Ok, I just got home, we stayed for last night and the service this morning at Mark's home church! Man, if I lived within driving distance of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Anniston, I'd be there in a heart beat!!! They know how to have church.

Donna's update was good but the real crying started as they hit the stage for me, I looked at Tracy, he looked at me and we both welled up. Actually it started when Matt and I hugged before the concert. Then Joe told me that the night before he had cried like crazy when Matt did the special. Matt is a very special young man and he will be greatly missed! I will love and support the Perrys always but a part of my heart left with Matt! And it did Libbi and Tracy's too. When he started the special and they did the picture tribute to Anthony at the same time, it brought to mind what I had told Matt before the concert - 'as illogical as it sounds, it's like losing Anthony all over again'. Joe, Nick, Libbi, Tracy, Matt, as well as MTT and family members and many friends and fans were in tears as Matt finished his solo.

The song MTT did that brought the house down was 'Safe On The Glory Side', for those who have said their music is 'safe', ministry only, lacking 'punch', this song is just for you. Eric doing his own version of bluegrass joined by Dustin and Mark on harmony is a song that will ignite any concert! They had to do it twice on Saturday night and the pastor had them do it again for the morning service. It had everyone in the place clapping and on their feet! The new project has some of the best songwriters in the business contributing - Dianne Wilkerson, Kyla Rowland and Rodney Griffin each have multiple contributions. No matter what you taste, there will be something there for you.

The second half Libbi had Matt do a second solo 'Great Is Thy Faithfulness'. I was careful not to look at Joe or Tracy during this song, I'd cried enough for one night.

Oh, MTT did something that I thought was awesome!!!! They did a special tribute to Walter, their bus driver/product man. Walter is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and it was a touching photo tribute backed by a song from their new project 'If Only for a Few'.

One of the funniest things that happened last night was while MTT was singing 'Safe on the Glory Side' . Joe came running across the stage and messed up Mark's hair, later he got Eric and Dustin as well but Steve Hurst - man I didn't know he could move that fast- managed to evade Joe's hair tussling!

I actually took notes of all the songs and the order but it's in the car and I'm too tired to go get it but MTT and the Perrys ended up with 'I Wish I Coulda Been There' together- it was a lot of fun and the perfect ending to a night of tears and laughter and blessings beyond compare!

Oh, and it was great to see Donna and meet cinwood and the lurker to stopped to ask if I was DeeAnn but never told me her name!

Great review!

What a weekend!!! It was great meeting DeeAnn, Alicia and Erin at the MTT Homecoming (thanks again, Alicia, for helping me get my CD signed!). I would have loved to meet GVfan, but I didn't know she was there...

I was able to be there Friday and Saturday nights as well as Sunday morning. MTT was great, as usual. Their new CD is fabulous! It was my first time seeing the Whisenants and the Perrys live. I have loved the music of both of these groups for a long time but after seeing them ministering both on and off stage, I would have to call myself a superfan.

Both Friday & Saturday night Mark got Jay on stage to have a "highest note competition" with Eric on "Glory Road". It brought the house down both times! These two guys are the greatest tenors (I'm a teeny bit partial to my choir director, tho)!

Mark brought a wonderful message yesterday morning on being blessed and happy; he's so right: it's a choice Christians make, whether to be happy in the Lord or not, no matter what's happening around us.

I can't wait for next year!

Ok, I put a fairly long comment earlier but I want to go back and give a little more detail and hit some highlights I may have missed. After some good natured kidding around by Jay Parrack, he brought on the Perrys. They opened with 'Gentle Shepard' featuring Tracy, followed by 'I Know It Was the Blood'. Up next was 'Look No Further' and 'The Potter Knows the Clay'. Going back a bit the next song was 'I Rest My Case'. Next was the moment I was dreading, as Tracy began the introductions starting with Matt, the real tears began to flow, up until this point I had fought them back for the post part. Tracy mentioned how Matt played for Anthony's induction into the Hall of Fame and asked him to play "When They Ring Those Golden Bells". As he played the photo tribute to Matt's hero, Anthony began to show on the screens, I don't know how many other folks were in tears, I just know that my heart melted and I looked to see Joe and Tracy frantically wiping tears. As Matt finished the song and stood with his hand raised to heaven, he caught a glance at Joe with tears flowing, then he turned to see Tracy's tears, the fell into Tracy's arms as they cried for a moment. Tracy shared how Matt was like a son to them and they wished the best for him in this move. The love between each member was plain to see. A quick glance told me that Nick and Libbi had also been crying as was most of the audience. Seldom to we see the last concert by a member handled with this much class.

