Maybe all he needs is a little shove, and he will fall right into it. , and if he is still trying to choose an instrument, let him know that brass is best. (From one horn player to hopefully another)

I agree! My son is playing the trumpet. He crossed over that line earlier in the school year (this is his second year playing trumpet) where it was "homework" and is now enjoyable. I am so pleased to see him enjoying it, and even starting to do a little improvising! What a joy!!

Mom brag time: he is playing a solo in the Christmas concert
(can you see the beaming smile......)

(btw .... he's getting a new trumpet case for Christmas to cherish his beloved trumpet in)

yes, we are all blinded by the dazzling beaming smile

I guess great minds think alike....

youngest ds also plays trumpet!! his 3rd year... but he has thought about switching to the tuba

and he thinks he wants to do guitar ~ oldest ds does a mean bass guitar, so I'm sure that's the reason.

ah kids....

My three children all play instruments.

My daughter (oldest) plays French Horn.

My son (middle) plays trumpet.

My son (youngest) plays baritone, French Horn, and a little Trumpet.

Dad brag time: my youngest son was invited to play with his schools most advanced small group at the Christmas (winter) concert, he is the only 7th grader to have been invited. One of the pieces they are playing is the theme to Star Wars which includes a French Horn solo. He has only been playing the French Horn for a year, and the music has been quite a challenge for him to learn. It goes about a 5th higher than anything he has had to play before (higher is harder on brass), and it includes a lot of syncopated rhythms and he has never tried syncopation before. He's had the music for about two weeks now and he is almost there.

BTW did you all know that the French Horn is The Divine instrument?

................ because a man blows into it, but God only knows what comes out?

Horn players or parents of Horn players who have heard their children practices will understand that immediately, here is an explanation for the rest.

The French Horn's harmonics are so close together that you can literally play whole scales without touching the valves. The good news is that you can often hit the right note even with the wrong fingerings, but the bad news is that you can easily hit the wrong note even with the right fingerings. Sometimes the horn can really surprise you, and it's not always a good surprise.

Awww thanks Veronica, I will be sure to tell them... The son who just left the Air Force went 2x to the middle east. He will appreciate your kind words

Ah yes the boys will go at it once in a while about which branch of the millitary is toughest, or whatever. I try to stay out of the way - because they are both taller, and stronger than me. I remind them from time to time WHO is the mother, and they shape up pretty quick My son the 13yr old talks about becoming a jar head from time to time, wanting to follow in his older brothers foot-steps, but no one pushes him in that direction.

Typically I would agree with you! Those be fighting words But I have long since grown past that, and have no problem sharing that information. When I tell folks how many kids I have and they look at me, they are like, "No way"

Eldest son played the trumpet in middle school... loved it! Actually one year he asked me for a trumpet for Christmas - sadly, that was way out of my budget to provide. Perhaps one day I will be able to surprise him with one. I know his jaw would drop to the ground.... Thanks for the idea! The 13yr old however seems to me at this time, loves guitar, and drums. Might have to move him to the garage.. the electric guitar is gettin' on me nerves

Excellent! I wish I could have done that for my son! Praise God!

*giggles* That is so incredibly funny to me... lol

Y'all have some talented kids! My enjoy playing instruments, but not so sure (especially the 13yr old) electric guitar is, um er, his um, er, gift Even Silly Kitty goes running for the hills hissing

We're not to "bump", but with all the new folks around - this is a good idea for the newbies to get to know the rest of us a bit better.

I'm 24. I've never been married. I have no children of my own, however I have 1 niece (12, and thinks she knows it all) and 3 nephews (8, 2, and 2 months), plus all the kids that I work with.

Never been in a serious relationship. I don't play any instruments, but I sing .
