Paul, i got my cd yesterday in the mail, i am listening to the cd this morning and right now while i'm on the net. Wow! i am very impressed! I love it, it really is a very great project. You guys really have a great sound. So far, if i had to pick favorites, i would have to say #5. How I Want You To Know, and #1. I Can Call on Jesus Anytime. But i really love every single song on there, there is not one bad song. This cd is really a blessing to me. Thank you so much for getting this to me so fast. God Bless You.

Everytime I listen to "I'll Follow", I wonder how four old men can sound so good. Well at least three old men. You can guess who isn't the old man in the group. Bill? Paul? Mike? Ed?

Got a copy of Ralph Moores book, 'Still Small Voice' Saturday night. Ralph was The LeFevre's Bus driver. Looking thought the book this morning ran across a photo. An old photo of The Profits, Bob Raines was their bus driver. Members at that time were Ed Hill, Leu Garrison, Roy McNeil, Dave Rogers and Joe Moseheo.

I am told I should put aside my love and enjoyment of Southern Gospel and listen with an analytical ear in order to properly review a project. So I will attempt to do just that. I purchased The Prophets new project I’ll Follow and have listened to it as much as some, more than most. I have thoroughly enjoyed the CD. It is still in my CD player. Before I get into a song by gong review let me say a few things about The Prophets and their members. Ed Hill – I have listened to Ed Hill sing about as long as I have listened to Southern Gospel. From his days with the original Prophets through his days with the Stamps and his tour with Elvis. Ed Hill is a legend in Southern Gospel music and it is about time he is recognized for his contributions to the industry. If you listen to Mr. Hill sing you can hear the age in his voice, the man is 74 years old, but he can still belt out a somg with style and his harmony and blend are as tight as ever. Bill Baize – I have often said I don’t like a bass singer that growls and grunts his way through a song. On the reverse side I also don’t like the screaming squealing tenors that are common place today. I still like to hear a tenor of the old Irish Tenor variety. Bill Baize was and still is my kind of tenor singer. He can still carry a song well and hit the high notes with the best of them. Mike Allen – In my opinion Mike is one of the most versatile bass singers in Southern Gospel. He has a range that allows him to hit the low notes and yet he can step it up to the baritone part in order to keep the 4 part harmony smooth and blended. Mike is on my short list of the best bass singers in Southern Gospel. Paul Jackson – The only unknown variable when I ordered the CD. I had never heard Paul sing before. I was pleased with what I heard. As has been mentioned he does have a slight vibrato in his voice. This is not a problem as long as it is not to pronounced. It does show up in his solo’s but not in the blend or harmony. Even in the solo parts it was not so much that it distracted me from the song or the message. Paul is a fine lead singer. Eddie Crook – It is about time Eddie started traveling with a group again. I have always enjoyed his piano style and I think it is appropriate for his first venture back on the road to be in a group with the likes of Ed Hill and Bill Baize. I Can Call Jesus Anytime - This is a great song to lead into the project with. It is a good old classic Quartet song. The prophets have updated the music, added a few new chords and pretty much made it their own song although it has been recorded by many other artists. I have never heard an arrangement anywhere close to this on before and I found it refreshing and enjoyable. I Just Call It Home - This song really speaks to me. I think it sums Heaven up for a lot of us. Paul Jackson does a good job presenting the song although I think the vibrato in his voice probably shows up more in this song than any other. I often hear songs that leave me wondering how the singer could sing without a tear in his /her voice. This is one such song. And yes Paul Jackson does have a tear in his voice but I think I would also. It is still a good message presented in a pleasing manner. One Thing The Father Forgets – This is an excellent collaboration between Daniel Mount and Paul Jackson. As has been pointed out it is the only song on the project that features Mike Allen. And it shows why Mike is one of the best bass singers in the business. I like the way it spotlights the lower and upper end of the quartet sound with Mike carrying the solo and Bill Baize having a spot in the course. Well written and presented. It does have a slight country sound to it I can almost hear the Oakridge Boys of yesterday singing this one. There has been a lot of talk by other reviewers as to why Mike and Ed and Bill were not featured on more songs. I guess this is a good place to address that. So f | | |