After completing the introductions, complete with Libbi being his 'pack of sugar - sweet & low -Tracy then talked about the battles Christians today and the Christians they had met that were ready to give up. This led into 'Holy Shore'. The Perrys used video a lot during the set and did it beautifuly.

MTT was up next opening with 'I Know That I Know' followed by 'What Good Would a Crown Do' from their new project. Moving quickly into ''You Can't Hold Back the Flood, then they did their tribute to Walter and Mary Bohannan, their bus driver/product man. The photo tribute showing many pictures from Walter & Betty's years with the Gadsden Gospelaires as another cut from the new project, 'For Only Just a Few' played. Mark then called the families up, including Nick & his fiance Jessica. After they introduced everyone and Mark got Eric's little girl Carlye to recite the pledge of alliengance, the group sang 'Something about that Name'. Steve Hurst who was with them for this special time, took it from that song into 'He Walks With Me'.Next was 'Called In, Called Up, Called Out' also from the new project.

Eric had been 'trying' to get Mark to do 'the song' and Mark kept saying 'no, it doesn't belong at church, I only recorded it to humor you guys' and similar comments and of course the crowd began to get behind Eric saying 'sing it!' Finally Mark relented and said they were going to do their bluegrass number, cause Greater Vision had one, Triumphant had one, he thought Legacy Five had done one and probably even EH & SS had one( Eric did a couple of Ernie 'steps' at that point). From the first note you new this was something very different from anything that MTT had previously recorded and the crowd loved it!!! Now I'm a big fan of MTT, Once Upon A Cross is one of the most powerful songs I've ever heard and I love it. But 'Safe On the Glory Side' is guaranteed to get any one there tapping their feet and clapping their hands, it is a happy song that sings about our future with a great beat and magnificient delivery! As they finished the song, the crowd was SCREAMING for more! Mark again said 'no, this is a BAPTIST church!' Then his pastor said 'SING IT AGAIN!' Mark replied with a look of horror 'you've corrupted my pastor!' But they sang it again. This time everyone was on their feet. Now I have to admit, I was having such a good time I didn't note whether Joseph's first 'run' across the auditorium to mess up Mark's hair was on the first or second time they sang but on the second round he circled back through and Dustin and Eric's. He chased Steve - that old guy can RUN!! but never caught him. MTT closed out the first half with 'Loving the Lamb' a serious song with a powerful message.

After intermission the Perrys did He Forgot, I Wouldn't Take Nothin, and Living In Canaan. As Tracy prepared to introduce their last song, Libbi stepped up and had Matt play one more instrumental "Great Is Thy Faithfulness'. 'You can hear the words in the notes he plays' was her introduction for it. Again there were tears as he played with all his heart. They closed out with 'Hide me Again'.

Nick asked Jay who served as the MC for the night to let him introduce MTT. Nick thanked everyone for their love and support of their family. He talked about the first year and the crowd there, he mentioned not being there last year because his dad didn't book them (Tracy reminded him his dad wouldn't hire him either!) and seeing the crowd this year and how blessed they were.

MTT opened up with Master Builder and it was great, especially when Tracy added the bass notes in the chorus much to everyone's surprise. Mark then brought up Jay for a little tenor competition on Glory Road. The crowd loved that!

The cconcert ended with both groups on stage singing 'I Wish I Coulda Been There' and it was great to see their interaction. I'd go see this combo anywhere.

On Sunday Morning, the service started with the Hillcrest Baptist Church choir - Jay Parrack is an awesome music director with a huge sense of humor! Mark and the guys got up and did a couple of numbers ending with the choir backing them up on Once Upon a Cross. WOW!!!!!!

Mark brought the message and if you have never heard him preach make a point to do so if you get a chance. He can ever more preach. His message on Psalms 37 truly brought out points I'd never thought of. One of those was the choice to BE happy, not just about being happy.

This weekend is hard to describe, it was awesome, it was a blessing, it was sad, it was happy, it filled with fun and laughter, it was filled with parting and the pain that brings. But most importantly it was filled with the Spirit of the Lord who blessed us and gave us so much to be thankful for!!

Sorry for the late post; but I attended the EH&SSQ concert Thursday, July 24th at Raytown, MO.

These guys are WONDERFUL. They are so kind and friendly, always willing to take a picture with you, or sign an autograph, or even share a hug. It's always so special when they remember your face (especially after attending only 4 concerts over the last 2 years).

