Here’s my report on the concert I went to on Saturday night in Bessemer, Alabama. It featured Karen Peck & New River, Reggie Saddler Family, and Garry Jones. A local group called The Crusaders opened the concert, but I was much too interested in what was coming up to give them much of my attention!! And a young man also played a piano solo, but I can’t remember what it was!! He was really good – and he is only 15!!! Then came Garry Jones on the keyboard!! He played a really nice arrangement of How Majestic Is Your Name. Then he played a lovely medley of When I Survey the Wondrous Cross and Jesus Paid It All. Then another of his signature pieces – Unclouded Day! Garry said he wanted to bring some of his Alabama friends out to sing a few songs and it got even more exciting. Chris West, Josh Feemster, and Brent Mitchell came out and joined Garry on I’m On the Battlefield (here’s the link to the video again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdipD4fGlXw ). That was always one of my favorites and they did a great job! Then Chris’s brother Craig (or maybe Creig – I’m not sure how he spells his name) joined them and Garry returned to the keyboard while the other four men sang I Bowed On My Knees – with Craig having the lead. It was incredible! The audience absolutely loved it!! (Here’s the link again to this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3iuREGtX8k ) They closed out their first portion of the program with Too Near Home. The Reggie Saddler Family came on next and I really enjoyed seeing them for the first time in concert (not including NQC). They have a wonderful family blend on everything they sang, which included Whiter Than Snow; I’ve Got Me a Home; One More Time Will Do It; Any Time, Any Place, Any Where; The Real Thing; and Winner Out Of a Sinner. Then Reggie did a little comedy routine that everyone enjoyed. Karen Peck & New River came on from different parts of the stage singing the chorus of Because He Lives a capella. It was very, very nice. Then they sang I Want to Know How It Feels, I’m Saved, Hold Me While I Cry, Gonna Get Up, Hey, and Dirt Road (dedicated to the family of Josh Feemster, whose dad passed away the previous week). Karen sang one verse of Amazing Grace (a capella) and then they sang Four Days Late. Then during the second part of the program, Garry played while the Alabama guys sang One Good Song (I don’t remember hearing that one before, but I thought they sounded remarkably like the Gaither Vocal Band on it) and Midnight Cry (link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23r4VauOGcg ). Garry started singing and playing the song No One Ever Cared for Me Like Jesus and then the rest of the guys joined him on the chorus. Very, very touching. Reggie’s family sang Start and Finish as well as Keep the Light On. KP&NR sang Last Night and Look What the Lord Has Done. Everyone joined on a couple of extra choruses of Look What the Lord Has Done and stayed out together for How Great Thou Art with daughter Ingra Saddler leading (that girl can SING!) and I’ll Fly Away with first Karen and then Brent leading. Actually, they even did a little encore with Brent leading out again on I’ll Fly Away!!! He does a fabulous job on that song!! What a great, great concert!!!
