This thread is a discussion of what would break the deal for you.

Assume your intended is perfect EXCEPT for the questioned characteristic, would that break the deal for you. Please also explain why. This will help us to know each other better as well to have a better understanding of what we are looking for in a mate.

I took the last question from the closed thread as a logical starting point.





DOND: Has to deal with the impending deaths of immediate family within the upcoming year.

That would be fine for me- as I have recently, and I am a compassionate person by nature. Ideally, I'd continue dating him for at least a part of this time to get some REAL insight as to how marraige would be (if he's a rock who turns inwardly when he grieves, if we ever lost a child he probably wouldn't be the best person for me if I need someone expressive KWIM?).

Isn't that how it's supposed to be? The hard word is Every. If you can change that to 99% of the time then that's me and we'd be together there.

Someone who places God before me? It would be a dealbreaker for me if I did come before God in his life.

Now, the whole at church every time the door is open thing might be an area that needs discussion, but it would not be a dealbreaker for me.

Hates to do laundry? Well, I'm not particularly fond of it either. He refuses to help with the laundry? As long as he puts his dirty clothes in the hamper, I'm ok with doing all the laundry. Now... what happens if I die and he has no idea how to run a washing machine and a dryer and an iron? Guess he's poop-outta-luck!! [8D]

Not a deal-breaker for me. I'd love to have one or two more children, but if he doesn't want more children, or if we're unable, it wouldn't bother me, as I already am a parent.

As long as it's in my geographic region, Deal! [:D] For me to move, I'd have to leave my child, my future grandchildren, my aging parents, my extended family, my church family, and my home town. Other than that, I wouldn't mind moving to another area of the country. [8D]

DOND: He/She is healthy, but has a family gene that means they would very likely produce children with a major disability (i.e. Downs Syndrome, Sickle Cell Anemia, etc.) (This came up in a conversation with a co-worker today and I immediately thought "what a perfect DOND question. )

Wow. that's tough. I want to say that I'd say deal but I just can't. After dealing with Michele's illness i'm just not strong enough to go there yet.

Deal as long as those parties are not taking so much time from the relationship that it is hurting because of it.

Haha. I had to laugh. All my friends tell me I do laundry "like a man" because I just put everything in one load and turn it on. So... most of my whites are a little "blue" or "pink", etc.

ND: Physical threats can become 'no longer empty' at any time. Others- he is all talk- I prefer someone who's word means something and who isn't a wimp who backs down...

Skip the Orioles games and if the ravens aren't playing the Packers why bother watching? Probably still deal though. I'll let her watch her games as long as I get to watch mine. and she doesn't make me sit through the baseball games.

I respectfully have to differ on this opinion. It could just be that the person moved alot (for good reasons) and just had different bank accounts from different places they lived, and perhaps their car loan was with one bank, their extremely low interest credit card was with another bank, etc. Also, people who run their own businesses generally have separate accounts for their business, to keep expenses and such separate from personal stuff. Just wanted to point out that there could be legitimate reasons for having multiple accounts, that's all. [:)]

DOND: Silly Putty is something they keep in large quantities.

Death is a part of life . . . I would want to be there to provide prayer and emotional support.

However, I don't necessarily think that is synonymous with being in church every time the door is open (nor do I think such behaivor is necessary; nor do I automatically consider this behaivor to necessarily reflect a deep Spiritual life and relationship with Our Lord).

Truthfully . . . at this point in my life, NO Deal. I have been playing with my hair for a few months now, and I am really REALLY loving it. In December, I had 12" of long straight hair cut off and the rest (which is about 1/2" past the lobes of my ears) put in a spiral perm. A month ago, I had it colored auburn red. I'm having a LOT of fun doing this . . . and it has lifted my spirits and has given me some extra confidence that I didn't even know I needed. And quite frankly, I'm really enjoying the compliments I'm getting. [:)] And depending on what I "do" with my hair in the mornings . . . I can have fluffy hair or tight curly hair; a "do" for all moods. LOL

I realize that not all of my answer deals specifically with long hair . . . but for me, it's the idea behind the philosophy that I'm addressing . . . that a wife cannot change her looks unless her husband approves. There is more to me than my beauty; and while I will want my husband to notice and appreciate my beauty, I will also desire that he appreciate ALL aspects of me; not just the externals. Placing emphasis on my keeping my hair long negates this.

This would only be an issue if he refused to put me on all his accounts after we get married. Money should not be a separate thing between a husband and wife.

Deal; trivia is fun and interesting and, even sometimes, actually educational (although Cliff Claven, in his totality, is definitley not for me).



YES OR NO: Outside of the basic precept of WHO God is, they don't have a lot of black and white areas in their life (including all aspects . . . Spiritual, Political, etc.)

I think it would depend on what the debt is from.. school loans, no problem. Gambling? Definitely no deal.

No deal. I once dated someone like that. Totally pliable and puttyin my hands (not silly putty however). That can be entertaining for about 10 minutes and then it becomes a nightmare. I prefer someone with set opinions (even if some of them don't agree with mine)
