Well, something had to happen!
Caps have a new coach... from the Hershey team...hmmm

At first I was thrilled, (my dh thought I was too happy for a guy that lost his job on Thanksgiving!) then got to thinking about it... Caps haven't done well since we had a coach with NHL experience... and this will be our 3rd AHL coach... albeit an interim coach...

The quotes from the players sound like they are in mourning, rather than excited over a new coach...

I guess time will tell. If things still go bad, then, gmgm needs to go!

Caps have the talent, just weren't producing. Maybe the coaching change will have the same effect it had on the Thrashers.

The Nucks lost to St. Louis last night. Didn't see the game thought

Well, the new coach is now 2 and 0. It was nice to see a win for a change.
I'm still not getting too excited. This coach just canceled today's practice... well, ok, they practiced every day last week, including Thanksgiving...so a day off after 2 wins...ok... but these guys still need all the practice they can get! Three games this week with practices every day as well....time will tell....

(can you tell I'm not a happy season ticket holder? We added it up... We've been sth since 1999. Every evening costs us about $125- $150 a game X 40+ games a year.... I could be vacationing in Tuscany every year for what it costs us to watch a team that can't make the playoffs.)

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (11/25/2007 11:59:35 PM)

Canucks are up 1-0 to the Chicago Blackhawks as we speak and there is 15:25 left in the third.

Jesusfreak66 -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (11/27/2007 12:13:12 PM)

Sure, now that the Pens string a couple of victories together, they don't play again for over a week.

Rumor mill says they are getting ready to cut Recchi. He's decent in the locker room, but just seems to have lost another step.

rynthetyn -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (11/28/2007 12:21:07 AM)

And, the Lightning may very well be seriously screwed. The sale of the team just fell apart, part of the potential ownership group is suing Hollywood producer dude for $50 million, and the rumors that Palace Sports wants to gut the team are back in full force. Reading between the lines, it appears that Hollywood producer dude and his $500 million dollars from the Saw franchise is the only one who actually had any real money, but Real Estate Developer dude and Doug McLean were going to be the ones getting all of the profit out of the deal and controlling the team, which Hollywood producer dude didn't like since he was going to be the one fronting all the money and securing the financing. So, Hollywood producer dude goes behind the other dudes' backs and tries to negotiate his own deal, which was in direct breach of his contract with the other dudes, so now he's getting sued for breach of contract and fraud.

At the moment, the best case scenario is for Hollywood producer dude to reach some sort of deal out of court to pay of the other guys, and then to buy the team himself, since if Palace Sports sticks around, they're going to go into fire sale mode and then bye bye Vinny.

The Lightning ownership situation has always been a bit of a joke. First we had the Japanese dudes and Kokusai Green, who Phil Esposito found at the last minute to save his bid for a team (famous quote, "the more we drank, the more it made sense. We said 'hockey', they thought we said 'sake'"), with the owner that no one, possibly not even Bettman, ever met and who's existence no one to this day is sure about, and who may or may not have been using the team to launder money because they may or may not have had Yakuza ties. And, if nothing else, the team president in that era, one Steve Oto, was a lawyer who did work for Yakuza operations in the US. Along the way, the Maloofs acted like they were going to buy the team, test drove it and ruined all the draft picks one year, some phony duke pretended he was going to buy the team and scammed them out of a bunch of money, Art Williams bought the team on a whim while on vacation in France, then thought he knew how to run the team because he had once coached highschool football and would give lengthy "motivational speeches" to the team, embarrassed everyone by calling Vinny Lecavalier the "Michael Jordan of hockey" and giving Vinny a ridiculous "I'm A Stud" t-shirt, then stupid idiot Gary Bettman convinced Bill Davidson to buy the team, where they've spent the last however many years as the red-headed step sibling of the Pistons and whatever Davidson's WNBA team is called (and I'm pretty sure Davidson pays more attention to the WNBA team), and now this whole purchase fiasco. And this in a team that's only existed for 15 years.

