Last night's 2.5 mile run really made me tired. I guess that's what I get for missing a workout over the weekend. My leader/trainer, Matt, said in cases like that I should just forgive myself and go on. I said "I've already forgiven myself, Matt, but that still doesn't stop me from feeling bad about it." Today, I was so-o-o sore that I couldn't leave the office when I originally planned to. Instead, I had to take 2 Extra Strength Tylenol and sit there, doing paperwork for about an hour and a half, until the stiffness eased up enough. I sure hope that's not the case on Friday morning after tomorrow's run of the same distance. It may be better, because I'm doing it mid-morning; my f-i-l has an early morning dr. appt., and Mom has an afternoon one, so I'm taking the day off. Hopefully the timing will work out for everything I want to do.

Hi,
I'm new to the running thread
I was just curious where everyone runs. Track, treadmill, on streets, parks, etc.? I have been running lately on a 1 mile dirt track. It has been good in some ways because it is easier on my back and knees than concrete or pavement. But at the same time, I am starting to get really bored with it.
Just curious where everyone else runs.

I run around my neighborhood, which is a combination of asphalt, concrete and brick streets. There are two parks nearby as well and sometimes I run through the grass.

I was all set to run this evening, but we have a 40 mph sustained wind and storm warnings. I'd hate to get caught away from home in a storm. I'm off early tomorrow and it's supposed to be nice, so I'm waiting until then.

Right now I am alternating between a bike path and a trail.

I only ran a mile today and walked the other, I cramped up. I think I need new shoes or a different kind too. I am going to take a week off running and focus on the biking and see what happens.

Plus I am still getting used to running in warm weather.

How many miles do you have on your shoes?

After getting fitted for new ones in February and running in them for awhile, I decided to try my old ones. I HATED THEM! And I used to love them! Now I dread if they ever stop making these shoes.

I have no idea, its not a lot though because the most I've ran is 9 miles a week and I haven't been that consistent.

probably 200, that seems pretty early for a pair of shoes though but its possible. Its probably the wrong type of shoe.

I run around my neighborhood, so I run on streets, sidewalks and bike paths.

Wouldn't hurt to try something different.

I went ahead and ran this evening, just a little over a mile. Can you say slow as molasses? At one point, I'm pretty sure I was on a treadmill...I was running hard, but not going anywhere.

I don't know how many miles I have. I have two pairs. One I use at the gym at work, and one I use at home. The one at the gym must have more than 250, give or take about 15 miles. I used to log the miles on my shoes but since I stopped training for the marathon, I stopped, but I can estimate them. I ran between 20-25 miles a week now. The other pair, I probably have about 150 but I can put another 300 on those. They are Saucony motion control shoes and very well cushioned. I don't run fast in them. They don't wear out as fast as the stability shoes ones.

WHere do i run. I run mostly on the treadmill during the day, and outside on paved road during the evening. Every once in a while, I try to run on trails but that's where I got injured, so I won't be doing much of that until I 'm all better.

Welcome alias007! Nice to meet you!

Right now I'm running exclusively on a track, either asphalt or rubberized, but I'm probably going to branch out and do some runs in a nearby cemetery (asphalt again). I need to get used to not going in circles, because the 5K I'm training for is on a main thoroughfare in our city. As for my shoes, they're a new pair of New Balance 858's and I've only had them for a bit over a month, so they're really low-mileage . . . Good grief! It sounds like I'm talking about a used car! Anyway, my shoes only have about 25-30 miles on them.

As for yesterday's run - it dodn't happen. My f-i-l's appointment lasted longer than expected, so we didn't get back home until almost noon. Mom was getting her hair fixed at 1:00, so I just grabbed a quick lunch and headed back to get her. After that, I took her to the doctor. Just before she came out, the doctor asked to speak to me. He told me that, due to the excessive amount of fluid in Mom's legs from her congestive heart failure, he felt it best that she be admitted to the hospital to get it drained. So I got her home to get some clothes packed, then took my wife and her Dad out for his physical therapy, then went back to Mom's and ferried her to the hospital. I waited as long as I could with her, then left to go retrieve Mary and Gene. Mom told me not to try and come back last night, and to just try and relax. And by the time all of this was done, it was far too late for me to go and do any running. I just pray that tomorrow isn't a washout since they're calling for the chance of a thunderstorm in the area, because I really need the stress relief, not to mention the mileage.

I'm glad you said this. My husband and I had a conversation last week about running in the cemetery. I think it would a nice run, and interesting. But we talked about whether it was disrespectful or not. You think not? What about the rest of you?

I've never had anyone of the staff say anything to me while doing it, and others have been walking their dogs in there for years. As for the dogs, the only thing they ask is that you clean up after any accidents. And as for being disrespectful, I don't consider it to be. MOF, I have used it as a place for my prayer time in the past, and I'll often stop by my grandparents graves, as well as my Dad's and my uncle's while I'm there.

