If you love these boards, and love Brian Free and the guys as much as I do, this is your place to talk about them! I've been an avid supporter of them ever since the GC lineup of Jay Parrack and gang moved on, and they've only grown in popularity with both myself, and with many SG fans since then!
I was wondering how old Brian Free is, precisely. I thought he was close to 50, but maybe he's not that old. Anybody know?
Feel free to share the songs you like, why you like them, why you don't like them, whatever!

Note to Ps103: Could you add to the groups thread?
I liked "Live in New York City." That was still traditional enough for me. "It's So God" was rather progressive, but I do like the song "It's All About the Blood."

He got his job with Gold City when he was 18. That would make him 45, I think.

Wow! For 45 he is definitely the strongest tenor I have ever heard.
Daniel, "It's All About The Blood" is absolutely fabulous!
Other greats, "If It Takes A Valley," "Only By The Blood," "My Answer Is Yes," "It's Still My Father's World, "Long As I Got King Jesus," and "Greater Still."

I have grown to really like Brian Free & Assurance over the last year and half. It took their two most recent albums (Live In New York City/It's So God). Also, in 2006, I believe I saw them in concert at least a half dozen times, so that also helped. I have never been a big fan of tenor singing and since the group's tenor is such a large part of their sound, I believe that is what kept me away from really getting into their music. As long as they keep recording albums like their last two i'll keep listening.

Do you have a complete discography for BF&A? I have many of their projects, but I don't know if I have them all because I don't have a complete list.....
Here is what I have come up with:

Just curious, of how many groups do you own their complete discography?
Actually, if you were to ask me to name any group which I have their entire discography, I could barely name one. However, if you were to ask me of how many groups do I own their latest album, I could name an army.  I tend to buy the latest products from my favorite groups, but I am slowly accumalating the older stuff from these groups as well.
For instance, I have albums such as:
It's So God - BF&A
Good Good God - Kingsmen
Revival - Gold City
The Ride - Hoppers
Live In Music City - Legacy Five
Something's Happening - Mercy's Mark
Never The Same - Dove Bros
Graceland - Mike Bowling Group
Promises - Three Bridges
I tend to buy the new, record-label-release albums.

Of the groups you listed I also have the complete sets of Lordsong, Poet Voices and Tony Gore & Majesty. I am not certain about the Whisnants. I have several cassette tapes from the late '80s when Jeff's Mom/Dad were still in the group. I don't know if I would even know what their first album was.

Woohoo! Thanks for asking because I went looking for the CD case and found BF&A Live In New York City inside...been missing that one!
You are right...it's from 1995. It's from their trio days with Mike Lefevre and (help me out here...I've gone brain numb on who the other guy was).
If you can find it you should grab it!

There are a couple of others that were made with the Trio. BRIAN FREE & ASSURANCE, ASSURANCE, THINGS THAT LAST FOREVER. I'm not at home, so I'm not sure that's all.

How does that work? Do they just go in and learn/sing their new material all at once, or do they practice the material first? I've actually heard of some groups just walking into a studio, learning the material, and recording it.
