Yesterday afternoon, i had the opportunity to catch the Old Paths Quartet in an afternoon concert for West Jacksonville Baptist Church's homecoming. The attendance was just about full, plus alot in the balcony area (and that is really suprising for an afternoon concert -post dinner)

The old paths did an outstanding job as always. imho, one of the top quartets in the industry today. One thing that was really cool was they had a chance to effectively minister to the crowd in not only song but through testimony. Doug did an excellent job of sharing his testimony, challenging hearts, and picking the right song during the testimony. They gave a great altar call and had a great response. Of course, every member of the group did a top notch job singing. As always, great moments of comedy thrown in there too

Songs that i can remember:
Won't it be wonderful there
Boundless Love
He will see you through
Look For Me at Jesus feet
Somebody touched the Lord
Living in Canaan
Echoes from the burning bush (complete with the bass and tenor trade off as seen on youtube)
We'll sing a song
They may have did Oh bless his name...but i can't remember haha
the op did some more songs than this but again.. i can't remember.

Once again, GREAT CONCERT...Great crowd...and as always, it was cool gettin to chat with the guys at the end of the concert.

i was hoping to make it to their evening concert but i had other obligations at my church that night that came up.

We were there... It was our first time to see them, but hopefully not the last. As stated, they effectively incorporated worship, ministry and fun into a concert where a many folks were dragging...except for the pastor who said he didn't eat too much so he could preach to others about the sin of gluttony!

This is a little late, but when I saw the Roarks on June 28 as the opening act at the Mull Singing Convention I was tremendously impressed by the voice of Shane Roark. He has one of the best voices I have heard and I look forward to purchasing his next solo project. He could succeed in any genre of music.

The only times I have had a comparable feeling was the first times I heard Jake Hess, Kim Hopper and David Phelps sing, and Kim Collingsworth play piano.

The baritone singer sure didn't look like Eric. Did I miss something?

You're right. The baritone was Charlie Strong who was filling in since Eric had shoulder surgery. I mentioned that in the description section for the video, but hardly anyone reads the extended part of the description!! Charlie was really very good.

OK, thanks! I often read the extended part, but I must have neglected to this time.

WOW!
Attended three nights of the SoGospelNews Fan Festival in Smyrna, TN at the River of Life Church. Johnny Minick is the pastor there. Most of you remember Johnny when was with the Goodmans.
Monday night started out with the Quicks, a family group and they were great, followed by solist Tara Jackson. The Galloways, Earl in his hole(y) blue jeans and shoes you could not describe, Then came Kirk Talley and Southern Sound Quartet closed the Monday night session.
Tuesday: The Gardners opened up the program, followed by Michael Jon, then came Palmetto State. Woody Beaty, Kary's Dad was filling in that night in the baritone position. It was GREAT hearing Woody sing with Palmetto State. Yes, he is still traveling with Jerry & Jan Goff and Brent is still singing with Palmetto State. The Crabb Revival followed and Tribute Quartet closed the evening. Their new tenor is also great. Has a mavrelous voice.
Wednesday: Three Bridges opened up. Had late lunch with these guys before the concert. They sould better each time I hear them, Mike and Kelly Bowling followed Three Bridges, then Aaron & Amanda Crabb. HisSong closed the evening.
Wish we could have stayed for Thursday and Friday night, but had to get back home.

If you want an excellent outstanding week of Southern Gospel Gospel Music next years dates are July 27 - August 1. We are already planning to attend.

BTW Santa: Got a large box of goodies and cinnamon rolls from GIMom. We had cinnamon rolls each night after the concert for a bedtime snack.

Hubby and I made a little trip over to Anniston, AL for the Saturday night concert of Mark Tramell Trio's Homecoming.

First up was JAY PARRACK, the new Minister of Music at Hill Crest Baptist Church (Mark's home church). He is a riot! He talked--and laughed---with Mark for a few minutes and then introduced The Perrys.

The Perry's had a good set, during which they honored their departing pianist, Matthew Holt. Matthew played a dynamite solo, When They Ring Those Golden Bells, in tribute to his hero, Anthony Burger. By the time he was finished, he had almost everyone in tears, including our own DeeAnn who was on the front row just in front of the keyboard. When Matthew stood to bow, he broke down. Which turned into a hug fest between him and Tracy Stuffle. Very moving stuff! Lib had discretely left the stage and had sat on the side doing her share of boo-hooing. Very touching scene, with Tracy sharing that Matthew had been....and will continue to be.... one of their family.

