Two of my least favourite movies..."Meet Joe Black" and "Bicentennial Man"

Both dragged on forever...I walked out of the room during "Meet Joe Black", did some chores, came back, and didn't miss anything. [8|]

I loved Meet Joe Black! I thought it was some of Brad Pitt's best work. Granted, it was a bit long, but I thought the music, the acting, the dialogue, etc. was all very well done.

I just remember being bored to pieces. Brad's best work was Legend's of the Fall IMO. [:)]

Well I did say Meet Joe Black was "some of" his best work[:)]
But, yeah, I think Meet Joe Black is one of those films you either loved or hated. Aside from Brad Pitt being perfectly cast as Death, I really thought Anthony Hopkins was phenomenal in this movie as well.

not at all....cause that movie is WAY UP THERE on the list of "worsts"....

even the "subject matter" couldn't save that one.

I'll have to respectfully disagree on that one. Obviously, this film can't compete with big budget films. I mean, most of the cast consisted of local volunteers from the church. But, to categorize it as the worst movie ever- I think that's a bit of a stretch. IMO, there are far worse movies out there than Facing the Giants.

Part of what makes a movie "good" or "bad" is the quality of the acting. When someone puts out a movie, and expects you to pay $10 to go see it, it had better be darn good.

As I have mentioned in other threads, the acting in our church's children's choir musical recently (grades 1-6), was at least as good, if not better, than what I saw in that movie.

Would you be saying the VERY same things....and defending it the same, if it were movie about JUST a high school football team....without the "preaching" in it... (and didn't have the "Christian Movie" label attached to it?)....I would venture to guess that most would have never have bothered to see it at all....

I didn't say it was "the worst".....just way up on the list among "the worst".

When a film is as unintentionally corny as this one, it's anyone's guess as to how many viewers can stomach all the schmaltz for the positive message at the end.

Do you know which publication said that about "Facing the Giants"? Christianity Today. Even they gave it a "1 star" rating.

http://www.christianitytoday.com/movies/reviews/2006/facingthegiants.html

in conclusion: Any critic who, in assessing its technical and artistic excellence (or lack thereof), dares to point out Giants' weaknesses along with its strengths is bound to upset people who think that Christian content alone is sufficient to make it a good movie.

I have to agree with most of what's been posted - and I did read them all!

I can't believe no one mentioned:

The Aviator - Leonardo DeCaprio as Howard Hughes - Total waste of film. That's 3 hours of my life I won't get back!

Kingpin - Woody Harrelson & Randy Quaid - [:'(][:'(][:'(]

I've never been much for reading critic's reviews of movies. I don't need someone else telling me whether or not a movie was good. I'm capable of deciding for myself. So the Christianity Today review really doesn't phase me very much.
I personally think Christian content goes a long way in making a good movie. With all the garbage that comes out of Hollywood, it's nice to go into a movie knowing you are not going to be offended by the message or contents therein. But that's my opinion, and you're certainly entitled to your own. We'll just have to agree to disagree on Facing the Giants[:)]

LoyalFriend -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (5/26/2008 11:10:05 PM)

Movie:O Brother, Where Art Thou?
Main Actor: George Clooney
Story:About three escaped convicts search for hidden treasure while a relentless lawman pursues them.

Personally I thought this movie would never end and I would would not have sat through it had it not been for family visitors being over watching it. One of the worst movies in my book.[:'(]

trumpeter4Jesus -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (6/2/2008 10:48:31 PM)

Worst movie I have seen in the theater was "Star Ship Troopers". (My wife and I saw this on our first date. Find the full story in another thread.)

Worst movie I rented was "Cutthroat Island". It is the only movie I ever rented and did not finish.

Cinexcellence -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (6/17/2008 11:11:59 PM)

^ I would have agreed a few days ago. But I've been thinking about it ever since I saw it, so it can't be that bad.

$8 for a matinee? I feel sorry for your. Mine was 6.50

henny -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (6/18/2008 4:59:46 AM)

"Starship Troopers" is completely underrated. Watch it as a comedic satire of American imperialism, as oppossed to a serious action movie, and I think you'll like it a lot better.

Aviator, O Brother Where art Thou, and Kingpin are all good too.

It always amuses me how different people's tastes are.

Lady_Bear -> RE: What is the worst movie ever? (6/18/2008 6:48:54 AM)

SUPERHERO .. this is the one when the kid is bitten by the DRAGONFLY and gets super hero powers and everything is like SPIDERMAN ... really dumm movie ... NOT WORTH IT ALL !!
