I did a sprint triathlon over the weekend. Finished a disappointing 4th in my age group. I got sucked into the fast group in the swim and we ended up off course. We lost a lot of time there. I had a great bike and run, but wasn't able to make up enough time.

The only thing worse is waking up to a thunder and lightning storm because then you REALLY know you can't run... The wind has finally stopped though and the forecast is looking good, so I'm looking forward to a good run tomorrow...

I had a pretty good 3 miler last night. Did begin to die out at about 2.5 miles in - my afternoon Activia yogurt was wearing off. I knew that I should have eaten it on the way home instead of before 3 in the afternoon. Getting off at 4:00, then driving home and not running until 6:00 without any real food in me left me kinda "whisperin' in the wind." But I finished the distance, which is all that really matters. Here's a slightly funny note about my training schedule: As I was looking it over on my off PC yesterday morning, I noticed that there was something odd-looking about it. Finally, it hit me - there was an entire week missing! It had this week on it, then it skipped to the week of the 23rd, which left me hanging on what to do. I inserted another row to the graph, then duplicated the info from this week. When I showed Matt, he told me that this week should be the peak training week, and that I should back off 1/4 mile each week until the 5K. And on Tuesday before the race, I'm to only run 2 miles. That's to make sure that I'm fresh for that night. I hope that we don't have anymore storms between now and then, because I only want outdoor workouts to prepare with - not treadmill mileage. KWIM? Not a problem! I had an even harder time crawling out of bed this morning but I finally got up and ran 2 miles. I skipped my other workout stuff but since I worked out hard yesterday, I figured that was ok...

I think our temps have dropped enough for a comfortable run this evening. We're going out of town this weekend for a family reunion with a bunch of people I've never met before. (Only married a year.) I think I'd like to take my running shoes because I know I'll need to get away and regroup, but is that rude? Do you run when you go out of town? Is there something to say to not ruffle feathers?

I don't think it's rude at all. I don't go out of town much, but I bring my running stuff when I do because I don't want to go too long between runs. People know that I love my runs, so it would be no big deal to take a few minutes out of the day to get my heart pumping and lung burning.

Take your running stuff!!! When my Grandpa died, I took my running stuff. I had gotten the call earlier in the day that he wasn't doing well, so I packed my bags--one every day stuff, the other my gym bag. Every morning while I was up there, I'd go for a run early in the morning. When I go to visit Grandma, I always take my stuff, and run early in the day. I did a bike/run workout this mornig. My son is getting quite good on the bike and I'm having to work to stay with him! Outbound, we averaged 18mph. I run further than he did, though!

It was really hot and humid yesterday, but then it cooled down and got a bit cloudy. That had me concerned that a T-storm might blow through the area, so I just went to the local "Y" and ran for 30 minutes on the treadmill. I know it's not perfect, but the time was important for me. I stopped at 15:00 long enough to hop off for a drink at the fountain, then it was right back on for the remainder of the time. That point right there was enough to encourage me as I move towards the race in less than 3 weeks. Duane

I haven't run much at all this week. In total, it's only been 12 miles since Monday and I don't know if I'll run today. My knees are hurting from increasing my speed. Since I started running again two months ago, I've gone from 15 min mile to 10.50 min mile. My goal is to bring it down to my pre-injury speed of under 8 min mile, but I think my age (almost 40) is starting to affect me. I'm no spring chicken anymore, lol. Now, I feel some aches and pains in only a few miles, whereas I used to do 50 miles a week and not feel a thing. It's raining and cold today. If I run, it'd be in the clubhouse, on the treadmill. However, I'm getting more and more into climbing and yoga (perfect combination). I hope to continue running to keep in shape for these activities.

My neighbors wake me up every saturday morning., around 6 am. I am ready to wear earplugs to bed. LOL Before that it was the cat but she hasn't done it lately. I haven't worked out much this week, but am going to get back in the habit today or tomorrow.
