It helps keep me accountable and they have forums for emotional support and advice. Others have stated they like Weight Watchers but I have never tried their program so I can't comment. You just need to figure out what works for you.

My sis is overweight to where she needs to lose it for her health's sake...she has diabetes, high bp, high blood sugar, arthritis, high cholesterol, and the bones in her feet have collapsed on each other. She'd gone to one of the centers, but she said the people made her uncomfortable for a few reasons. I've just never heard first-hand if their program works.

Happy New Year everyone! I have all of my Weight Watchers information out, yet again, and plan to start with the first thing I put in my mouth today. I have lost up to 50 lbs. on Weight Watchers in the past, but have gained it and an extra 30 lbs back since then (about 5 years ago) when I put the plan away and ignored anything I had learned from it. Because I can't afford to go to the meetings I keep track of everything on this site. It has been working well for me over the past few weeks. I also go to the Weight Watchers Community boards for added moral support and accountability. On to tracking my points... Best wishes for the New Year.

Anyone 100+ over weight? And have some trouble breathing when trying to exercise?? I've started riding the exercise bike, it's a little easier on my breathing, I think the cold air interferes with asthma problems I've already had most of my life. They were never very severe until I allowed myself to get so far over weight. for the past several weeks, hubby and I have been eating very moderatly. I have a piece of fruit or a slim fast in the morning. Either a light lunch or salad we have a normal dinner, and we are early eaters. If I snack at all, it's put in a bowl and once that is gone, it's gone. Or another salad in the evening. Cut out any and all pop except if I eat out. Then it's more a treat. More water, and even have those flavor packs to put in the water bottles. I'm feeling better, I can tell I've lost a little in inches, but the lbs havn't started dropping yet.

Yes, I have over 100 pounds to lose (about 115 or so). And yes, I have a lot of trouble breathing after a few minutes of exercise. I have been trying to work on my breathing by running up and down the stairs to my apartment. There are only 20 stairs, but a few reps of that a few times a day seems to be helping. I also use an exercise ball instead of a computer chair, it helps to naturally support the back while also strengthening the abdominal muscles. I love your idea of only drinking pop when out for dinner. I think I will need to try that one and substitute my usual can of pop with a glass of water. I did that with desserts and it helped to cut a lot of calories out of my weekly intake. Thanks for the tips!

Pop is my biggest addiction. The sugar in it alone has to help if it's cut out right? I LOVE Mountain dew, it was best of both worlds, the sugar AND the caffeine. lol But I've found something else, since i haven't been drinking it, when I do have some from the little bottles, i'm amazed at how it messes my stomach up now. Almost like my body is trying to help me out, lol I'm going to try the stairs thing, I have a set in the house, I might as well put them to use, and I never thought about sitting on the exercise ball... now I am gonna have to go get one. I also want to get a hoola hoop. If I can actually get one going, it's supposed to be a fun easy way to work alot of body muscles without really realizing it and might bring some of my flexability back that I've lost from sitting on my fanny, lol

I think I may join the First Place group at my church just for the weekly weigh-in and turning in my food diary. I did much better when I knew that someone was going to look at what I ate all week. If you are looking for some good recepies the First Place website had a lot of good ones which I used and my family loved them. I think I did ok over the holiday's as far as what I ate but very little on the exercise end. Today is a new day. Someone said on another thread that they are not making resolutions just goals. I encourage each of you to set a goal for the month of January. My goal is to be consistant in drinking my water and to add more low-fat dairy to my meal plan. As far as actual weight loss I will be happy with 2-3 pounds a week. Traci

Lindsey everyone is different but really you want to reduce the amount of processed foods that you eat. Whole foods as much as possible. South Beach Diet has some good ideas. WW does too I have heard that LA weight loss puts people on extremely low cal diets but then they are a franchise so maybe it depends on the branch that you visit. But if you have to pay for the frozen foods they are expensive - I would do Weight Watchers because they teach you how to eat real foods. I only have a few pounds left to lose (I lost over ten, gained two back, maybe) but I want to tone up too. I am only 4'11 and I already have lots of problems buying clothes. So 5 pounds on me makes a difference. I do good on exercising I just eat a lot of junk sometimes.

