I just dont think they would be very good for me personally, since I seem to have trouble with low blood sugar. If I not eat a meal I do not do so well (headaches, dizziness, moodiness, etc.) But the mentor person said that heachaches are normal and that it would be fine. But I dont know about everyone else, but I cannot function when I am in pain and feel ill.

Bookaholic -> RE: A New Group (12/20/2006 12:53:50 PM)

Hmm headaches are fine??? Obviously this diet is not suited to people with low blood sugar. You can't put yourself at risk just to lose weight. I would check into other options if I were you.

You mean the eating program with different plans for different days?

I dont think they look un-healthy, just different.

quote:

Each week consists of:

--two half days (three meals with the portions divided in half)

--two liquid days (one regular solid meal and liquids throughout the rest of the day)

--two normal days (without overeating)

--and one fast day, where we only drink water for 24 hours. (This may be from dinner the evening before to a light meal the evening of the fast)

If they only let you drink water during the fast, then it could be bad, but you can have V8, fruit juice, soup, etc...

I was skeptical about the fast day as well. I will talk to my husband about this. I'm not sure he will go for it. He is not big on diet plans.

If you go HERE there is a second eating plan. The other thing you could consider outside of this diet, is eating your foods in a different order. My Dad and Sister are diabetics, but they dont need insulin, and I tend to be borderline insulin resistant so we eat our foods in this order- veggies or salad, meat, and then the carbs. It works because by the time you get to the carbs, you really arnt that hungry anymore. I went from eating a whole potato, to eating just a couple bites and Ive dropped almost 10lbs by doing that, and working out.

I'm really grateful for the support. I'm really surprised that it has grown so much already. I'm excited that I have sisters to do this with.

Today has been OK. I am having trouble during the lunch time because I have food at home that I need to finish (because I can't afford to go buy all new groceries when I have perfectly edible food at home) and then I'll be able to stay w/in my points better. I go to my first meeting on Saturday morning, and I 'm really excited about it. I've also been drinking a LOT of water today. No caffeine at all today so far. No headache yet!

Today is going to be a GREAT day!

Yea!! I always like to hear those words.

Two more hours and I get to go back to the gym!

GraduateMom -> RE: A New Group (12/20/2006 2:37:02 PM)

Hello ladies, I'm joining y'all as well. I want to concentrate on developing healthier choices in eating and exercise. I need to lose 100+ pounds.

Today I’m really up about the prospect because I had to run an errand for my boss this morning and usually I would have gone by Starbucks and gotten a large hot chocolate and a muffin. So I gave myself permission to get tea and a muffin provided I parked in the parking garage at my office and walked the block to get it. So as much as I like Starbucks, I decided walking in the rain was not what I wanted to do today.

I think I might start a savings can at home for the money I save on not buying impulse food and using the money for a trip.

That is a good idea! [:D][:D]

nyst8ofmind -> RE: Weight Loss Support Group (12/20/2006 3:21:16 PM)

Hey Ladies, I'd love to be part of the group.

My story: Over the past year I've lost 50lbs/32 inches .... may seem like it took a long time; however, I did it with a change in my eating and regular exercise (4x per week), and considering that I'm fabulously 40something I think that was pretty good.

I still need to lose about 25-30lbs more to bring my BMI # out the the "obese" category.

It's pretty tough now through the holidays and I'm going through a very pain separation, but PTL I've been standing firm and have not gotten into any emotional eating. Fallen off a bit with my work outs but trying to correct that too.

Looking forward to hearing all the praise report. Here's to OUR success![sm=dance.gif]

coolfamily6 -> RE: Weight Loss Support Group (12/20/2006 4:11:52 PM)

Erin,
I tried fasting for prayer when my friend was dying because people told me that even though I had blood sugar issues it would be ok because the prayer would sustain me. I ended up with a really bad headache and so sick to my stomach that I cannot even describe it. I felt like I was horrible because I could not fast for my friend to receive new lungs. Anyway, my pastor assured me that God was looking at my heart and not what I was eating. If I ever try it again, it will be fasting by giving up comfort foods like carbs, cookies & iced coffee not everything. That said, with your issues I would not recommend you fast.

Ladies, the best diet is one that will help us change the eating patterns that brought on the weight gain. For me it is comfort foods ie carbs and sweets. It may be something totally different for each of us. Identify why you are gaining then make a change.

Water - drink minimum 8 8oz glasses every day
Exercise - get 20 minutes of some kind of aerobic exercise at least 3 days a week
Food - make good choices load up on fruits, veggies and choose correct portions of protein and carbs.

I agree with this. This is what I am currently doing. I have cut down considerably on my portions and cutting out the fatty foods especially the fried foods.

