Hey, I had one in the 80's, and did okay in the dating scene. It wasn't the fashion crime that it is nowadays.
Just watch an hour of VH-1 Classic sometime and check out just how acceptable the mullet was during that decade....

i've actually been thinking of getting a tatoo....a tatoo of a mullet.
so i'll have one forever.

I don't have any tattoos and don't ever plan to get any. I see no pros, but a lot of cons.

Thank You. We can't just accept things as no. We have to use our enlightened brains to reason through every single thing.
I find it somewhat odd that only recently has the church been "shifting" on this issue yet ever since the Early Church tattoos have been condemned.
Apparently we are lowering our standards significantly. We can't speak for God but by God we can plaster junk on our body because we are too afraid to speak up and say something.

I grew up in a period when tattoos were not mainstream. "Respectable" people didn't get tattoos. That has changed, but I haven't changed my opinion about getting tattoos. I prefer not to mark up my body unless there is a good reason.

I have always been of the opinion that if someone believed something so much to show it in such a visible manner (tattoo) then more power to them. I don't see where the bible says thou shalt not have a tattoo.

I grew up in a period where tattoos are mainstream. Respectable and "disreputable" people get tattoos.  I think that could be a reason why I don't see the harm in tattoos.
Has anyone ever watched Miami Ink? It's a show on TLC that tapes tattoo artists inking up their customers. Some of the reasons behind the tattoos they get are very moving. Some got a tattoo in memory of their father or grandmother who had passed away. One got a tattoo spiritual in nature, he was an ex-con and had turned his life around and wanted a reminder to show what helped him turn to the good path. Another got a tattoo of a phoneix, it symbolized the radical change they went through in their life.
Sure there are people out there that will get a tattoo as a fashion statement, but there are countless others that get a tattoo because it really does mean something to them, symbolizes whatever happened in their life they want to put down permamently. And if that person is a Christian and want to showcase how Jesus is in their life now or they want to proclaim their faith on their skin more power to them. I imagine it can be a starting point for a conversation, "What does that tattoo mean? Why did you get it?", talking about one's faith. Anyways, I can't see how a tattoo is different than a cross on a chain you may wear around your neck. Or those magnets or bumper stickers on the car. The picture of Jesus hung on the wall in your house.... The only difference is that one's faith is being proclaimed on one's body, on one's skin.

You can easily remove them anytime you want.

That's not what I meant.  I meant it's just another way for a Christian (if they choose to do so) to proclaim their faith. What is wrong with that?

It's a matter of personal conviction, Scripture is not definitive on the issue. Therefore, to make the claim that it is a sin and claim it so for EVERYONE is not only presumptuous, but legalistic. It removes any room for liberty and grace for each believer.

My small tattoo on my ankle has gotten nothing but positive feed back from fellow Christians. Actually when I was 3 days overdue with our second daughter my sweet hubby sent me out for a pedicure. The woman sitting next to me saw my tattoo and asked me about it. She said that she really liked it and I got to share with her about our common faith. What a witness to the other women getting their feet done!
My Joel's tattoo is not small but is a fantastic witness as well! It's on his left outter bicep and when people see it, usually only when he's wearing a tank top doing the lawn, or sporting event, etc. it shows people that not only was he an Airborn Ranger, but that he's been saved from his sins!

I got a tattoo in memory of my fiance who was killed in iraq 18 months ago. It is a cross with the USMC shield on it. It's not very big and most people don't even notice it but when they do it has provided the opportunity for me to be a witness to them. I don't see a problem with it.

It's personal preference. Like I said, I grew up in an era when most people with tattoos were pretty rough and/or unsavory characters. It is hard for me to accept tattoos as mainstream. I just don't personally see a good reason for them, and especially with so many people getting them. I think a lot of people are getting them now because it is the cool thing to do. But I wonder if they will feel the same way in 30 years when their tattoos don't look so good on sagging and wrinkled skin?
