Actually, this is all automatic.

Every night the system does a purge of any thread that has been inactive for a year.

Obviously, the more you've posted in that thread the more your post count will go down.

The only way to avoid having your post count drop is to keep posting today as much as you posted a year ago.

This is a feature that we have to keep in place in order to keep our Forum functioning well.

Most places that are equal to our size don't keep their threads as long as we do. My guess is that we may have to purge them sooner as we grow in size.

But for now the year purge seems to be keeping our systems in check.

I was thinking about this thread earlier . . .

Even though I've been posting here in these threads for almost 7 years (this coming June), my post count is only reflective of the past 3 years (when the big merger took place and more specifically, the exact date of when I registered here after the merger).

But even so, I really didn't post (that much on a regular basis) until around October of '06 (From 6/05 - 10/06, I was dealing with the first year's after-effects of when CS died and also attending to tasks that arose from his death).

SO!! That means that my post count is really reflective of only the past 18 months.

ALTHOUGH . . . I did glance at my post count earlier today, and it was 22,000 plus some 300 or so.

However, now it shows that it is over 22,400.

I have not been very chatty today and I KNOW I have not made 100+ posts today.

THAT is weird.

Hmmm . . . before this specific post, I was at 22,415. I just went to my profile and saw that I have made 62 posts today (before this) one. That would have started me today at 22,353.

Since I didn't really notice my specific post count earlier today (I, instead, just noticed it was in the 22,300s), maybe 22,415 is actually a correct count, afterall.