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/1/2007 12:34:25 AM)

Roberto Luongo has been on a tare as of late. Three Straight Shutouts. (190 Minutes). New Canuck Record.

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/1/2007 11:57:44 PM)

Can't believe the Habs lost the game tonight against Nashville. The Habs had a 4-1 lead with 9 minutes left in the game and they lose in a shootout.

What is going on with the Sens right now? They have lost 5 in a row with the loss to the Rangers this afternoon

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/4/2007 12:38:28 AM)

Just to let u know in case u didn't know already that Louongos shutout streak is now over after loseing 2-1 to the wild last night

colliefan -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/4/2007 9:06:47 PM)

After winning a game they should of lost to the Caps, geting blasted by the slugs, the Canes played a solid game in beating the Rangers last night. Now to see if the trend continues Thursday night in Tampa against the Bolts.

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/5/2007 12:03:41 AM)

What a wierd week for both the Ontario hockey teams. The Leafs have won three in a row and the sens have lost 7.

Well, I'm a happy camper (not about the loafs, that is), since the 7th loss came to my Bolts, who managed to avoid completely blowing the lead and the game like they had been doing.

Incidentally, it wasn't televised here, so does anybody know if the refs were really as much of an bunch of idiots as Phil Esposito seemed to think on the radio broadcast?

Jesusfreak66 -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/5/2007 8:01:59 AM)

As I predicted, the Pens put Mark Recchi on waivers. He has had a great career. I am sorry to see him go.

There has been some talk on the Canes message board of them claiming him but they don't have room in the salary cap to do so,

CrockettandTubbs -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/5/2007 9:51:04 PM)

Well the Sabres started out alot slower this year, but I think they are gonna be there at the end of the year, despite the losses of Drury and Briere...

Jesusfreak66 -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/6/2007 7:38:54 AM)

Uuuugghh! Pens were trailing 2-0 after 2 periods and playing with no emotion, so I turned game off and went to bed. I feel shame. [:o]

rynthetyn -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/7/2007 12:16:31 AM)

Well, the Lightning seem to be back to having their act together, so that's good, it makes me a happier camper.

And the Canes clearly do not have their act together. PK that is last in the NHL. A PP that has gone from the top of the league towards the middle. An offense that has, at times, proved offensive. And a defense that has more holes than swiss cheese.

Given the Canes record in Montreal, they should do well against the Habs on Saturday. And given the recent win-one lose-one record they should get destroyed on Sunday at the Joe.

I am happy as well. I am not the biggest Sens fan.

Yankee Nut -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/10/2007 12:09:21 AM)

What a game last night between the Canucks and the Pens. The Canucks lost in a shootout but Luongo stopped Crosby twice on a penalty shot and in the shootout

rynthetyn -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/11/2007 11:52:19 PM)

Well, it looks like the Lightning sale is back on. Hollywood producer dude reached a settlement with the other members of the attempted ownership group that were suing him, and now he's buying the team himself. Dude certainly has enough money with all of it that he's raking in off of the Saw franchise.

rlj -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/12/2007 10:35:25 AM)

Just remember Ryn, I'm a Blue Jackets fan and after all of those years of Doug running the team you won't end up worse without him. : /

Yeah, I'm glad that he's not part of the deal now. It's not like he even had that kind of money, he just wanted to go around saying "I own a hockey team" while letting others foot most of the bill. Hollywood producer dude clearly figured that out and decided that he didn't want to foot the bill while letting someone else make all the decisions. Here's hoping that producer dude doesn't use the team as a way to vicariously live out his own failed attempt at a professional hockey career.

rlj -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/13/2007 10:58:37 AM)

Sad thing is my team is on par to be worse than your team and we have solid ownership. :X We just didn't have the circus antics and such that yours did in the first few years.

Jesusfreak66 -> RE: NHL 2007-2008 (12/13/2007 2:18:01 PM)

Recchi's first game in a Thrasher uniform and he scores 2 goals. I guess he wasn't completely washed up after all!
