Amber, I had on & off bleeding for 6 weeks. It would die down to nothing, then get a little heavier. My OB said some women take 3 months to stop bleeding completely. As long as it's not clotty or heavy like a period, you are probably fine. It is annoying bleeding though!! I bought Cottonelle wipes to use during that time so I won't feel icky for 6 weeks strait.

just wanted to say YUP...and every baby is different...not just every person. My fourth I know I was still bleeding on and off when I went back to Germany, which meant he was over 3 months old. We also waited that long (because we weren't together) and even at that point it was too soon. So sometimes it's just a waiting and relaxing game, even if you have had others before that you could get back into the swing of things faster with. Of course that time it could have been also that we didn't have any relations for a whole years because of him being deployed...when he was on leave we were at my moms staying in her living room....so even before Jack was born nothing was happening. So maybe it was just going so long that made it very uncomfortable...but I know for several months after we got back to Germany things were still very painful. (ok...that is the most intimate information I have ever shared on here....lol)

I think the basic consensus is that every woman is different. As long as heavy or red bleeding has stopped - resume whenever you are ready to! (Unless against dr's specific orders of course).

LaurainAL -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (1/30/2008 7:58:30 AM)

My son is 10 months old and I am still having incontinence issues despite being vigilant with my kegals.

Yesterday, I went back to my step areobics class for the first time in over a year and I soaked through a pad. I emptied my bladder right before the class started.

How long is this going to last????? [&:]

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (1/30/2008 11:26:59 AM)

Laura....I would call your GYN and see if you need to be seen. At 10mo pp you shouldn't be having that much trouble. Maybe they need to make sure things are ok up in there. Is there any pain?

Yes. I have an aching pain frequently.

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (1/30/2008 11:34:46 AM)

I would suggest getting checked out. You should be coming up in the next few months for your yearly checkup anyway, so just go get it a little earlier.

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (1/30/2008 1:23:17 PM)

Ugh - hemorrhoids from pushing that big baby out. [:@][&:][:'(]

They are definitely getting better though thankfully. I asked the public health nurse if this meant I would have trouble with hemorrhoids from now on - she said that because I got them from the delivery (and not during pregnancy), that it likely wouldn't be a problem. Is that consistent from what you all have heard?

Also - I'm so tired of stinking all the time. Part of it that I'm still losing a few clots here and there. I actually pulled out a 4" long piece of placenta the other night. Gross! I called my dr, and she said to definitely monitor everything very closely and to call her if my bleeding increases at all - but it's not increasing, it's definitely continuing to get less and less - but I still keep losing the occasional clots - which stink and which is why I stink too I guess.

Sigh - way too much stuff going on down there.

PrincessDonna -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (1/30/2008 1:50:05 PM)

I have hemorrhoids already this time. They seem to come earlier and earlier in each pregnancy, but I only have them in pregnancy. I assume when we're done having babies they won't be an issue anymore. If you've never had them before, I think they should go away pretty quickly and not come back.

Hope your grossness passes soon. I hate that part of having a baby. I can shower twice a day and still feel filthy.[:'(]

Laura, I'd definitely talk to your doctor. I have never had incontinence issues, but that does not sound right to me. Was his delivery traumatic?

Krislynx -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/1/2008 10:03:50 PM)

Bug is 7.5 months old and I have been having my period regularly since he was about 10 weeks. They are extremely heavy, much heavier then they ever were before I was pregnant. They are about the same length and the cramps are as much fun as ever, just much heavier flow. It is also very heavy for most of my period, not just a day or two in the middle. Any one else have this? I need to make an appt. for my annual exam soon (fun, fun) since I actually have gone 2 years already due to when the pregnancy fell, is this something I should ask about? Thanks for any advice.

Kris

clag4christ -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/1/2008 10:18:40 PM)

My periods after I had Hannah got longer and the flow was heavier than I'd had before her. Before her they were 3-5 days with the heaviest flow being medium in 'consistency'. After I had her they were 5-7 days with the heaviest flow being heavy consistency. I've not gotten my cycle back since Jael but I think it's normal for it to change after every pregnancy. My good friend has 6 children and she told me hers changed after *every single child*.

