As for a good digital, I have a friend who is a professional photographer and he swears by his digital Canon Rebel. He loves it. He does everything from advertising and promotional pics to senior pictures and weddings. I have a film Rebel and love it, but he says the digital Rebel is great.

I hear the SLRs lenses also fit the digital cameras, is that correct?

$1,500.00 will put you into a first rate Nikon D80 with a 18mm-70mm zoom. Thats with memory card battery etc. Complete, ready to go. You can get a D50- -D70 for less with a lower quality chip the D80 is 12 mega-pixel, the others I mentioned are 4 MP's. I hope this helps some.
I was already invested in many Nikon lenses which work with the D80, and it's a great camera. The Cannon digital Rebel is also very nice. I used Steve Weatherford's last year at a concert and it gave great results and I think it's a little bit less expensive.

I'm not sure what they run now, but when they first came out they were around $1,000.00.

Yes, the 35mm lenses for SLR's will fit, at least in the Nikon, I know for sure. The difference is that the focal length in 1.5 X what would be normal coverage on 35mm film. This is due to the smaller sensor size of the lower priced digital cameras using smaller size CCD image chips. A full size chip camera in the Nikon line, I forget the number, it is about $5,500.00 for the body only and the resolution is about 12 MP's like the D80.

You can get a pretty good Digital Camera at Wal-mart for less than $200.00. These are in the 5 mega pixel range. They are not professional quality cameras but are quite adequate for the rest of us.

I have done that; my camera is 4 or 5 megapixels, a relatively ordinary Kodak.

Himself got me a Canon Powershot 5 mp for our anniversary one year, and even *I* can take pretty good pictures with it.

I use a Kodak EasyShare c875. It is 8 MegaPixel, and I got it at Best Buy for $236.99. I was in there about 3 weeks ago, however, and the price has gone down to $198. It is a great camera! I love it.
I have NEVER had good luck taking pix at concerts! About a year ago, I took my niece to see The Dove Brothers. She HAD to sit on the front row! (not that I complained, lol)...
Anyway, I tried several times to take pix, but... well... if anyone here has ever been to a DBQ concert, you know that McCray is like the hardest person ever to get in a pic! The best I got were clear of everyone... except McCray. As a matter of fact, you couldn't even tell it was a person, just a big blur!
I finally had enough and put my camera away, next thing I know, my niece is snapping away on my camera (not the one listed above, my previous one). I noticed that once, Eric looked directly at her, then was blinded by the flash. So I decided to let her have her fun. I turned off the flash and let her snap away...
She took somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 pictures, and of the one's I deleted, only about 6 were poor quality. At first I was like, "Gee, this is great. My 5 y/o niece takes better pix than me!".. Then Something occured to me... Maybe I was just "trying too hard"... Trying to hold, and wait for the perfect shot... Now, I find my setting (sport and landscape works best), usually turn off the flash, and snap away. When I am done, I weed through and delete what I don't want... My pix have turned out better overall.
Now, I am not jumping up, and holding the camera high through the whole concert. I usually am able to keep it at a discreet height (provided I am up close), so that most don't notice that I am snapping as many as I am...
That's my suggestion... find your setting, turn off the flash (if possible, this doesn't work in EVERY setting), and snap, snap, snap... Don't wait for the "perfect" spot to take a shot... Just snap several in a row, no waiting, then "review" and see what they look like...

At most concerts I usually have better luck either using the nighttime setting on my camera, or using no flash at all. Sometimes the singers don't stand still quite long enough for these settings to work their best, though. 
I have a digital camera...a Canon EOS 20D, which I absolutely love. I usually end up with some dark photos and some blurry photos as well, but overall my photos turn out quite well. Plus, if I'm not using the flash and I'm not holding my camera up high, I can take as many photos as I like without disturbing the other people around me and then delete the ones that don't turn out as well as I'd like.

Daniel, if you have a Kodak digital camera, it should have a night time setting on it, use the night time setting and your pics should turn out better in the low lighting. The only thing bad is you have to hold very still while taking the photo and hope your subject doesn't move too much while you are taking the photo. I have found this works better for me than using the auto setting or any other setting when taking concert photos.

On the Canon EOS 20D, are you able to change the sensitivity or ISO settings? Running it up to 2400 or greather will really help you a lot. Sometimes a higher setting that 2400 will caues electronic artifacts. Try it and see.

Hey Daniel. You saw my pics from last weekend. I was sitting 4th row from the back of the auditorium. I have an Olympus SP-55OUZ. It is 7.1 megapixels. 18X Optical Zoom and the lens can be extended even further than that. When I bought it last year, it was around $500. If that's too steep, you maybe can wait until Christmas sales hit and pick one up cheaper.
Before the show starts I do test runs from my seat to see what setting works best. I usually use either sport, available light, or candle. Sport tends to be really grainy though. For SG artists, the motion wasn't too bad. That night I used the Candle setting. Also, as you saw I got pics of the screen. You can get great close-ups that way too.

Does anybody still use cameras that you put the film in? those are getting to be a thing of the past. Not only do i still have my 35 mm camera like that, i still have my C-110 camera. Do any of you guys remember that, 110 film? then i used to have a Kodak Disc Camera, that goes back a few years.

You got those pictures in the 4th row from the back? Wow, that camera is good!