My muscles are not too sore today. I think my body is finally starting to adjust to the work out sessions. Next week they are open only for two days, I am going to have to be extra good with my eating! [&:][&:]

coolfamily6 -> RE: Weight Loss Support Group (12/21/2006 9:33:24 AM)

I hate yogart! I need the dairy but only have whole milk in the house so I am forcing down the yogart. [&:]

Bookaholic -> RE: Weight Loss Support Group (12/21/2006 9:36:19 AM)

LOL Cool...have you tried Dannon's La Creme yogurt? It doesn't taste as strong as normal yogurt.

mmmm, I love yogart. I just gained the taste for it this past year. That is what I have for breakfast every day. Granola, a bannana and yogart.

coolfamily6 -> RE: Weight Loss Support Group (12/21/2006 12:17:02 PM)

I have tried almost every yogart but I trying to eat it even though I do not enjoy the flavor. I am trying to stick to the fat free no sugar kind which just makes it a bit worse...

coolfamily6 -> RE: A New Group (12/21/2006 12:19:02 PM)

I actually managed to get in 15 minutes of exercise last night. I am going to try again today to do an hour of videos.

dustinsdreamer -> RE: A New Group (12/21/2006 12:34:43 PM)

I enjoy yogurt. Have any of you tried the Yoplait Whips? It's not lite or anything, but it tastes good. [:D]

Dannon's La Creme is good too, so I'll second that kind to try.

That is the truth. My problem is comfort food too. I love sweets, and I'm addicted to sugar.

One of my biggest problems is lack of patience. I don't see results fast enough so I tend to quit and fall back into old habits. I know that eating healthy foods and drinking more water is good for me and I will feel better, but in the past that hasn't been enough to keep me going. [&o]

But on a brighter note, today is grocery shopping day and I have healthy foods on the list! We don't buy lots of junk anyway, like cookies or chips. But, I am excited about making healthier choices with the foods we do buy like cereals.

I am also going to begin a food journal. That is a great idea. It will give me an idea of what exactly I'm putting into my body. I tend to "forget" some things that I've eaten and if I make myself write it down it will be a better reminder.

GraduateMom -> RE: A New Group (12/21/2006 3:26:27 PM)

Well I blew it at lunch, my boss took me out to a fancy restaurant for Christmas and I ate WAY too much [:o], at least for dessert I had strawberries, unfortunately they had chocolate on them. [&:] But on the good side, I will probably either not want anything for dinner or I'll have a slim fast. One good thing is that since I indulged today, I probably won't have any cravings for the next few days and it will be just my husband and I this weekend so I won't be baking.

Also, we did walk a block to lunch.

dustinsdreamer -> RE: A New Group (12/21/2006 5:56:26 PM)

Well, I'm right there with you in the blew it at lunch club. [&:] Dh wanted Hardees...swiss cheese mushroom melt burger. I need say no more...

However...I have done about 45 minutes of walking today. Granted it was inside...but I was pushing a stroller with my boys in it. Does that count for anything extra? [;)]

I think I might try to head to our apartment complex's "gym" and work out tonight after I get the kiddos in bed. Yeah...strap on the 'ol iPod (that I got for free...wahoo!!!!) and get my heart pumpin!

GraduateMom -> RE: A New Group (12/21/2006 6:57:24 PM)

We have a treadmill at home, but unfortunately (or maybe I mean fortunately) [:D] I haven't been able to use it since I broke my foot in May. Most of the time my foot is fine now, but I still have problems walking down stairs, so I have to wait until that’s not a problem before I add the treadmill stress on it. So for now, I’m doing the parking far away to get a little more walking.

RepentanceIsRequired -> RE: A New Group (12/22/2006 9:12:17 AM)

Well no workout for me today. We are leaving for vacation after work, plus the gym is not open late on Fridays. This weekend will be tough but I believe I can do it!! I'm going to try to get some walking time in to help through the holidays.

coolfamily6 -> RE: A New Group (12/22/2006 9:46:38 AM)

Good morning ladies!

To those of you who had a bad day with eating out yesterday. Today, is a new day. Adjust what you did yesterday and do better today.

Good luck with exercising over the next few days it will be hard with all the festivities but anytime you can squeeze in is better than none.

mommy824 -> RE: A New Group (12/22/2006 10:06:48 AM)

I had a high point breakfast today. So, I'm going to try to keep it lighter at lunch if it's available. So far, though, the exercise hasn't been happening. But next week after Christmas it's ON! I'm going to shed away lbs however I can.

Anyway, for now, Merry Christmas. Enjoy your families! And don't forget to sing a little Happy Birthday song to Jesus!!!

GraduateMom -> RE: A New Group (12/22/2006 10:15:23 AM)

Good Morning y'all!

I had hot tea and a bagel with cream cheese at home this morning. The best part was I purposely did not go to Starbucks this morning! [sm=angel.gif] I feel so good about that and the rest of the day should be better since we had our office celebration yesterday!

Everyone have a wonderful Christmas and safe travel.

dustinsdreamer -> RE: A New Group (12/22/2006 10:46:02 AM)

Good morning!

Thanks for the encouragement coolfamily6! It's already been a better day just with breakfast. I had a bowl of cereal...the Special K with berries. Yum! AND, unlike in the past, I didn't add any sugar to it!!! LOL.

I could write a book: "Confessions of the Sugar Addicted" ha

The Christmas season can be tough, but don't be too hard on yourselves. Just do what you can and enjoy your families.

Merry Christmas! [:D]
