Were you hydrated enough? I cramp up when I'm not.

did the walk of shame thu cause I cramped up and I am not sure why. So it was supposed to be 75-80 degrees today and sunny so I was going to swimming in the pool. Maybe you didn't stretch enough from your last run. I always feel like my calves are cramping when my legs are so tense and tired and overworked. I was going to do a longer run today (11+ miles) but I think I might have done only 9-9.5. It was so hot, and I was so tired from a few hours of bouldering yesterday, and having some kids over and they didn't sleep until 2 in the morning. My arms felt like lead from the climbing. It was the toughest run I've had so far this year; quite a change from my run in the rain last Friday. Oh well....I'll just rest and I'm really soooo tired.

I did 2.5 late Saturday afternoon (around 3:30-4:00 when I started) and got through it fairly well, although I was pretty tired. I did something to help keep me from getting too tired too quick; took the run in stages. Ran 3/4 mile, got a drink, repeated that twice, then finished the one remaining lap, before drinking the rest of the water on my 1/4 mile walkout. It helped me have enough energy to go to Wal-Mart for my wife and father-in-law afterwards, although I was dead on my feet when I got done. And Saturday's activity (the run & Wal-Mart, plus my hospital visit with Mom) enabled me to set a new daily record for my Steps Log. Previosly, it had been 16,743 on June 29th of last year, but now it is 17,473. I hope to someday get it up to 20,000 steps in a single day. Duane

Ouch!!! I'm tapering for my triathlon this coming weekend. I did a bike (15miles) and open water swim (30mins) today. However, I'm so chomping at the bit, wanting to RUN!

My group had to cancel its outdoor workout on Tuesday evening. There were some severe thunderstorms in the area, with considerable lightning flashes, so we decided to call it off. We'll go if there are only light showers, but T&L are sure signs that it's time to go back home. So I had to go to the therapy center where my f-i-l was, adn ask them for permission to use their treadmill. They told me that it wasn't a problem, so I climbed on and did 2.5 miles of a scheduled 2.75 - time was against me, so I cut it slightly short. Tonight is another 2-3/4 run, but it's 92 degrees right now and not looking like it will cool down a great deal before 6:00. I'm going to need to really keep myself hydrated tonight if I want to finish the run with a minimum of heat problems. Gotta get ready to go home, so I'll see y'all later! Duane

Last night was absolutely awful! I made it through the run, but I probably walked 3/4 of a mile out of the 2-3/4 I was scheduled for. The heat and humidity were dreadful, and I really labored through the whole thing. Checked my pulse at the end of the run when I sat down to rest and hydrate, and it was 140 bpm. That's almost to the max for my age (220 -49 = 171), but it felt a little uncomfortable for me. But things slowed down rather quickly after I drank my G2 , then got to my car and put the AC on. I felt the energy level picking up and the pulse slowing down as I drove, and by the time I got home I was back to a semblance of normalcy. I might try to do tomorrow's run in the cool of the morning, before Men's Prayer Breakfast. See y'all! Duane

I've taken a few days off from running, felt like something was tight and i was too tired to go to yoga High heat and humidity for the entire next week, so it may be some gym time unless i can go early in the morning or evening. I do want to hit the pool too.

It's still very cool in the NW. I ran 3 miles this morning. It was a bit windy, but at least it was cool.

I hope I can hit the pool soon too. The weather was very humid and hot today even tho windy and it rained heavily; but since I haven't been to the pool for 3 consecutive summers, it would be sinful not to enjoy a lil bit before I leave this place. Swimming tones up the muscles and it helps me to relax. I would have liked it if it were the sea, but we have no seaside here.
