Talking about bacon...but when I was checking calories, the bacon had fewer calories than pretty much any thing else....and I only have 1 or maybe 2 small slices. Plus I feel I need the protien. I was bad yesterday, not only did I have a big spaghetti lunch (the girl scouts were having a fundraiser). Hubby and I got a craving for pizza...but it was thin crust, and we got a small so there was less temptation to eat more than I should! But I am going back to the gym Tuesday, that should help. I used to do the class two days a week but I think I need to just do some cardio (running, elliptical, or something). I think I would be more results. Losing weight is so hard for me...I usually can get about 10 lbs off but I need to get at least 20....I plateau at 10...then it all comes back really really fast.

Chelle - how soon do you plan on starting the weight watchers? I ask, just because I have had to change my diet big time while nursing - in other words, there is a lot I have had to cut out of my diet, because of Akeelah's stomach. I don't think I could follow any type of diet plan right now. But hey, Akeelah is three weeks old and I have already lost 20 pounds thanks to the birth and nursing!!! I plan to start exercising on Monday, now that my body is healed from the pregnancy. I want to lose about 20 pounds, but I plan on starting out slow, just walking on the treadmill and then increasing from there. I'm hoping to get in about 20 minutes, 3 times a week in the beginning.

I joined the Lords Table tonight. It seems to biblically sound. I may not agree with all, but most of the content seems good. As far are the meals.......well I didn't like the liquid only days, because we I am able to go back to work, I will not be able to function on liquids alone. So, I opted for the growling stomach thing. That makes sense. Eat when you are hungry. I have alot to loose, and with God on my side..... I need lots of pray. Thanks to all

According, to Myfoodiary.com, I need 2300 calories a day to maintain my weight and produce an adequate amount of breastmilk for my 4 month old son. Now, to loose one pound a week and still maintain adequate breastmilk, I would need to reduce that by 500 calories to 1800. Another website that might be helpful for nursing moms and is totally free is babyfit.com. Myfooddiary.com is $9.00 for their monthly subscription.

Thanks to all Diane, I looked at that site but did not join, not only because I am diabetic, but also because I am really rebellious toward anyone who attempts to discipline me, other than G-d and because my eating habits are really undisciplined. I do know they have provision (although I don't know what kind) for diabetics. Please let us know what you think of it, as time goes by. One thing I would be interested in are whether they lean on one for consistantly deviating from their plan and discipline (for example, in not doing the liquid diet thang). Thank you!!!

Can I join you ladies? I have been overweight for all of my teen years and now into my twenties. It seemed like I could never make healthy eating choices and dealt with stress by eating. The weight gain was quick to come on and I know it won't be quick to come back off. I need to lose 50-75 lbs to get to what would be considered normal for my age and bone structure. I am single and enjoy cooking- so my challenge each evening is to cook healthfuly for one person. Because of low blood sugar, I always have something for breakfast and have several snacks during the day (either crackers, fruit or oatmeal/fruit bars). Because the noon meal is free at my work, I don't have a lot of say about what I eat there. However, I do want to try to watch portion size and cut out the desserts. I am hoping that if I will do a salad and then some type of protein for the evening meal- again watching portion size, I should be doing okay. My water intake is usually pretty good. Where I live, the air is very dry and so your body quickly tells you when you aren't drinking enough water. 64 oz is usually the very min that I can get away with- most of the time, I have to have more :) My main weakness is sodas and baking. I love to bake and then feel like I have to eat all that I bake. I also have challenges in exercising. While I am fairly active at work ( I am a teacher :) Try keeping up with kids all day), I am usually tired by the evenings and have challenges in forcing myself to go back out and walk. One thing that I have done to help is the "National Body Challenge" from Discovery Health. It is an 8 week program that is free that provides both reciepe ideas and exercise plans. I am hoping to be consistant with the exercise plan and then also walk several times a week. I am also going to try to use the reciepes for my evening meals to provide a balanced meal. Today hasn't been so good Breakfast- 2 slices of pumpkin bread and a bar Lunch- a small salad, and fried chicken (a friend took me out too a chicken place where they just bring you the food- you don't have a say in how it is cooked- it was really good though) Snack- popcorn ( it had some butter, but not too bad) Dinner- who knows yet- maybe I can do better then :) I am going to go for a walk now and do the strengthing exercies for today on the "Discovery Health" site. This next week will be challenging as I will be at a conference for work most of the week. The hotel does have a gym and hopefully we won't eat out too much at fast-food type places. It always seems easier at a real restaurant where there are more real food items. Thanks for the accountablity. Maybe I can really make some good choices this time around. Hope you have a great week, Beth

artemis, just a thought, but can you do non-areobic exercise? Pilates or something like that? I do something called body balance (body flow in the US) ~ it's gentle and doesn't affect my asthma (which isn't as bad as yours by the sound, but isn't fun).

I am overweight... obese by doctors standards. I recently decided to swallow my pride and try doing something about it. Can anyone help me figure out the best program for me? I want to lose about 75 pounds, but I would be happy if I lost 25 - 50. I have been considering gastric bypass or lapband, but I only want to take that route as a last option. I feel that if I can get started down the right path, I can encourage my husband to do the same.

I am pretty sure I am considered obese, too, Lindsey. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, they suggest not to count calories but carbs. These are a lot more easy for me to count. I also went to a class, where they taught proportion sizes. That was excellent. For me, it is not what I ate that kept me overweight but what I drank. I had no clue that i was actually not eating enough, but I was drinking so many sugar-drinks (at the time, Sobe green tea mainly). Is it possible you are overdoing it on one or two items, too? If you pinpoint those and drop them, it could make a major difference. I dropped all sugar-drinks and increased my food-intake. By doing this, I have SLOWLY lost . . . let me go weigh . . . if I remember correctly my beginning weight, 20 pounds on the dot, and that's after eight days of Chanukkah, when I ate some no-nos. Another thing that has helped my sweet tooth (someone mentioned wisdom teeth helping in this area, but apparently, my wisdom teeth are on strike) is that I found a wonderful spicy-sweet tea with no sugar or other sweetener added, yet it is sweet, sweet, sweet! The sweetness comes from the high concentration of cinnamon -- and cinnamon is like medicine to diabetics. I drink a lot of this tea, supplementing it with Bigelow's Constant Comment, when I don't want something as strong. When I drink Constant Comment (or eat/drink other things that require sweetener), I sweeten it with agave. Agave, found in health food stores, is recommended for diabetics as a sweetener, because it doesn't mess with the body like sugar does. It is like mild honey. It must be kept refrigerated, once opened. The dark agave can also be used for syrup. I love the stuff: it doesn't taste like nasty chemicals. I think, though, that each of us has to find their own diet-way -- the one that suits us. Consumer Reports, however, says that of all diet programs, Weight Watchers works best, has the most consistent result, and retains the most long-lasting result. Weight watchers, when I was in it in the '80s, drove me nuts.

ORIGINAL: Covaan_Meshuga I am pretty sure I am considered obese, too, Lindsey... Thanks, for the input! I'm not as big on sweets as I was a few years ago, but I still get a killer craving sometimes for something sweet. One of my MAIN problems is that I don't drink enough water... But I am trying to start drinking more. Plus, I work at McDonald's and that helps NONE that I eat that garbage! I tried something new tonight though. I got one of those snack wrap things, but I got it with grilled chicken instead of the chicken select strip, and I ate a Fruit & Yogurt parfait... and the only thing other than water that I've drank is a sprite for breakfast and a milk with my dinner. What are some of the KILLER foods that I need to look out for and avoid???
