The Lodger Superb atmosphere in a strongly sanitized Jack the Ripper story.

One of my favorites is Rebecca. Someone else mentioned Shop Around the Corner, and I love that movie too. It seems to be a lesser-known one of Jimmy Stewart. I love many James Cagney movies too - White Heat, The Strawberry Blonde, and Angels With Dirty Faces are some of his best, in my opinion.

Paper Moon was good! I haven't seen it in a long time!

Are we still talking about black and white movies or just movies in general?

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein

Another favorite black and white movie of mine is The Elephant Man. I was not thinking about it, because it is from 1980, but it was purposely made in black and white.

I can't remember who starred in it off hand, but that was Hitchcock's first movie and (I think) his best!

Joan Fontaine was the new wife. Can't remember who was the husband.

I've always been eh about it myself. It was not Hitchcock's first film but it was Joan Fontaine's.

Oh, I must've gotten my facts mixed up. I thought it was Hitch's first. Sorry about that.

In theory, we're still talking about B&W movies, but we get the odd colour post.

Rebecca is one of my all-time favorites. It was Hitchcock's first American movie, i.e. the first one he made when he came to the U.S. It stars Joan Fontaine and a dashing Laurence Olivier as Maximilian deWinter. And Judith Anderson as scary Mrs. Danvers. That lady gives me the creeps!

Five pages of this thread and nobody has mentioned

THE THIRD MAN ?!?

Sing along:

da-da-da, da-da-da-dum,
da-da-da-da-da, da-da-da-da-da-da,
dum-de-dum-de-dum"
