I would've suggested that for Jesse's bro but he already bought it from eBay Aust. Oh well...and the Aussie dollar is doing so well against the American dollar at the moment, we can afford to buy things from the US.

Sigh...went to a funeral yesterday. She was my great-great Aunty. Died age 94 and her funeral was held in the church she was baptised in.

Afterwards we were all invited for refreshments and there were 3 bottles of Para liquer port; one from 1933, one from 1939 and one from 1944. These were avaliable for tasting by the guests. My uncle told me that they are probably worth a couple hundred dollars a bottle.

Power outages at work are annoying POST!

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/8/2008 6:40:58 AM)

That's why (even though this is a government facility) I brought in my own UPS. Unfortuanately, they don't have one on the server so sometimes I still lose work....

POST!!!!

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/8/2008 9:58:20 PM)

We don't have a UPS. Jesse has one at home (he has his own network of about 9 computers including a server. *rolls eyes*).

Cold and miserable weather POST. (15*C [59*F] is the highest predicted all week...was 12 on Mon & 13 on Tues Maximum)

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/9/2008 3:26:42 PM)

You call that Winter weather??? You are on the southern coast, right? Shouldn't that be below freezing?

Post.

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/9/2008 7:05:52 PM)

I'm in the South, yes, but about an hour from the actual coast. It only ever goes below freezing at night, never during the day, maybe a bit in the morning too. In my area it's only ever snowed twice, the last time being 1996 (before we moved there) but Jesse can remember it. Top of 13*C today.

Post!

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/11/2008 3:14:59 PM)

Friday pm - ready for the weekend POST!!!

Tomorrow morning one of our elders is speaking at a sister congregation and I get to go with him!

So I am playing hooky from the worship team. He asks if Bruce (regular song leader) is OK with my being gone. I told him we were bringing in a ringer to fill in for me, and his name is Waggoner also. (my son) "Excelent!" was his response.

So - with me on bass, my daughter Laura on drums, my wife on piano, and now my son......

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/13/2008 10:51:35 PM)

It's a family affair!

2 parties down, only 8 more to go (last one scheduled 16 Aug) - why must everyone be turning 21 now!!

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/15/2008 6:45:38 AM)

Yeah - I wish the rest of the family was here also. My oldest daughter is still away from the Lord.[&o]

BTW, my youngest brother is now a "worship minister" in a large Church of Christ (the kind that does not allow musical instruments) and is an awesome guitarist. He has an accapella music CD out and it is good.

I may have him and his choir do something on my next recording....

Tuesday AM POST!!!!

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/15/2008 7:12:52 PM)

Wait, they have churches without musical instruments?? How do they keep time during the songs?

Wednesday AM POST!!

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/16/2008 7:49:27 AM)

Oh, they do quite well at that.

Church of Christ (vocal) follows the doctrines of a lesser known reformer (contemporary with Luther and Calvin) named Ulrich Zwingli. Before coming to faith he was a professional musician (violinist if memory serves) and ordained as a priest. Apparently the pride of musicianship was overwhelming and thusly eschewed all instrumental music after becoming a believer.

One of his hallmarks was the doctrinal stance that anything not specifically commanded or allowed IN THE NEW TESTAMENT was strictly forbidden. Since all instrumental music mentioned in the bible was OT, instruments are prohibited in the New.

This was in direct opposition to Luther who said that anything not specifically prohibited in scripture was allowed.

doctrinal/historical POST!!

edited to add:

You commented about all the August birthdays; 3 of my 4 "kids" were born in August and the first was in early Sept.

Sept 13, Aug 21, Aug 21, Aug 23

My son's (Aug 23) best friend Joe shares his birthday. (btw, Joe's dad is also named Dave and was Paul Wilbur's first bass player) Born 2 hours and 800 miles apart. Joe's older sister's birthday is Aug 22.

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/16/2008 7:09:48 PM)

Wow, thanks for the info Dave, I never knew that. I follow the Lutheran teachings. And I use my musicianship in church to praise God as I play in various bands - it's an important part of my worship of God.

And wow for birthdays three days in a row!!

Parties all round POST [:)]

DaveW -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/17/2008 8:03:54 AM)

Yeah, Zwingli is an interesting study. Worship Leader mag had an article on him back in the mid 90s. They published a list of reasons he forbade instrumental music in worship. I found most of his points very legit. But his approach to solving them was not unlike the Weselyan Holiness absolute ban on alcohol because some get drunk, or their ban on playing cards because some get hooked on gambling. Way overboard, trying to kill flies with sledgehammers.

POST!!

amymelissa -> RE: Last Lizard to Post - Take III (7/17/2008 7:16:33 PM)

I have to agree with you. As a Lutheran playing cards and drinking port is like, tradition. [;)]

Because you are in the middle of winter.

Besides, your description of winter was not THAT cold. No lake effect blizzards. No 6 ft snow drifts. No subzero (°F) temps (-18°C) for days on end.

We don't even get winter here, we never have snow on the ground for more than a week.

Of course we have summer. Almost 2 weeks straight with temps over 90°F. (33°C) Today we get a break. It is only supposed to be in the upper 80s.

Wednesday AM POST!!!

BTW, Amy, do you watch the new Australian version of "So You Think You Can Dance?" Love the show, these kids are SO GOOD!

Well, I suppose 6* is so cold for us because we're used to summer temps of 38. I wish we had snow, that would be so much better than the frost we get in the morning - took me 5 minutes to wash the ice off my car.

And no, I haven't watched the Aussie version of the Dance show - I don't watch much TV, especially reality shows and it's possibly on a night that I'm not home. But I watched an episode of the American version - they're awesome. They've started screening the American (I'm thinking previously Japanese) show Wipeout. It's absolutely hilarious!