I ran 7 miles in the rain today. This was my best run so far. I enjoyed every step of it.

Me personally, I would not run in a cemetery. I wouldn't feel comfortable because I think the families should be able to have their time without being interrupted by someone getting in their exercise time. There is a small one by me and there are a few kids that must be buried there because there are toys and stuff around the grave. The family is there a lot, so I respect that.

I ran 2 miles this morning. I had planned on running 3, but I started out with a much faster pace than I should have because I was thinking about everything but my pace. When I realized how fast I was going, I knew I'd be in agony if I ran the entire 3 miles and since I want to do a long bike ride tomorrow, I decided to just cut my run shorter.

As far as cemetaries, I think it would depend on the cemetary and the time of day.

I hope someone runs through my cemetery when I'm gone! But then again it is a great love of mine (running)... I don't know how a "normal" person would feel about it. I wouldn't have an issue at all with someone running through the cemetery where a family member of mine was either. Interesting question. I'll have to ask a non-runner.

The cemetery close to my house is really cool. There's actually two parts--the new part is across the street from the older, bigger part. There are graves that go back to the early 1800s and sometimes I drive through and look at them. There are also some old and HUGE crypts that belong to the wealthy families around here and there's a pond with an island and a bridge. I think it wouldn't hurt anthing to run around the old part, especially the rows in the far corner with the oldest tombstones. They probably don't get much visiting.

Wow, it has been at least a couple of years since I visited Crosswalk. I'm so happy that there is a running thread!

I've been sick/getting sick for a couple of months and I'm finally ready to get back into my happyhappyjoyjoy activity.
I've got my gear on, and instead of procrastinating (and not running) like I have done in the past couple of weeks,
I. Am. Going. To. Run.

Ok.
I will post when I've done it.

Bye for now.

I didn't run this morning - I took my longest bike ride yet - almost 13 miles. Unfortunately, I also had my first crash... I wish I could say it was something dramatic considering some of the roads I was riding on, but I was just being stupid and took a turn too fast and ran into a curb... flew over the handlebars and have some beautiful road rash now, some lovely bruises and a torn shirt, but I was able to get up, twist the handle bars back to their original position and keep riding... I'm really hoping no one saw me...

Wow 13 miles is great! I haven't ridden since last week. Glad you didn't get hurt.

Today is probably going to be a gym day. Its one of those days where it will suddenly start raining and then stop. Plus the outdoor pool is open so I can try to even out my "runners tan". I hate walking around with shirt and sock lines. Goodness.

I had my first crash too the other day and I have to say I'm quite proud of myself that I didn't die. It was a trail on a downhill landscape. The trail was not downhill; it was just slanted and I felt I was tipping to the right the whole time. THen I lost balance and crashed. I think it's things like this that makes you fall in love withe certain activities. It made me want to go out there more.

No running for me today. I did two hours of wall climbing and my arms feel like they're about to fall off. But I'm getting better in bouldering.

I was planning on riding again tomorrow, but I think I may run tomorrow and take a few days off from the bike... My left hand is bothering me more than I thought (I just finished mowing the lawn). It's nothing serious, but I think I banged it more than I thought when I landed... Plus I've got some pretty good road rash on it so it looks awful!

I must say that I love riding but not so much the crashing...

I've still been running, jsut not posting.

Shoes--I'm doing good to get 300m out of my shoes. Usually it's closer to 250, though. I rotate between 2 or 3 pairs. The running log I use tracks shoes, so with the click of the mouse, I know exactly how many miles each pair of shoes has!

Running surface--mostly roads. Although sometimes I do the bike path. That's reserved for "busy" times or when I'm running with someone. Women have been attacked on the bike path, so I don't consider it safe. Occasionally I will run on sidewalks. I did this morning because the road is too busy in that section. Usually avoid them because of curb-hopping. That's how I broke my foot three years ago.

I had a very bad run yesterday. I ended up doing the walk of shame back home. But, by walking home, I left myself the option of trying agian today.

Today's run was better. It's really gotten hot in the last couple days and I'm having trouble adjusting. I am back in the double digit club--10.29miles. Furthest since I broke my foot back in February. Pace was way off, though. I've been doing 8:45's but today only did 9:30. Whatever. Run is in the books.

THen I went out for a ride. Just because. No real goals, other than to just get out there and have fun. Managed 32miles in 1:56, 16.7mph average. Not bad. I'll take it.

I did the walk of shame thu cause I cramped up and I am not sure why.

So it was supposed to be 75-80 degrees today and sunny so I was going to swimming in the pool.

It is actually 63 degrees and I have no idea if it might rain. Huh. Trying to decide what I want to do (run, bike or go to the gym)
