On a completely secular and unrelated note...

Has anyone been watching the "Carrier" miniseries on PBS? It covers a 6 month tour on the Nimitz over about 5 episodes. Pretty neat... seems to get into the heart of things (not just "Top Gun" repackaged).

No, but I have spent the night on the Enterprise at Charleston, SC. These ships are simply amazing!

I helped commission (Jan. '75) and served 4 years aboard the nuclear powered cruiser USS South Carolina (CGN37), which was commissioned near the time the Nimitz went into service. The South Carolina, along with its sister ship the USS California (CGN36) went to sea a lot with the Nimitz while the fossil-fuel ships remained in port.

There were quite a few nuclear powered cruisers at one time, but Clinton's administration decommissioned them all and sold them for scrap metal.

Good Morning, HisFish (may I say David?) [:D]

I have a question if you don't mind. Specifically, where did you find the Spurgeon the quote? I love it, but I have been searching for it's inception and I've been unable to find it.
Could you help me?

Thank you

April, by all means call me David[:)]. As far as the spurgeon quote, i just googled "spurgeon quotes" lol.

Did you know that googling Spurgeon quotes, can be addictive?

I just spent more than an hour reading and I have now totally forgotten what I asked you in the first place.

IMA_CHRISTIAN -> RE: Reformed Theology Chat Thread (7/8/2008 12:31:54 PM)

I heard a piece of a sermon that got me thinking -

We say we know Jesus and serve Him and know everything about Him, etc., but ,, does Jesus know us?

This is based on Matthew 7: 23 "And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you..."

wow, just thinking about that verse makes me think, does God know me?? wow.

If He didn't know you, you probably wouldn't be asking the question, and you certainly would not be concerned with the answer.

So, ask away![:)]

bob97 -> RE: Reformed Theology Chat Thread (7/8/2008 1:52:07 PM)

I'm hoping He knows me...otherwise I sure am spending a lot of time talking to thin air.

Bob

PS...nope I just called home and things seem to be OK.[:D]

IMA_CHRISTIAN -> RE: Reformed Theology Chat Thread (7/8/2008 5:05:58 PM)

but wow just think about it... out of all the millions of aspects of the universe - and to know that - hey God knows me... yes me! little ol me! wow I mean its just something i just cant express here in words!!!

hmmm, it does say all our hairs are numbered,, you think that means when a hair falls out, God instantly knows the count went from 2,019 to 2,018? wow !!!

No -- that hints of openess theology [:)]

He already knows how many will fall out tomorrow and how many will will end up with when we die. For me that would be easy! Probably 0.

Has anyone listened to the latest Federal Vision debate?

DougHorton -> RE: Reformed Theology Chat Thread (7/8/2008 6:34:31 PM)

No. Is it worth listening to?

It's definately worth it. Jonathan Goundry, (Gene Cook's side-kick), does an excellent job defending traditional reformed theology. His opponent's arguments were painful to hear. It just didn't seem like the man was prepared for the debate.