Hi everyone, I don't usually do resolutions or start things on January 1, but since it is Monday, I thought it would be a good time to start. My daughter is 3 1/2 weeks now, and my body feels back to normal so I'm ready to start exercising again. I thought I had about 20 pounds to lose until my sister told me that my mother's scale is 10 pounds less than what we actually weigh, so maybe I have 30 pounds to lose. But I have decided to stay away from numbers and just set a few goals. Here they are (for now): - to fit into my favourite pair of pre-pregnancy jeans (which thankfully had a little extra room pre-pregnancy) - to get my exercise times back up to 30 minutes of moderate exercise (I'm out of shape now) Once I get those done, I will set some more in terms of muscle and toning.

Lindsey - South Beach Diet is an excellent one, IMHO. It has a 2 week strict phase (and even if you only do that strict phase for 3 days you'll lose weight guaranteed). If you don't like eggs, you'll be in trouble though :) I used it to help me lose those last 10 pregnancy pounds. This is typical of what I ate..... Breakfast - eggs, turkey bacon (which actually tastes better than regular IMO), omelettes Lunch - chef salad, leftovers from supper Supper - mainly chicken (but you can pretty much have any meat), cucumber salad, peas, salad Snacks - cottage cheese, plain yogurt, cheese, jello There's actually way more variety in foods then you think, but I'm a pretty picky eater so I pretty much ate the same thing for awhile! You have to cut out carbs (except those found in veggies, etc) completely during the strict phase. I did find this very hard. But because there's an end date (like I say - even 3 days will see results!), it's bearable. This isn't a permanent diet change. By the end of the diet you can eat fairly normally, you just need to switch all carbs to whole wheat, and not go crazy on them. Trust me, any diet that made me never eat bread, would be doomed to failure! I love bread! It was written by a doctor (heart specialist I believe), and was intended as a healthy eating plan, not a weight loss plan - turns out to be both! Basically, eating like diabetics are supposed to is the healthiest way to eat. Even if the only change you made was to drink water instead of soda - you'd notice!! From their website ..... quote:
Following Phase 1 for two weeks kick-starts your weight loss. You'll eat normal-size portions of lean meat, fish, eggs, reduced-fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts, and plenty of vegetables. Snacks and desserts are part of the plan, as well. Next, you'll move on to Phase 2, where you'll learn to reintroduce the right carbs, such as whole grains and most fruits. Some indulgences are allowed. You should continue to lose weight on Phase 2 until you reach your goal. Once you've reached your goal weight, you'll move to Phase 3 (the maintenance phase), where you'll continue to make good eating choices. The plan will feel less like a diet and more like a lifestyle. For exercise I recommend Body for Life or something similar. You generally only do between 20 - 30 mins exercise per day. Overdoing it at the beginning usually backfires - if you drastically cut calories and drastically increase the amount you exercise, your body goes into starvation mode making it difficult to lose weight. I made that mistake after our 3rd baby. I was eating totally healthy (no dessert, etc) and exercising up to 2 hrs per day - and after 2 or 3 weeks, I had lost almost nothing!!! I switched to Body for Life (cutting back to about 30 mins per day) and within a couple of weeks I had lost 10 lbs. So, trust me - don't overdo it at the beginning!

I am seriously starting my weight loss today....I'm going to the gym after work to "sweat it out". I plan to do crunches regularly on the ball at home, along with a few free weights while watching tv. Plus eating healthier...but not stressing over stuff. For accountability... I weighed in at 154 this morning...my goal is 135. All my weight is right around my middle. Today for breakfast I had "lower sugar" apples and cinnamo oatmeal, 2 small pieces of bacon, and 1 glass of unsweetend apple juice. Lunch will be a salad, with leftover chicken strip, and tropical fruit cocktail (packed in juice not syrup). Dinner will be baked porkchops, rice or pasta, and a green veggie (maybe asparagus....) I packed fig newtons and beef jerky for my snacks today.

Hey guys! I'm so glad I found this thread. I couldn't think of this coming at a better time. I'm signing up at my local gym this morning...I figure if I make a pricey investment I will be way more likely to stick with exercising. I have the ball and weights at home, I just can't find the motivation to do it lately. My biggest problem is eating..Im italian and pasta is basically a daily food for me. Any suggestions on how to kick that habbit!? Its harder than you think!

Thank you to the ladies that prayed last night. Right after I posted, I went outside for a walk. It was only 20 minutes and a very slow walk at that due to the icy roads, but better than staying inside snacking. lol I appreciate your prayers! Today hasn't been bad. But I haven't eaten yet today. I was running late and forgot to grab breakfast and lunch out of the fridge. I drove today so I'll try to find something healthy somewhere nearby. Erin...sounds like good meal choices you've made for today. Meghan...how do you like the GoLean bars and cereal? I've seen them in the store and thought about trying them.
