I'll go for this one! Sounds fun. I'm trying to think of what kind of costume to wear this year. Last year I went out as a milkmaid. That was fun. I even wore my costume to work.

I haven't been out to a haunted house or anything like that in years. Yeah, they're so much fun. It's just almost impossible not to interact with someone at these kinds of events.

I don't like them, so I just don't go to them.

I don't like them either.

There is a very popular one here it had a wait last weekend of 2 hours to get tickets and 2 more hours to get in. I'd imagine it would be impossible not to interact with people in that line!

I don't know if what I did tonight fits one of the challenges but I think it is in the spirit of the challanges.

Some background: I am the lead driver of a van pool of 15 people. One of my riders invited everyone on the van to a Halloween party that she and her husband were throwing. I decided to go. I did not wear a costume because I did not have time to put one together (See the Chat thread) So I went to the party. None of the other van people where there and the only person I knew was the hostess.

I stayed about 90 minutes. I sat watching the football game with about 10 other people. (There were about 50 people total.) The game was a point of reference for conversations with the others watching the game.

Gary, you went to a party and watched football. (That's ok, I probably would've watched the game, too) But seriously, halloween parties are definitely part of the challenge. Glad you enjoyed it!!

...so, did you talk to any ladies??

Yes, there were a couple of ladies watching the games with their husbands and I had a brief conversation with one of them.

There were a lot of couples with children there. I did not see many unattached people.

I've never seen any delimiters saying these people had to be single. Remember, we're not trying to get a date, we're trying to exercise our social muscles.

Well, shucks. I hang out with 2-3 married ladies on a weekly basis. (Bit of a story behind that, but they're friends of mine. I've taken some mental notes from a few of the conversations. )

No, they haven't. And that could be an interesting thing to ponder why.

And with that I am off to bed.

Goodnight Michele and Robb.

Heh heh. (I think this was directed at me, Gary. )

Nope. But they have tried to convince me to do various things like take a cooking or dancing class to meet people. (Not too big on either.) Also only one of them is a Christian (and I did ask her if there were any nice single girls at her church. Alas, no. )

G'Night Gary. (I should probably get to bed soon myself.)

That's ok, it was a good question for both of ya. I'm just full of questions this evening.

Hmm, cooking or dancing class.... methinks I could come up with a good challenge with that.

..... hey, where'd everyone go?

Okay...I was beat again. Someone here challenged me to call Mr. Fabulous Eyes up...well...he called first...and of course it was mostly business checking to see how the equipment is working. Sorry...I didn't ask any of the wonderful questions you all gave me ideas on. Oh well!

Just checking in. I've got three challenges so far. . .

1. Talk to someone of a dif race

2. Go to a holloween party

3. Talk to a coach or someone . . . (this might be a little difficult)

By the way, Utilityfielder, your posts have really been good. I really see you taking a moment to exhale and enjoy life and the people in your world. That's it!!! Way to go, dude!

Yes, Gary. Looking back over my post it sounded a bit harsh, and I didn't mean it that way. I was just givin' ya a razzin' I was happy to see ya at the party, though.

Don't worry about it. I prefer to meet new people in a setting with fewer people. And the lady that invited me does not know me that well.

I asked out the lady sitting next to me on the plane, sort of.

For once I was seated next to an attractive lady instead of a crotchety old man. So we chatted for a while, talked about restaurants, beaches San Diego and karaoke so I invited her to come laugh at me like the rest of the people do. She said no of course (I expected her to actually) but I asked more for the practice than anything. If she had said yes that would have just been icing on the practice cake.

It was the asking that was important. It's hard to get back into the swing of some things.

Go to Home Depot, Lowes, or other hardware store or garden center. The purpose of this assignment is for you to approach someone with assistance or with a question. Guys (especially, but not necessarily), hang around in an area you feel comfortable with, and when you see someone who looks a little "lost" or like they have a question, offer your assistance. Even if it's just to call an associate. Gals (especially, but not necessarily), go look for something you need, but something you need a little help in finding or choosing. Ask someone for assistance. The guy/gal thing is offered just as a guide. Go do what you feel comfortable in doing.

Mission Accomplished well sort of (again).

I went to Staples to make some copies. I am embarassed to admit that I had to ask for help related to that. Well related to the credit card machine. All the self serve copiers have creidt card machines attached to them now and I needed a receipt but couldn't figure out where to get that and had to ask. Oh that is at the self serve receipt kiosk.

Hey, I need someone to give me a challenge.

My "social calendar" has just been planned for me, and I have lots of Christmas activities over the next six weeks (dinners, parades, and other community events, as well as church events.)

Of course, these challenges will be for all of us, not just me.

So those of you done with your other challenges, let's hear 'em, along with some new challenges.

Mission Accomplished!!!

Went to a halloween party. It was really fun. I got asked out by two guys. Both of which were not christians but they were very cool about it. One was very low-key and warm, very affirming sweet guy. The other was a little obnoxious. Incidentally, the sweet affirming guy was of a different race--I think Hispanic.

I must admit, I've had difficulty talking to a coach. Or finding one. Unless I just show up at a high school or something. Maybe I'll take a specific trip to my alma mater and chat up an assistant coach.

John_O, Goodstuff! Same for there trainfan! You're gonna find Mrs. Trainfan before you know it . . . should we call her Mrs. Caboose? LOL

Grace N. Mercy, Here's a Mission for You . . . I mean for everyone.

Your Mission should you choose to accept it: Get into a conversation that's already started without you.
