Hubby would like that carrier, Ryanne! I am actually planning to make him a cammo one, especially since we are having a little boy...it took much persuading to get the baby's room to be something other than cammo!!

I have a couple of friends who swear by their baby bjorns but only for the little babies..

I think that now that I've watched all the instructional videos on their site.. the Ergo baby carrier may be on my list of wanted carriers. geez.

Don't do it! They have some very, very cruddy business practices going on right now! I would suggest supporting one of the WAHM companies. (any of them, lol!)

I was thinking of getting an Ergo too. What is going on with them that is bad?

quote:

I’ve received several emails and have confirmed the information below and thought that I’d share what I’ve heard with you all so you will know what type of business practices Ergo is participating in lately.

The Ergo baby company has been targeting WAHM businesses in the US and not allowing them to sell the Ergo unless they sell a minimum amount per month. This, of itself is okay and a smart business move, however, the manner in which they are pulling the accounts is not okay.

Ergo is also targeting soft structured carrier (SSC) manufacturers to get them to stop making other SSC. They have a patent pending in the US http://portal.uspto.gov/external/portal/!ut/p/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_QjzKLN4gPMATJgFieAfqRqC LGpugijnABX4_83FT9IKBEpDlQxNDCRz8qJzU9MblSP1jfWz9A vyA3NDSi3NsRAHxEBJg!/delta/base64xml/L0lJSk03dWlDU1lKSi9vQXd3QUFNWWdBQ0VJUWhDRUVJaEZLQS EvNEZHZ2RZbktKMEZSb1hmckNIZGgvN18wXzE4TC8xNS9zYS5n ZXRCaWI!?selectedTab=detailstab&isSubmitted=isSubm itted&dosnum=10937193&public_selectedSearchOption= #7_0_18L

They are also now targeting WAHM companies overseas. When they are targeting these WAHM companies overseas, they are looking to collect damages from the distributors that have sold other competing SSCs. So, basically, they want the companies that are selling other SSCs to pay them money for each carrier that they have sold.

Personally, I find this behavior wrong on many levels. Ergo used (and still uses) many WAHM companies to get the name of their product out and now that it is becoming more mainstream and more popular, they are going after every company that makes and/or distributes anything similar so they can try to gain a monopoly. It just disgusts me that they are now trying to destroy the same companies that they used to make money for themselves

Anyhow, I thought I’d let you all know what is going on with Ergo so that way you can continue to decide if this is a company you want to support further. Also, if you are a manufacturer of an SSC or a distributor of SSC’s, you may want to seek legal advice just to be sure that you are protecting yourself.

There ya have it. Not a company I will ever buy from, or recommend.

I really like the Baby K'Tan since it's got 5-6 different positions for the baby and it's easy to nurse in it.

It was good for nursing and I still recommend them for that, but it doesn't, IMO, offer much support with my lard buns baby.

ROFL! Yes...Jael isn't that...it's still very comfortable to carry her in it when the weather is right. But it's so stinkin' hot here that she's in the stroller until it cools down!

I've got the peanut shell sling - it's nice, but I don't feel it fits quite right. He seems very squished, but at the same time hangs too low on me. I have a very small frame. Does anyone know what carriers/slings might work best for extra small people??

I like my ring sling since I can adjust it to me, and I have a wrap, but only used it a few times, but it definitely has a custom fit!

That's the problem I have had. I'm short, too, and the sling I had carried too low. Then the wrap was tolerable when he was little, but as he's gotten longer it's really uncomfortable for my short torso.
Sorry--no suggestions though! I'm just going to give up on trying to use anything. I really don't think it will work with a longer baby on my short frame.

I'm only 5'0" and Jael is very long (prob. about 2-2.5 feet now) and I can wear her very comfortably in the Baby K'Tan in the front carrying position.

I'm planning to get (okay have my MIL make) a baby K'tan. Just trying to figure out what size to make it. I'm petite (5'2") but still pretty good size on top.

Thanks Kim. I was unsure. The sizing top wise fell as a large, but it said if you are petite to go smaller.

I always say go a size smaller with the K'tan. I made mine in a size small, I'm 5'7 but only about a C cup on top. I made the one for Emily in "extra small" since they are stretchy.

You're welcome! The medium has served me well.

I doubt that....you just need to switch to another type of carry (like hip carry and use the wrap to help hold the weight instead of your own muscles to do it...or back carry.)

I like the baby k'tan, but it is so expensive. I'm afraid to get it in case it doesn't work for me either, but I need to do something b/c he wants to be held constantly... do any of you know the best place to get one for a decent price??

if it doesn't work for you then you can always sell it on ebay and recoup most if not all of your invested money. It is a good one, so people are willing to pay big bucks for it even on ebay.

Well, I've worn Gwen in my moby twice and LOVE it! I used the cradle hold both times because I think it's the easiest to get her in!! I'm confused though - when we get home from our walk and she's fast asleep and I'm a sweaty mess, do I just leave her in there until she wakes up or try to take her out without waking her?

Kim, did you work out what to do with little Gwen?

I was wondering, how much time do you think you spend babywearing each day? Do you do it mainly around the house or when you go out?

Isabel is in her Moby fast asleep.

Took two tries to get it just right but I think we got it.

She's also covered in bread crumbs from my PBJ sammich!!

What do you guys do if the baby starts to feel a little warm on you?

When Gabby was little we spent 3-4 hours a day wearing her, mostly around the house. Some days it would be more if I was out shopping. Now it's more like 1-2 hours a couple times a week while we are out doing errands.

Brandy, it depends what we are doing when she feels hot. If I'm out walking then I just leave her, usually she is asleep anyway. If she is awake and fussy about it, then I take her out. If she isn't fussy, then I leave her.

That sounds like a good plan.

She started to get restless and I wasn't sure if it was lack of pacifier or too warm. I unwrapped her, put her in her swing and she settled right back down into sleep.

Going to have Jeremy try her on later tonight :)

I found that the moby is really hot right now, so I went to walmart and found some pretty, woven, lightweight material, had them cut six yards of it, took it home and cut it lengthwise in half then sewed up the edges of one side of it...and voila, I have a light weight wrap that Justice doesn't sweat in!!!!

Sarah do you think a muslin would work for that?

I have a friend who has a sewing machine and I may be able to hack out the edges decently enough to brave it. And I think a muslin would be light enough? but would it be strong enough at the same time?

Man, girls, I just read this whole thread. There's a lot to read! It's been on my to-do list for awhile, but now it will be easier to keep up.
Because of ya'lls love for Moby wraps, I was telling my mom about them months ago. At my baby shower a couple of weeks ago, she gave me two that she made, from THIS website that was also posted earlier in this thread. One is a cream stretchy-knit material, the other is a brown stretchy knit material, but she also added a front panel of brown and turquoise silk on that one. Which, now that I'm looking into it more, is like the Moby D wrap.
Sarah, I tried following your instructions on how you wrap and I ended up laughing hysterically at myself. It totally did not work out. Then I saw where Tammy clarified the post, and I ended up getting it. Although it's still rather amusing with my belly. I'm sure it will be very different when I actually have a waist to wrap around again!
I think now I just need to go to the Moby website with all the pictures and start practicing.