Then Mark Trammel Trio came on and did an outstanding job. They gave a tribute to their long-time bus driver and that was really neat. Eric "pestered" Mark until they did a fast song that Mark said 'didn't belong in a Baptist Church" and Eric said was on the "edge" of Southern Gospel music. I don't know the name of the song, but I'm sure "Glory" is in the title. It was a fast song, but as far as I am concerned, it was smack-dab in the middle of today's Southern Gospel. And the audience LOVED it, demanding that it be sung a second time. And the audience stood during the entire 2nd rendition! Loved it!

We enjoyed the concert, but we made the mistake of sitting too close to one of the speakers and just about got blasted out! Hopefully, DeeAnn will be on the forums soon and can tell us more about what happened after intermission. (And, no one tell Dinana, but I couldn't get my camera to work, so I didn't get pix. Sorry!)

I'm sure I didn't read GVfan's post correctly above. Surely she's joking about not getting any pictures. . . . .

I got a few pictures this afternoon at two different concerts. From my avatar, I guess you can tell that I saw The Old Paths! They were wonderful, of course. And then I saw The Chuck Wagon Gang. They were also wonderful. I'll write more tomorrow.

Hey Robert...THANKS for the great report of the Fan Festival. How was the attendance on the nights you were there? We were FULL on Friday. Talk a little bit about our Fri nite stand over in The Prophets thread. Gonna blog about it at my blog site, a little later tonite.
Also, How did HisSong do? I really enjoyed them and the Dove Brothers at Fan Fest, last year.

Could have had a few more people. THis was the first year for a Monday night affair. That could have had something to do with attendance and as usual the first part of the week is slow. I would guess about 3/4 house full all three nights if not more. HisSong was great. Those boys have always been good.

Ok, I just got home, we stayed for last night and the service this morning at Mark's home church! Man, if I lived within driving distance of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Anniston, I'd be there in a heart beat!!! They know how to have church.

Donna's update was good but the real crying started as they hit the stage for me, I looked at Tracy, he looked at me and we both welled up. Actually it started when Matt and I hugged before the concert. Then Joe told me that the night before he had cried like crazy when Matt did the special. Matt is a very special young man and he will be greatly missed! I will love and support the Perrys always but a part of my heart left with Matt! And it did Libbi and Tracy's too. When he started the special and they did the picture tribute to Anthony at the same time, it brought to mind what I had told Matt before the concert - 'as illogical as it sounds, it's like losing Anthony all over again'. Joe, Nick, Libbi, Tracy, Matt, as well as MTT and family members and many friends and fans were in tears as Matt finished his solo.

The song MTT did that brought the house down was 'Safe On The Glory Side', for those who have said their music is 'safe', ministry only, lacking 'punch', this song is just for you. Eric doing his own version of bluegrass joined by Dustin and Mark on harmony is a song that will ignite any concert! They had to do it twice on Saturday night and the pastor had them do it again for the morning service. It had everyone in the place clapping and on their feet! The new project has some of the best songwriters in the business contributing - Dianne Wilkerson, Kyla Rowland and Rodney Griffin each have multiple contributions. No matter what you taste, there will be something there for you.

The second half Libbi had Matt do a second solo 'Great Is Thy Faithfulness'. I was careful not to look at Joe or Tracy during this song, I'd cried enough for one night.

Oh, MTT did something that I thought was awesome!!!! They did a special tribute to Walter, their bus driver/product man. Walter is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and it was a touching photo tribute backed by a song from their new project 'If Only for a Few'.

One of the funniest things that happened last night was while MTT was singing 'Safe on the Glory Side' . Joe came running across the stage and messed up Mark's hair, later he got Eric and Dustin as well but Steve Hurst - man I didn't know he could move that fast- managed to evade Joe's hair tussling!

I actually took notes of all the songs and the order but it's in the car and I'm too tired to go get it but MTT and the Perrys ended up with 'I Wish I Coulda Been There' together- it was a lot of fun and the perfect ending to a night of tears and laughter and blessings beyond compare!

Oh, and it was great to see Donna and meet cinwood and the lurker to stopped to ask if I was DeeAnn but never told me her name!

Thanks again....Robert. There was some talk that maybe gas prices had attendance slightly down early in the week, compared to last year. Might have had something to do with neither the Dove Brothers or the Kingsmen being there this year. Last year they packed it out on Wednesday night with those 2 plus the Anchormen. Last year, we were full on Thursday when we sang behind Mercy's Mark and Minick & Friends. This year we were full with the IMPERIALS singing before us and BLACKWOOD GOSPEL Qt behind us. I know I am biased, but seems to me that there are still a lot of folks that prefer 4pt harmony. All the afore mentioned groups were and are solid at the bass position.
Just a thought. No harm meant.

Can you believe that DeeAnn would post in here while we are having a converstaion? I'll have to read her post to see if she said anything important. I'm sure she had a great time in Aniston.
