ORIGINAL: followtheLeader Thanks SharMar. That is not my pariticular problem, but it lead me to a place that at least answered some questions but created more unfortunately. Isn't that always the way? I hope whatever's going on is easily corrected. I'm sitting here basking in Our Lord's help that he's given me today. My sliding screen door came out of the tracks a little while ago; and it was no easy thing to get it back in, but I finally did it. Yes, and it usually requires me cleaning the tracks really good too. Did you get it back on by yourself or is that the help you were talking about. No I got it back on by myself, with the help of a step stool and a Phillips head screwdriver. The tracks were clean. The door itself wasn't installed properly in the first place (not by me), and has always been obstinate. It came off the tracks today; and it took me a little bit, but I finally got it back on (AND, I might add, properly installed this time).

Hey, honey. I have inherited a beautiful antique chest of drawers. Problem is, it's very unstable, though it is somewhat usable. The drawers get stuck easily, and the whole thing wobbles from side to side. I don't have time to work on it right now, but soon I do want to fix it up a bit. My mom believes it was dropped and put back together at one point. Where should I start?

(Especially with Pun'kin under it! ) (But I'm not too sure I like the casters. I wonder if they're original to the piece(?))

Mom was going to give it away and I told her she needed to give it to me! I love it! It's on rollers (I had to go check) so I'm sure it's not original. I don't like it, either. But right now, since it's unstable, they have to stay.

Lots of old furniture was made with rollers. If you want to do it the right way you disassemble the entire piece and reglue all the joints. It takes a while but you will have preserved the piece. If you're not so interested in maintaining the "antiqueness" of the piece you can remove the drawers and brace the inside corners with wood and small screws (BEing carefull of course to not put a screw through the outside) Of course I'm just a hacker when it comes to furniture. Do we have any furinture builders on here?

We used to do a lot of antique shopping. If I remember corrected the casters were popular from about 1890 to about 1930 or maybe even later.

They really do detract from the appearance, though. If I can get it stabilized, I will try to remove the rollers.

I know very little about furniture construction but just wanted to say that is a beautiful piece. My grandmother had a dresser of about the same time period and it was on rollers as well and they were original.

quote: Hey, honey, how do a make a picture to fit into an avatar? I'll take a crack at this one. Open the picture in your photo editor. Resize it to no more than 145 x 145. "Save as" (whatever). That new file then is the one you can upload as your avatar. You'll want the resolution at 72 and keep an eye on the file size. If it's too big it won't upload (size limits).

ORIGINAL: teaspoon61 I have two slow moving drains and thought about using a drain cleaner designed for this. BUT - I've heard that they can damage pipes. Anyone know about this? I think all of my pipes are PVC, does this make a difference? If your pipes are all PVC then the drain cleaners (drano, liquid plumber etc) won't bother them at all. But always read the label just to be sure. Did a little research. PVC pipe is impervious to drain cleaners.

There's lot of recipe websites with a ton of recipes to choose from: recipezaar.com; foodnetwork.com; topsecretrecipes.com; pauladeen.com; allrecipes.com, etc.

Gee, I had to go looking for this thread - it was clear down in the middle of the second page. I'm really out of the loop, technology-wise. I use my pastor's "travel drive" every week at church. (Some things I do know how to do, just barely). Now, is that the same thing as a "thumb drive"? What about a "flash drive"? And while we're at it, are there any more terms for it? These newfangled gadgets cornfuzzle me!

ORIGINAL: deljefferson Hey Honey, I need some new recipes for chicken. Here's a very simple and delicious way ... * 1 whole chicken (approx. 3 lb.) * 2 medium lemons * Fresh lemon juice (1/2 cup) * Kosher or sea salt * Ground black pepper Place rack in upper third of oven and preheat to 400 degrees. Wash chicken inside and out with cold water, remove the giblets, then let the chicken drain, cavity down, in a colander until it reaches room temp (about 15 minutes). Pat dry with paper towels. Pour lemon juice all over the chicken (inside and outside). Season with salt and pepper. **** the whole lemons three times with a fork and place deep inside the cavity. (Tip: If lemons are hard, roll on counter-top with your palm to get juices flowing.) Place the bird breast-side down on a rack in a roasting pan, lower heat to 350 degrees and bake uncovered for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn it breast-side up (use wooden spoons!); return it to oven for 35 minutes more. Test for done-ness—a meat thermometer inserted in the thigh should read 180 degrees, or juices should run clear when chicken is ****ed with a fork. Continue baking if necessary. Let chicken cool for a few minutes before carving. Serve with juices. quote:

I found this answer for you Pam ... it looks like it is a brand name of a thumb drive ... from the memorex site: quote:
The U3 smart TravelDrive is a new standard that transforms USB Flash Drives from simple storage drives into USB smart drives, capable of carrying a wide range of software programs and settings. You can easily install the set of U3 programs you need on your U3 smart TravelDrive, and run them from any Windows computer by merely inserting your U3 smart TravelDrive into the USB port of the computer.

Hey honey..... I know there is something about not wanting to smash a cockroach.... What is that about? I think I just found my first one (barely) in my apartment. It was either dead or mostly dead, but I smashed it first to make sure before i picked it up with a kleenex. They spray pretty good around here for them.... but *shudder* now I'm just concerned that I unleashed something by hitting it first......

ORIGINAL: bootsNspurs_mod Hey honey..... I know there is something about not wanting to smash a cockroach.... What is that about? They make icky noises when you squish them? The only thing I know is you don't want to smash them on the walls as the blood will leave satins that are sometimes hard to remove. (But I used to smash them there anyway. A dead stain is better than a live roach) quote:

By smashing it you released the cockroach attracting pheromones!!!! This could be the end of your clean house as you know it. Every roach in a 5 state area will be headed to your place for lunch.. They'll be climbing on your counters, hiding on your raisin bread toast and if you're not really careful, reprogramming the clock in your VCR! If I were you I'd move. NOW!!! (Smash away if you want. You're not releasing anything except the roach from this life )

Hey honey......how 'bout a back rub? Ugh! I have literally been in the kitchen all day long (canning). What a shame - the weather was gorgeous today too. OK, here's one: is a garbage disposal really that easy to replace? I've heard it was and, being the do-it-yourself kind of gal I am, I'm thinking of tackling this. So how do I do it? Is there a website or something that has a step-by-step tutorial or is it asy enough to explain without pics?
