Attended concert in Terrell Tx on Saturday Jan27 - went to hear the Kingsmen and they were great, but the concert was a huge disappointment because the sound was turned way down and you couldn't hear Jeremy Peace or Ray Dean. We complained to the guy in charge at intermission so the 2nd half was wonderful but short. So overall it was a waste of $36 and we definitely won't be back....

Come on over to our concert in Hoopeston Illinois Saturday for Greater Vision I would love to come to Marion Illinois but to much to do before the concert.. Hoopeston is about 200 miles from me, a bit too far to go and come home in the same night. I was the Ag teacher at Ridge Farm HS for a year in the late 60s, and it was about 160 miles from here. As I remember, Hoopeston was on the N end of Vermilion county, about another 40 miles from Ridge Farm on the S end of the county. Our oldest son was born in Danville.

Last week we saw three concerts; The Kingsmen, Kevin Spencer and Friends and a local group, The Watchmen. This Friday night we will be in concert with The Melody Boys, here in Orange County, California. EVIDENCE will be opening for this historic SG Quartet and we are really looking forward to this evening together.

Thur is Crystal River and Booth Bros., Fri is Greater Vision, and Sat is M Speck Trio and Ivan Parker. We will for sure go the first 2 nights. Saw Crystal River and the Booth Brothers last night. Great concert, with great music, fun, and a wonderful spirit. Crysal River has really improved since seeing them a year ago. They sung a mixture of cover songs and songs that I assumed were mostly theirs. They have excellent voices, blend well together, and they demonstrate a love for the Lord, and singing about him. No one mentioned that Jeremy was leaving from the stage, but before the concert he told me it was his last weekend with C R. They will really miss his voice, and it will affect what they do. Hopefully, they will find a good replacement. The lead singer/mc told the audience they were young guys who hadn't learned to properly comb their hair yet, and that got a big laugh from the mostly older crowd. My sense was they went over very well with the crowd in general. The Booth Brothers were in great form. I still think Michael is one of the funniest SG performers I have seen, since so much of his humor seems to come spontaneously, as opposed to being planned. For example, in the C R set, they sung a song where Jeremy used his voice as the percussion section while the others sang. Of course, Michael tried to do that, in a very humorous fashion, when they came out. They also did a thing with Cowboy hats that was hilarious, that I had not seen before. (We saw the last in August.) Fun aside, IMO they have the purest harmony blend this side of the Isaacs. They sang many of their hits, and really did a great job to Look For Me at Jesus' Feet, this time with a soundtrack rather that just with the piano. They talked about singing that song exactly one year ago last night on the Gaither cruise, with only Anthony Burger accompanying them on the piano, and what happened with Anthony about 3 hours later. Then they sung the song, and it was full of emotion for everyone. To sum up, we really like the Booth Brothers!!! We will see them at every opportunity. Great concert, Great night!!!!

Last night we were privileged to see Greater Vision. Their name sums them up, which is great, always. The concert promoters have gone to giving them Friday night by themselves instead of sharing with another big-name group, which we like, because it gives them more time to just visit, Gerald to play the piano, etc. Gerald did a beautiful rendition of "When They Ring Those Golden Bells" on the keyboard, and also played a couple of other solos. They mostly sang songs from the Fifteen project, and songs from the new project they did for Dr. Stanley's group, and from their Hymns project. Gerald told the same stories we have heard before, but they are still funny, and Rodney's "dumb guy" expression he gets when Gerald is telling one of his stories about him is always hilarious. Rodney also shared an extensive testimony at the end, coupled with an altar call. One lowlight that they turned into something humorous: Gerald was commenting that he understood we had Crystal River there the night before. He said they are only about 10 miles from them but have never heard them. Some yokel in the back of the Civic Centre yelled out really loud that Gerald should spend 15 bucks and go see them. Gerald stopped and looked astonished and Rodney grabbed his mike and looked upward and said, "Yes, Lord". That created a laugh from the crowd and we all moved on. I have never understood why someone in the audience trys to engage the group on stage in conversation during the concert, but we see it happen every once in awhile. One other thing, Gerald was wearing glasses. We thought they gave him a distinguished, "professorly" look.

We saw BFA and the Perry's last night and, as expected, we enjoyed it immensely. It was our first opportunity to see Nick with the Perry's and hear Joseph take the lead part. Although I really loved the line-up with Loren on lead, Joseph and Nick took the songs and made them their own. BFA sang as a trio and sounded great. Brian said the new bass singer would start next weekend.

