Speaking of sermons, podcasts, and food for thought...
John Piper's "Ask Pastor John" podcast for today was pretty interesting...
The question was something about why we do works if our salvation is by grace. In answering, Piper noted that far from "paying off debt", our doing works actually represents INCREASED debt to God, because it is only by continuing grace that we do the good works we do. So every time we do a good deed, rather than thinking good of ourselves for moving closer to God... we really need to fall down in thankfulness ever more that he gave us even more grace to do what we did.
FYI, "Ask Pastor John" is a 5-minute Q/A podcast where he answers email questions people send in (usually one question per day).

Openness theology is the heresy going around these days that God does not know the future because He is moving through time just like we are. So, when bad things happen, he is just as surprised as we are. It reminds me of that KFC hot wings commercial, "Oh! I didn't see that coming!"

Gee, Honest, Doug, I haven't heard a thing. It's current now? Isn't that emergent that is the big controversy or is that over? Guess with cancer and divorce my head has been elsewhere. Thanks for catching me up.

I've been listening very intensely to RC Sproul, his podcast series on 'hard sayings of Jesus" now its really interesting because he touches on one question that plagues reformed theologists - or rather the ones who fight reformed theologians - and he answers it in like 20 minutes, perfect! he states what the questioner would ask and all his doubts and arguments, and puts them succinctly to rest! i cant get enough.
Between he and Paul Washer, mostly, God is really doing something intense with my learning and I love it.. I ride the train to and fro work for about an hour each way and its perfect - 2 hours of preaching every day!!! (I got an i-pod and downloaded sermons so that i could take advantage of the time on purpose and its been a blessing!!!!).

Unfortunately it is still current, although you would think such a rediculous heresy would be put to rest right away.
The emergent church is another topic altogether!

It's Paul David Washer and he heads up Heartcry Missionary Society - at least I think that's then name.
He's very bold and makes no excuses.

When I consider this concept I think of Paul coming to understanding how far from God he was and how that realization grew in him as he was shown all so well the doctrine of God's grace... The above is clearly why Paul said of himself and Apollo’s, we are nothing, it is God who causes the growth; as well regardless that he labored more than others, it is only by God’s grace... It's strange at times cause many times when garnersome new revelation in God's word many times it knocks me down because I realized how awful I have been and why on earth does God give me the time of day... Sometimes I wish He would just take me home...

Ya, it's hard to go wrong listening to those two, such solid teaching that is getting so hard to find anymore, at least around where i live. It's hard being reformed doctrinally and finding nothing better than a Calvary chapel to attend. No offense to anyone who likes the CC's, but i need more than a tickled ear.

What else do y'all listen to?
I regularly listen to Renewing Your Mind, White Horse Inn, and Steve Brown's stuff on Key Life, Thinkspots, Steve Brown Etc, the Brown Sessions, and the rest of his gang on Etcetera. I also listen to Joe and Melissa Johnson on Watching Theology and Watching the Directors.
And of course monergism.com has a huge list of things to listen to.
I get all of this for free online!

I think I'm pretty caught up on all my SG listening... at least for a little while.
I've listened to Ligon Duncan in the past and have read his books.
Same for Dever.
I find it sometimes hard to listen to Sproul - I usually read his stuff as I do with Piper.
I haven't listened to Steve Brown in a month or so, but I love hearing him talk. I get his monthly cd's.
Good list...
