Ok I might be wrong. I looked on amazon and I guess you can get a sensor for it.. the garmin website wasn't real clear on it.

A lot cheaper on amazon. Got to save those quarters

I have the Garmin 301. I use it for bicycling and running. It also has "other". It gives you a menu as to which sport you want. You can enter heart rate zones for each sport. There are some bicycle specific garmins to figure cadence. For what I do time, distance, pace and heart rate is plenty of data!

I'm just now returning to run post stress fracture in my foot. It's going slowly. I'm not putting too much into running right now, though. My son and I are training for a 2 day 210mile bike ride Mother's Day weekend. Today we rode 52m. Tomorrow will be 70m.

Wow I can't imagine biking that far.

Ran 30 minutes on the bike path by the lake. They put down fertilizer or something, because there wasn't a pleasant odor.

Another place to check out that often has great prices is "www.campmor.com". I got a super deal on my GPS watch there (not a garmin but good enough... for now... ).

Speaking of unpleasant odors, when I run the "big" loop run, the road goes over a small canyon with lots of brush, trees and a small canal running at the bottom. I don't know what's down there, but something reeks to high heaven... . I know there are a lot of skunks in the area, but this almost smells worse...

I don't find skunk smell all that offensive. Not that I want to be skunked or anything, but smelling it in the air isn't that bad.

On usual bike route takes us past two sheep farms and a pig farm. Yah, pretty, well, odiferous! But, I figure we like pork and wool sweaters and we all know where that comes from... Plus, I would MUCH rather smell manure than cigarette smoke!

I'm lucky - I grew up on a farm with cattle so manure doesn't bother me in the least!

I'm not sure how far I ran today because I had to completely change my route (they were digging up the path I usually run on). This of course took me by a house with a large dog that was totally unrestrained. He lunges at me barking and snarling as I jog by and all I could do was pray he didn't drop the tennis ball out of his mouth or I knew I was in big trouble. Fortunately, the tennis ball apparently was tastier to him than my leg so I was ok, just a little scared!

That is scary! Fortunately hasn't happened to me yet.

Rode the bike today. Next time I will take it to the bike path.

My dad should be here soon to help me with my bike. I got my front tire fixed, but there is one bolt on my tire that I just can't get off... And I have to get it off if I want to fix my back tire...

Due to some time constraints, I had to settle for the Middle School track instead of the rubberized HS track. Overall, I'd have to say that it wasn't too bad . . . except for the "break" I had to take 1/3 of the way through my workout. When I returned to the track, I finished my intervals withour any trouble. That made me feel good. I'm just hoping that my stamina returns quickly, because the schedule gets a bit tougher this week. I'm to do 2 repetitions of the following: Jog 90 seconds, walk 90 seconds, jog 3 minutes, then walk 3 minutes. This is where the "fun" stops and the serious work begins. I keep you guys posted on how it goes. See ya'!

Good luck! Just keep your eyes focused on your goal! You'll be there before you know it!

I ran another very slow 3 miles today. It was much warmer this morning (in the low 50s) and I actually had to toss my jacket about a mile into the run (I was doing loops around my development). It's amazing how different it feels to run in shorts & a tshirt after having to bundle up all winter long!

Well, it's back to 'semi-winter' weather around here. Over the weekend, the temps were very nice. On Saturday when I went for my run, the temps were in the mid to upper 70's, and even after a passing shower, it was still in the low 70's. On Sunday, then morning dawned sort of cool, but it still got up into the upper 60's to near 70 and was really comfortable. Today, however, it's cool and damp after the rain last night, and I don't think it's even gotten up to 50 degrees. That means I need to break out the long sleeve running top and my sweats, plus the trail shoes from last season. I'm not getting my new shoes muddy.

It's cooler here too - at least it's not freezing like last week though... Spring is just taking her sweet time getting here!

I had the worst time getting up this morning but at least it was my lighter day. I ran 1.5 miles then did some upper body weights.

There was SNOW on my van this morning! Come on--it's almost May already!!!

I had a terrible swim first thing. Quick change, then for a run to blow off some steam. I've just started back after the stress fracture in my foot. Running is coming hard. Decent numbers, though. 3.6m at a 8:31pace.

Tomorrow's a swim then ride. I replaced the rear tire this evening. I had a slow leak over the weekend. Only to discover the front tire is in just as bad of condition. Will have to go back and get another tire. Son and I will be doing an 80m/80m tour over the weekend.

Boy! Was it cold last evening! The temperature was (supposedly) 50, but with the way the wind was blowing it felt more like 40. I wore my sweats and a long-sleeved top, so it wasn't too bad, but if it had gotten any cooler I would've thrown my warm-up jacket on. As it stands, I felt pretty good after this run; in fact, I even threw in another 90 second run interval just to be able to sprint my way into the bleachers where my jacket and G2 were waiting. I'm really pleased with my progress so far. I guess my muscles are re-awakening to the sensations of running, because it's getting easier to recover afterwards. And that is a huge blessing! See y'all later!

Watch the Gatorade if you are counting calories, its not needed for a 30 minute run.

But you are doing great.

I didn't run yesterday I spent too long at the apple store trying to get them to replace my Nike+ sensor under warranty.

Which they will.. mine aren't lasting that long compared to others..

I'm not counting calories, but I am doing WeightWatchers and if I limit myself to 8oz. of G2 I'm OK. Water is good for me most of the time, but when I'm running/walking I'd rather drink Gatorade. And since I'm daibetic, this new G2 is even nicer to drink since it's lower in sugar than the original formula. Thanks for the encouragement, MissGiggles!

Ok.. the g2 is lower cal I forgot.

It was just a comment in general that some people drink a lot of gatorade because they think its a better choice than water or they drink more gatorade at the gym then they burned off walking slowly on the treadmill on their cell phone. LOL

I ran another slow 3 miles this morning. I was just dragging. I haven't been sleeping the best and that's not helping... It was pretty chilly - I had to put my hat and gloves back on. Where, oh where, is spring....

This morning I did a quick 23m bike ride. It was only in the 40's when I left! It warmed up quickly, though. Got home, dropped off the bike, quick wardrobe change (removed tights, fleece and jacket), then out for a run. Run felt really hard. Once I looked at the data, I realized why--3.8m, 31:32, 8:32pace. That's my half marathon pace!

Well, I'm cleared to run today. YAY!
But the wind is blowing 40 mph. boo
But I've run in worse and it was no big deal. YAY!
But there's dirt in the air and I already have a sinus headache and itchy, watery eyes. boo
But it's been so long the adrenaline might keep me going. YAY!
But it's supposed to start storming by the time I get off work. boo

I'll let you guys know what happens.

It's going to be a wonderful evening for a run: Sunny with temps in the mid to upper 70's, very little humidity, and a gentle breeze to take the edge off. Oh how I love springtime!