They did songs from their Get Away Jordan album, the Together project w/ the GVB, their current CD Influenced, and their upcoming project Dream On. I hadn't heard the Influence CD prior to the concert; but WOW. I knew I had to have it after the concert was over. The songs were great. Also hearing the songs from the Dream On project, October (release date) can't come fast enough.

The concert was great. The energy of the guys, their special bond with each other, the wonderful songs, and special ministry Ernie provided made for a concert well worth attending.

Was in Rome, GA last night (7/31) to see Hoppers and Squire Parsons. The concert opened early with The Davis Trio from Rome. They are a great local family group. Dad and two sons. Sing very goood. Next Squire came on and sang several solos. Toward the end of the set he brought in three other guys (one was his son who has been with him for some time) the others were all new and filling in. He has lost the tenor singer Mike Torrance. A surprise was Greg Fox. He came in and help on a couple of Kingsmen songs, one being The Old Ship of Zion. The Hoppers was up. Started out great then the lights went out. They kept on singing, sound system wasn't affected. There were a few lights in the balcony still on and they were able to get a couple of spot lights on for them to sing. When Claude was introducing Connie, he said she wanted to go someplace she had never been to eat, Claude said let's go to the kitchen. Well that brighten things up, at that very momemt when Claude said let's go to the kitchen, every light in the building came back on.
All in all it was a great evening and concert. Hoppers were taping a live cd and had selected Rome as part of the cd. It will be entltled Live Across Americia. They have selected different cities to record in as they travel.

Bobby, it's a good thing Dinana wasn't recording it. She won't let you clap or make noise when you sit next to her!
(but then, everyone loves her video clips, so I guess it's worth it, huh??)

Do you know which songs from last night's performance will be included on the new CD. I know they are using (8) different cities to record various songs. They are actually recording tonight in Marion NC at the Greenes Gospel Singing Jubilee.

They did not say which songs would be used. I guess they will be selecting the best from the eight cities. I'm sure they are singing some of the same songs at different tapings. It will be a 2 cd set and they are taking pre-orders at their concerts. Being two 2cds mean 20-24 songs on the cds.

I had been wondering that. I was under the impression it would primarily be a CD, but wasn't sure if they'd also do a DVD.

What did you think of the new songs they did? Were there any which you think were really good?

No mention was made of doing a DVD. I like the new songs, don't remember the titles (I'm an old geezer), don't write it down like Dinana does. They did a lot of the old favorites also last night. I only remember about three new songs, I could be wrong, might have been more.

About a week ago my son took me to a dinner concert with Legacy 5 at the Hartville Kitchen in Hartville, OH as a Birthday/Fathers' Day present. It was a great evening. After a good meal L5 did their usual outstanding performance. The small, intimate setting (as opposed to a large auditorium) made it even more special. My only regret was that I forgot my camera. The concert ended with an audience sing-along followed by Scott Fowler's heart-felt prayer of Thanksgiving & Praise. There was truly a Sweet Spirit in that place.

After leaving Morristown we drove over to the Mull concert. Of course this was on our way home. Got there at intermission which I expected us to do. Saw Dee Ann and the baby. Baby was fast asleep. Missed Mike and Cindy. Saw each group sing 2 songs each. As a matter of fact Talley Trio had Crist family come back out and sing "Testify" with them. And had their bass singer singer a song with them.
More later on this also.

Had a great evening at the Georgia Mountain Center last night. Called Out Quartet, Inspirations, Diplomats, Mark Trammell Trio, Stanley Pierce, Karen Peck & New River. Stanley had his former members of Eastern Bound sing a couple of songs. It was the St. Judes Childrens Hopsital Research Benefit Singing. They raised of $23,000.00. This was the largest amount that they had raised in the 10 years that they have been doing it. That figure probably hit $25,000.00 before the night ended. The Mountain Center was almost full, only a few seats left in the balcony corners. It was a great evening and each group did at least a 45 minute set. Diplomats probably had most crowd response. Danny Jones, emcee had Rita sing one additional song at their close. Rita was in tears when she sang God Walks The Dark Hills.

Santa, I have been trying to figure out how to put last night's experience into words! It was very, very special. Clearly, Gerald, Rodney and the whole group put a lot of time and effort into details to make "the last time" a memorable one for Jason and for all those that were there that love Jason so much.