When my sister was still pregnant, she was all excited about not getting hemorrhoids. I told her to wait until after she had the baby to get excited. I didn't get any until after I had Akeelah and for a few months I kept getting them but it seems to have stopped. I had never had them before and wasn't impressed when they kept showing up after the birth!

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/2/2008 10:04:14 AM)

Yeah I never had H until after my 4th baby (about a week after I think....it wasn't right after)!!!! (In fact, that's the original reason I started the first post pardum thread....even though I had had several babies I had no idea how to deal with that one!!!!)

Um...are you talking about when you were still in the hospital, Tammy? The placenta is supposed to be completely gone once you're ready to go home. Actually it's supposed to come out in one piece and if it doesn't after delivery they do a D&C because any left over placenta can make a woman very very sick.

nicole6598 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/2/2008 11:27:50 PM)

Yeah Tammy, I hope they checked you out with the placenta thing!!

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/3/2008 12:12:05 AM)

No, this was after I was home from the hospital. I'm assuming it was placenta, because it sure looked like it - but I've never touched it before. It was really big though and looked like it was. Like I said, I called my dr and she was concerned, but after asking me about my bleeding (what color it was and if there was more/less) she said to keep monitoring it really closely and phone her ASAP if the bleeding increased at all, or if there was more coming out. She was surprised because she had checked the placenta over and she was sure she got it all out. She said sometimes there can be an extra lobe or something and the body just gets rid of it.

The bleeding has continued to get less over all. I'll have a couple hours of nothing, then some of light bleeding - but nothing heavy at all anymore. And it's not bright red.

clag4christ -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/4/2008 4:44:14 PM)

I don't think it was placenta. The doctors are always very careful to check the placenta after birth to make sure that it is all intact. If it's not they'll go in and sweep the uterus to get it all out. I'm thinking that it was probably just a large clot from your body healing. If it was placenta then you could get very sick...so monitor your symptoms closely, please.

peculiar_lady2 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/4/2008 5:41:40 PM)

yeah I doubt it is actually the placenta itself....it's probably just shedding of the uteran walls that built up when you were pregnant. Sometimes that can get kind of gross when you haven't had a period to shed that stuff for a while.

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/4/2008 10:56:27 PM)

Is it normal for the bleeding to completely stop for several hours, and then have a gush big enough that you can feel it gushing?

clag4christ -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/4/2008 10:59:08 PM)

Yes. Did you do too much today? When I would do too much is when that would happen. You're like 2 weeks ppd right? You shouldn't be lifting anything heavier than your wee baby boy...nothing heavier!

BlessedMamaofmany -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/5/2008 7:27:51 AM)

sounds okay to me Tammy, remember as long as it's not bright red...
I second Kim. Maybe you did too much? Or maybe you rested for a long time and then got active?
Sandy

What colour was it, and were there any clots in it (if so what size)?

Did it soak through more than one pad in an hour? If so, you need to tell your doc.

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/5/2008 12:09:00 PM)

There was one small clot. I would say it was dark red - definitely not bright. It half filled the pad with the gush, and then it stopped again. That's what it seems to be doing lately, nothing and then a gush and then nothing again. It usually happens during or shortly after nursing (I'm guessing from uterus contractions?).

Royal.Fortress -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/5/2008 12:19:51 PM)

That would be my guess too, Tammy!

nicole6598 -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/6/2008 5:22:12 PM)

yeah mine did that with nath tammy if he had a huge feed or if i moved around a bit too much, gusssssshhhhh!!!!!

TammyIsBlessed -> RE: Post Pardum Talk...(cont'd) (2/6/2008 5:38:25 PM)

Everything's healing nicely down below. I think the hemmorrhoids are totally gone. But now I'm starting to get a bit rashy - I guess from everything still being sensitive and then rubbing against the pads. I remember having this problem after Olivia too. Ugh. I guess I'll just put some cornstartch on it. Any other ideas?
