentlemen does some singing also which adds more to the harmonies of the group. Their program set the mood for the message delivered by John Pfeifer. "Fighting On" and "Father's House" were highlights of their set. *Message, then break *Victoria Huggins - This young lady is a regular at Ray Flynn events. She turned in a really good performance of Martina McBride's "Anyway". *Gold City - Their set did seem to go by rather quickly. Bruce did a fine job on the lead. As was mentioned by others he really adds something different to the group. They are not any better or any worse without Jonathan Wilburn, just different (in a good way). Aaron turned in some great bass singing on "After Awhile". Other highlights included "When He Calls, I'll Fly Away", "Preach The Word", "In My Robe Of White" and "Ain't That What It's All About". *Triumphant Quartet - Unlike other evenings, Saturday night had to end by 11pm. That gave Triumphant a little over 30 minutes. They gave the audience "The Cloud He's Coming Back On", "For God So Loved" (WOW!!), "Old White Flag", "It's A Wonderful Day" and ended their set with the current hit "The Great I Am Still Is"

Final thoughts on the 2008 Singing in the Sun: *Roy Webb was their all week. He added great humor, a powerful testimony regarding the death of his father, his playing skills with the Booth Brothers and even co-emceed with Greg Cook. I left the event with even more respect for this great pianist. *One of the biggest highlights of the week was the Thursday evening post show. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday after each artist did their main set, a concert post show was given and each evening was different. Dean Hopper pulled a bit of Gaither and created the post show on Thursday. He created different combinations of artists and had them sing. He had Brian Free, Ivan Parker, Bill Shivers (singing baritone) and Jeremy Lile sing "When I Get Carried Away". Kim, Dean, Claude and Derrick Selph (he sang the second verse and really pulled out one fine vocal!) sang the "Lighthouse". Then, Kim, Ivan, Bill and Jeremy sang "What A Lovely Name". Then all the artists from the evening came together to sing the encore of "Shoutin' Time". The crowd was loving every minute of it.

We saw a Regional Group last night VOICES WON. They are a trio from Dalton, GA. Three brothers. I've had them open several of our concerts, they are a great bunch of guys and getting better and better. They have a song that has charted on Singing News Fishing Trip. This is a great song and you can look for it to get higher on next months chart. If you have the opportunity to see them don't miss them. They will be in the Tuesday showcase at NQC.
