Do I have too?

Ah I see.......the title is mission possible........didn't it say mission impossible before?

Trainfan........mission possible is even better since we know all things are possible in the Lord.

I completed both missions......

I talked to five new people........which I admit is very easy for me.......

But what is not easy for me is praying for someone, out loud with them standing there, that I don't know.

As I was outside at lunch I asked God to open my eyes to a prayer need and give me the courage to approach the person.

I was sitting at a table when I saw a woman I know of but don't know.......I know she is expecting.

I asked God if I should pray for her and though he didn't say no or yes (I think he was waiting to see what I would do) I decided to approach her.

She was sitting with three other women.

As I was walking over I was so nervous, my stomach full of butterflies, and didn't think I would do it........I said Lord if you want me to do this have my mouth speak before my mind can stop it.

One of the ladies I know said hi and if I was going to join them......

I opened my mouth.......and what came out......

"No I am getting ready to head back to work but I did have something I wanted to ask ***. I was sitting over there and as I looked over at you I felt I wanted to pray for you. Do you mind if I do.

She said no go ahead.

I prayed for her and the baby........I don't know what I said, I was too nervous, but I know God spoke to her......I could see it in her eyes.

After I was done praying I smiled, said goodbye to the women, and came back to work.........

The thing is Craig within myself it is impossible.....but God he makes it possible...........

AND when it is something he does.......when it is not about us......wow does it uplift you.......

You don't just get the "ok I have done that, glad it is over" feeling.........but

You get this excitement.........wow Lord I can't wait to do that again......who can I pray for next LOL

Your mission should you choose to accept it is to talk to someone standing near you in line somewhere: grocery store, bank, anywhere is acceptable. Just say something more than hi.

Your mission is to talk to five (5) new people before Sunday July 6th 2008 (no weasel room!)

You must talk to them first. You must smile and make eye contact.

This can be as simple as looking someone in the eyes at the store and saying "Hi". Anything you get after that is bonus (but you can't count it toward future missions ).

Ooh, sounds like a challenge I'll accept!! But to be honest, when I first read it, I thought "Only five days?? He's asking too much!!" Then I realized there will be plenty of people out & about on the fourth of July. But to be on the safe side, I have a list of places I can go between now and Sunday.

How is this a mission impossible? It is way too easy............Harder for me would be to not smile and say Hi to everyone I meet LOL

Three people already done.........I am sure the last two will be completed by the end of the day......

Joy, read John_O's whole post. This is the first of a series of missions possibles. Just b/c it is easy for you it is not easy for everyone. I'll accept the John_O's mission only I will try to do it outside my own store as that is where I have a harder time. It would be easy for me to complete in my store where I am in my comfort zone.

So true I was in 3 stores today and started a conversation with at least 5 people....probably more. Starting a conversation is easy for me. I just need to learn not to freak out when a guy comes up and starts one with me. My reactions are really starting to worry me.

I am well on my way!! This afternoon after work, I went to the grocery store and met a guy named Tom. I found out he is a newlywed of 54 years and that he is now the cook... he loves to cook. John, you'll like this... he's making a Cabbage/Kielbasa dish. He's Polish!

my mom can go right up to people and say the most weirdest things.......lol Ofcourse i'm hovering in the background and sometimes get pulled into these conversations......but, for me, i'm usually thinking people like to be left alone......though, EVERYTIME i am with my mother, that hypothesis alwayz gets challenged!

Well, we were standing in the checkout counter and I said Hi and he said hi, introduced himself, and shook my hand. Said it wasn't every day he gets to see a pretty lady! I told him I was glad to have made his day. Then he just started talking and we took it from there.

Yeah, I guess I make the assumption people like to be left alone because honestly, most of the time when I'm in the grocery store or running an errand, I like to do it by myself. But that's not always the case. We shouldn't be afraid to just go up to someone and smile. My mom and I are soooooooo different in our relating styles so I had to find my own.

How very cool!

I'm a real Polack now. I'm the proud owner of an accordian!

OK Next phase of the mission.

Still five people. You must smile, you must look them in the eye, you must find out their name Need to do it by end of the day 7/11. (And reading the nametag of the person working at 7-11 doesn't count)

Since I hardly get anywhere beyond my own store this is going to take longer than I thought. But I intend to do John_O's missions anyway.

Oh please... don't play the Chicken Dance with that accordian!!!

Ok, so I didn't make the five people limit, but I did meet two new people... the gentleman described above and a person introduced to me by Lisa.

I can't say that I'll make five a week because of my school schedule, but I'm going to try anyway.

Sorry for my tardiness everyone.

I fulfille dmy mission.

Here's the new one:

You must talk to someone, smile make eye contact, find out their name and find out something about them. Favorite color, if they have kids, what they do for a living, etc. Your goal is to find one piece of info about them, FROM THEM, while you are talking. It can be as simple as what they are doing this weekend or how they cook that roast they are buying. But you have to ask about it.

(Choose your item based on the circumstances. if you see them in the grocery line with 5 cases of some beverage for example, "having a party this weekend or just really thirsty?")

You have until Sunday night.

I'll most probably be out of touch all next week (unless the campground has internet)

I have a new mission, for those who choose to accept it.

This week you will likely be out and about in the stores gathering goodies for your Thanksgiving dinner, helping feed the homeless or other missions project, or beginning your Christmas shopping. So, as you're out and about, look for five people who are alone and greet them with a warm smile and simple conversation. Your goal is to share the love of Christ with someone who may be hurting.

I accept your challenge!!

And my heart was very prepared this weekend through a sermon titled "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men" ... speaking about the harvest being so big and the laborers few. God is looking for people to do the job, and not necessarily those who have degrees and money and prestige. Oh no! He is looking for just regular, ordinary people to go out and do His will.

Exactly! He calls everyone... no degree or money required.

Ok. Let's do this for a few weeks, because I often read that it takes about 3 weeks for a new thing to be a habit. So, after a few weeks, it won't be something we'll be doing as a challenge, but as a new habit...for Christ.

I'm pretty in tune with people that are alone and hurting. I think this is my mission in life, esp with the elderly and the homeless. Where i live, there's plenty of opportunity for this because i live in a quieter neighborhood where there's a lot of seniors and there's a lot of senior housings. Even our condo block has 50% senior citizen and I often run into them when I'm running or biking. The way their eyes light up when someone says hello to them...it's very sad at times, but it's also makes me happy to be able to bring a little joy in their lives. Sometimes, a little smile does so much to them. I guess it makes them feel a little less like their alone, even for a few minutes.

Good challenge, Gracie.