("The last time" is a phrase that the guys have been using on Jason the last few weeks..... this is the last time you'll sing with us in Canada, this is the last time you'll ever see this stop sign, this is the last time you'll eat pizza at this restaurant, this is the last time...... You get the idea. I guess it was just a light-hearted way to let everyone get used to the idea that Jason was leaving.)

Because the sanctuary of their home church is under renovation, the farewell concert was held in the Fellowship Hall. It had a much cozier atmosphere and it seemed just right. When people entered the Hall, they were asked to check a list indicating the state they are from. Gerald said that people were here from 20 states! Quite a tribute to a young man who has brought so many blessings to so many people!

Obviously , everyone knew why we were in Morristown, but none of us really knew what to expect. The defining moment of the evening for me was when Gerald introduced a song that Rodney had written especially with Jason in mind about a year ago, long before even Jason knew he would be leaving GV. The song was You Can, and if anyone has seen Jason do this song live in concert, you will know that the song is truly "Jason's song." Well, by the second note Jason sang, we all knew he'd never get throught it..and he didn't. Of course the track kept playing, but Jason broke down and just couldn't sing. It took very little time for the audience to rise and give Jason a very powerful standing ovation that seemed to last forever. When we sat, Jason just talked to us from his heart. It was wonderful. And then when he had composed himself, instead of letting Jacob restart the track, Jason asked that just STAN WHITMIRE play for him. Beautiful! And every single word of the song was just perfect.

Gerald said that as soon as STAN got the word that Jason was leaving, he contacted him to get a date so that he could be sure to be there. I'm so glad he was there. It is always great to hear Stan play and we could hear him better than usual with the acoustics in the Fellowship Hall.

Special memories and comments were interspersed throughout the 3-hour concert. Gerald had asked Jason if he wanted a "sappy" video to be commissioned for the occasion and Jason had responsed NO! So, of course, Gerald had one put together! It was teriffic, showing pictures and video throughout the 13 years Jason has been with GV. I'm sure Dinana got it on video (I'm not sure how good it will be) and maybe if it is good, Gerald will allow Dinana to post it for you. Close to the end of the program, Ben and Avery (Gerald's sons) came down the center aisle with an incredibly gawdy 3-foot high trophy for Jason! It brought down the house! When Jason remarked about how ugly it was, Gerald and Rodney "high fived" with each other.

Close to the end, Gerald talked to Jason about the difficulties that he will probably face in his new ministry and then he sang "Til the Storm Passes By" for him. Gerald asked Jason to pay special attention to every word and let the song be an encouragement to him as he moves forward. Absolutely incredible, and of course, the audience was on its feet before the final note was finished.

Gerald let Jacob sing "Little Is Much" and he did an awesome job. When he came onto the stage, Jason handed him his mic and after he was finished, Jason gave him a big hug. At least for me, this really helps me accept the new kid (I think Gerald--already picking on him--called him a "runt") as Jason's successor. Highly emotional, but very NEAT stuff!

At the very end, GV sang Jason's "signature" song, God Wants to Hear You Sing. The perfect ending!

I was very glad to see Santa and Mrs. C and Melvin Klaudt (clout) at the concert. (During one of Jason's boo-hoos, Mr. Klaudt, who was sitting on the front row, got up and handed Jason his handkerchief. Very touching. And someone remarked (can't remember if it was Gerald or Jason) that Mr. Klaudt looks more like Jason's grandpa than his real grandpa!

And... I met a lady that I have seen in at least two GV videos. I remember her because she has such a beautifuil smile and always looks so happy to be at a GV concert. Her name is Nita Sinn and she is from "up north" somewhere (Chicago or Detroit or somewhere...just too much excitement for me to remember all the details). This is just one example of the lengths that so many people made to be at Jason's "last time."

The evening was filled with emotion, with jokes, with happy memories and with plenty of opportunities for the guys to say what was on their hearts. And although we will all miss Jason greatly, this final concert allowed us fans to be able to move on when Jason does, while allowing him to see just how much he is loved and respected.

Wish ya'll could have been there!!!!

Great write-up, Donna Lou! We all enjoyed the concert so much. Everyone that was there came because they love Jason and wanted to wish him well on this new leg of his journey. I was really surprised the program was as long as it was without an intermission at all. I had carried over 7 Gigabytes of memory cards to capture videos of the event (my digital camera is a real memory hog in video mode) but it wasn't enough! I will be working on editing and getting permission to post a lot of the video, but for now, I hope you'll enjoy this one with Jacob Kitson.
