ORIGINAL: TheoJunkie On a completely secular and unrelated note... Has anyone been watching the "Carrier" miniseries on PBS? It covers a 6 month tour on the Nimitz over about 5 episodes. Pretty neat... seems to get into the heart of things (not just "Top Gun" repackaged). No, but I have spent the night on the Enterprise at Charleston, SC. These ships are simply amazing! I helped commission (Jan. '75) and served 4 years aboard the nuclear powered cruiser USS South Carolina (CGN37), which was commissioned near the time the Nimitz went into service. The South Carolina, along with its sister ship the USS California (CGN36) went to sea a lot with the Nimitz while the fossil-fuel ships remained in port. There were quite a few nuclear powered cruisers at one time, but Clinton's administration decommissioned them all and sold them for scrap metal. Jimbo, thats awesome!. what was your rate if i may ask. By the way, thank you for your service[:)]