Last night was the final night of the Truthseekers Homecoming concert series. We almost didn't go due to cool damp weather with periods of heavy rainfall. Also, my bias is I do not like soloists as well as groups, and I do not like M Speck Trio as well as groups that sing their own songs. What a mistake we would have made if we had listened to our own reasoning! Instead we put on raingear and drove 45 miles to Marion. It turned out to be the most blessed night of the whole week, and that is saying a lot if you have read my previous reviews. Mike Speck is a genius as a worship leader, and he turned last night's concert into just that, without the benefit (or distraction) of "words on the wall". They opened with Tony Gore's song, "Oh What Glory, and that set the stage. They all have very good voices, and my wife and I both think that Stacy sings with the most enthusiasm of anyone we have seen. It was nice being a part of a 1300 member choir on a lot of songs that we already knew. Ivan Parker, being the true professional he is, followed and continued in the same spirit. The crowd at Marion already loves Ivan from his Gold City days. They were regulars at these same concerts in the old Marion Civic Centre back then, to standing-room only crowds. Ivan sang from his new cd, which had a mixture of new and old songs, as well as singing his signature songs. Again, it was great being a member of such a huge choir singing "Midnite Cry and " I Get Carried Away". He also sang the Ray Boltz song, "Thank You", which I always thought of as one of the CCM songs that I like, but Ivan made it his own, and we really liked it. Ditto, one of my favorites, "I Can Only Imagine". Finally, he and the Specks sang together on the stage, both alternating and joining together. Mike said they had never appeared with Ivan before, but you would never have known it. They sang such classics as "Sweet Beulah Land" and "Oh, What A Savior", as well as medelies, with Mike signalling to Ivan when to sing and what was coming next in the arrangement. It was all done very seamlessly and professionally. We definitely came away with a new view and respect for Mike Speck, and Ivan will always be Ivan! It was a great ending for 3 nights of worship through song. We already are looking forward to next year's homecoming.

Billboy, I love Mike Speck and the trio. They are tremendous together. Recently, there was a 3 1/2 day music seminar in Atlanta and my sister's choir got to sing backup for the Specks on his musical "Redeemed." (They even let me sing with them!) Mike was wonderful. The crowd just would not get into the spirit so the Choir and The Specks "had church" and ignored the audience! It was teriffic. I agree with you that Mike is a master at setting the stage for the Holy Spirit to come on in and "have church."

Today we attended the Kingsmen concert in Fairfield, IL. We also enjoyed this one. The concert host took the mic at the end and said to Ray that he had the old Kingsmen sound back. I got to hear one of my favorite songs for the 2nd time this week, "Look For Me At Jesus' Feet". Jeremy did a great job on it. The quartet does it a little differently than the Booth Bros., but I will not compare them. I love the song and they both brought great honor to Squire Parson's songwriting abilites with their performances. They also did "Oh, What A Savior", by request, and "Glory Road". Jeremy was cooking on all burners on all 3 of the songs I named. I believe I might like the Kingsmen version of Glory Road better than any others I have recently heard. I will post more on the Kingsmen thread.

Last night I had the chance to see the Dove Brothers. This was the first time I heard them sing Look For Me At Jesus Feet in a live setting. The recorded cut on Shout It Out doesn't even come close. They nailed it! Even better than that they sang for two hours mixing their new songs with the classics. It was one of their best performances. Easily my favorite concert performance so far this year!!

We saw Greater Vision last night in Rome, GA. They were wonderful - as always. Here's a song list for Daniel. They did several songs from the new Hymns of the Ages CD (I'll put those in bold). Tell Me the Story of Jesus Paid in Full Through Jesus, Amen God's Got a Bigger Thing Going On With All the Many Miracles I'm Living in Canaan Now - shaped note second verse! I Know He Heard My Prayer Redeemed Medley It Is No Secret - Gerald - keyboard solo and audience Faces My Name is Lazarus Lily of the Valley He'd Still Been God There Is a River (with Rodney playing bass and Gerald singing lead and playing the keyboard) Your Story I Love to Tell the Story In Times Like These - beautifully sung by Gerald

Daniel - I'd say it was still meditative although they did modulate higher a couple of times during repeats of the chorus at the end which finished it off very nicely.

Gold City has not been within traveling distance of us since we saw them in Feb, 06. We would really like to see them, with Aaron with them. Give us a report.
