Regarding the iron ... my midwives always told me the most easily absorbed iron is ferrous fumerate.

We keep a basket of supplies there in the bedroom for easy changes....it and the bassinette sitting next to the bed are the only baby items allowed in my room (I like having a baby free space).
The items I keep in our basket for little ones are...
*diapers
*wipes
*powder (we don't use baby powder, but I keep corn starch in there for rashes)
*diaper rash cream (depending on the baby....some of ours had sensitivities to creams)
*a couple of onesies or sleepers (esp good for blowouts)
*pair or two of socks (in case baby gets cold feet in the middle of the night)
*a few receiving blankets (to change diapers on so that any dirty diapers don't get the sheet all messy then that needing to be changed)
I usually keep the basket beside the bed...easy reach. Hubby usually is on the side of the bed with the baby bassinet (cause it's always just worked out that way...not intentional). Baby wakes, he gets baby and hands them off (or changes them himself). I usually change there on the bed...just sit up and reach the basket for what I need. Then nurse them back to sleep laying down, and hubby (sometime after I and baby are back to sleep) puts baby back in their bed if necessary.
Doublers never worked enough to keep my kids happy or from leaking at night. So that will depend on the baby.

Nathan usually gets up to bring Jacob to me, he often doesn't even remember that he's done it, it's so easy for him to fall back asleep. Then I bring him back when I'm done.
This is happening less often as he is occasionally sleeping straight through the night now.

I have an appt with my obgyn tomorrow. She isn't charging me, thank God! I am going to see if I need stitches since they came loose.

Hmm. My stitches came loose, or didn't work properly and I don't think I would *ever* have that area redone.

I cannot personally imagine any scenario under the sun (or where the sun doesn't shine!) where it would warrant/be worth being re-cut and re-stitched.

Two of my stitches actually came out too, and I did heal unevenly - but all that did was give me a slightly wonky scar which was slightly raised, but it went down eventually, just took a little longer.

As someone who had this done (and definitely NOT by choice) I can definitely fill you in on one scenario ... but I'll be kind and put it in white so as not to gross out the easy-queasy people. It happened when I had my second child (my first son)
I ended up delivering at a teaching hospital, and one of the residents delivered Jacob, instead of my usual OB. However, it was almost time for his dinner break, and the birth of my child was greatly messing up his plans. Now, it is in my record that I didn't tear nor did I receive an episiotomy. BUT -- the resident was so flippin eager to get to his dinner, that as soon as he yanked the placenta out of me, he instantly stitched me up rather than waiting for the rest of the clots to pass naturally. However, he stitched me up so tight that there wasn't even a normal sized hole for peeing! I was released the next day, and came home (that hospital was an hour away). I had a lot of burning and a really hard time urinating, but I figured it was just from the stress of birth. After a couple of days like this I ended up doubled over in pain. Dh took me into the local hospital where they examined me and found out I had been stitched too much (and had contracted a UTI because of the related complications). The ER doc had to freeze me, cut all the stitches, and restitch to a normal size.
That whole labour, delivery, and follow up was the worst care I've ever received related to a birth ... and by far the most painful!

Thanks ladies! I'm going to call my OB's office in the morning. We had a really rough day. DH is sick and is a Grumpasaurex Rex. DD is teething AND going through a massive separation anxiety phase and ONLY wants DH. She clings to him all day and screams if he puts her down for even a second. This means that he's not really getting work done and he's supposed to be working from home this week which is making him extra grumpy. It has also meant that DD has been screaming A LOT today.
DS1 still has a really bad ear infection (had a recheck today) which is draining into his sinuses (which are now packed) and his chest giving him a nasty rough cough. They've given him a new antibiotic, a much stronger one, and instructions to continue to do the saline nose flushes. He's hyper-emotional (more than usual) and you have to scream at him for him to hear it so that's just not a happy thing. He has never had an ear infection before this one (he's 4) so it's really frustrating that this has been going on for so long.
I was hit hard by the baby blues this morning. I honestly thought I was going to skip them because with my first two the blues hit so early, today is day 9 and BAM! Hit outta nowhere! And I started having nipple blanching today. It's really, really painful.
Gideon is doing the best out of all of us, had a weight check today and is up to 9lb 12 oz (he was 9lb 5oz on Friday)! I almost cried I was so happy to hear that. Any mom who has had problems with low milk supply knows what it's like to get news about weight gain! Yoohoo!
Please pray for all of us!
Now, I do have a praise - and a big one! Gideon only woke up at 1:30 and 6:30 last night! Please, Lord, let him keep that up!

We use cloth diapers on our 7 week old. He gets changed at night when he wakes up, every time. He used to wake up at about 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. every night and would get changed at those times, in his room which is where the supplies are...and then I would feed him and he'd go back to sleep.
Now he's 7 weeks old and often sleeps right through the 2 a.m. time slot.
Pretty much every day, though, between 7 and 8 a.m. he wakes up needing to be changed, not fed. He has already eaten sometime around 5 a.m. (and changed then), but you could set a watch by him needing that morning-time change between 7 and 8 a.m. My husband does that diaper change and then brings the baby to me in bed and Adam sleeps with me for an hour or two. He sleeps in his crib all night so when he wakes up for that 7 a.m. "change me" time I let him sleep with me for a little "snuggle with mom" time. It's kind of sweet.
