Wow, I went running yesterday and only ran 1.8 miles (yes, I have my route all mapped out so I know exact numbers.LOL). From the very start I was dragging, my leg muscles had the lactic acid build-up very fast. The only thing I can think of is it was very warm yesterday, it hit 82 for a high and I ran in the late afternoon. I didn't think it'd be so bad, it's spring, but it was still hot (without that dreaded humidity thank goodness!). I don't think I was used to running in the heat at all and that's what sapped my energy.

I will be heading to the gym, the wind and rain is terrible! It is going from 40 to 70 every few days. I am still considering getting the bike, I have to find a store to get fitted because my legs are so short. They had some schwinn bikes at costco but they might be gone already. I only ran once in the humidity, its tough and dangerous for some people.. to bad we can't get the perfect weather.

On Saturday afternoon, I went for my first run since October. I was sitting on the love seat at my f-i-l's place, dozing around while we were watching the NCIS Marathon on USA Network, when I just decided to get up off my ample duff and do something. I put on my sweats and my running shoes and headed out the door. It was a lovely spring afternoon; temps in the 50's, sunny, but a bit breezy. I went down two back streets until I hit the main highway, then stayed on the sidewalk until I reached our church. I grabbed a drink of cold water, sat for about 5 minutes, then headed for the house. It was a struggle to finish the route, but I did it. I haven't done my GPS survey on the route yet, but I'm guessing that I put in 3 miles. I'll also have to admit that it was a run/walk mixture, but at least I was doing something. I knew that our Couch 2 5K group is starting up again this Tuesday and I wanted to at least be partially ready for it, but I think that I overdid it a little bit. I'm stiff and sore, but not too much. I'll be OK by tomorrow evening. BTW, Kristin, thanks for telling us about putting "Sing, Sing, Sing" in your mp3 player. I hadn't even thought about hitting the big band stuff for some running music. When I get the chance to hit up Rhapsody again, I'll add some of those classic tunes. They can definitely get your body motivated to move, can't they! Duane

<sigh> I'm cleared to run May 1. I was faithfully going to the gym until 10 days ago when I got a sinus infection. I'm having a lot of trouble getting rid of it. I've already been to the doctor and been through a round of antibiotics. I'm thinking about calling and seeing if I need more medication. I don't know. Anyway, in the meanwhile, I ordered The Stick and I've been using it on my jacked up muscles. I'll let you know how it works.

Our first group workout was Tuesday evening, and BOY! did I goof up royally. Since I had done that (ill-advised) 3 miles on Saturday and survived, I didn't think I'd have any problems, despite being a little stiff. WRONG-O!!!! We're using a slightly modified Couch 2 5K program, which called for me to walk briskly for 5 minutes to warm-up, then alternate running for 60 seconds and walking for 90 seconds until a total of 20 minutes was reached. But not "the brain-child!" No-o-o-o!! I ran for 3 minutes, then walked for 90 seconds, then repeated that until I'd gone a total of 21 minutes. By the time I was through, I had this pain in my right butt cheek (very near the ball of my hip) which was driving me batty!! In fact, it's still sore today. I'm going to try and follow the plan this evening, but I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do. Then again, maybe it will work itself out while I'm running - I hope. Duane

I ran 30 minutes yesterday in shorts and a tshirt. Yeay I hate cold weather. Windy though almost lost my hat. Duane, you'll get there just take it easy. I run slow but I usually get my time in.. not starting at full speed and dying in a few minutes like most people at the gym.

It's pretty hot today, in the 80s, so I'm debating whether to run or not. I went Wed, it was a very nice day on Wed.

It depends on the humidity. It's almost 75 here but I might run. It's not humid yet.

ORIGINAL: Miss Giggles It depends on the humidity. It's almost 75 here but I might run. It's not humid yet. Yah, you're right, but last Friday when I went running I was so unused to the hotter weather (although it wasn't humid since it's still technically spring) that I could only run half of my usual route. I am still debating...hehe. I may just run on the treadmill. phosadaud, Your story of the cops in the way of your run reminds me of mine. A couple times on my run (maybe twice) I have rounded a corner and almost ran into a cop car sitting on the actual sidewalk. There are hedges that line the sidewalk and corner so you can't see anything around before you come upon it. I guess it must be a good speedtrap hiding spot because I've seen 'em there a few times. I wanted to start shaking my fist at the cop, and was mentally grumbling about it.LOL. I didn't of course, say anything cuz it would have been a waste of breathe and I didn't want to stop and plus, ack he is doing a good thing. Trying to catch those speeders around here which annoy me too.

I'm only afraid of snakes if they look like they are going to start coming at me. Luckily there aren't a lot of snakes here. Oh in the desert (like arizona) they scare me because you can hear them rattling but you usually don't see them. No running today. Got a mountain bike so I will play around with it this weekend. Got to get used to it. I feel like a klutz. Beautiful Day today though, tomorrow I am not sure since the weather reports are still wrong.
