I for one care about Roy Pauley's opionion. I agree with him about the vast majority of his subjects. SG needs more people who aren't afraid to stand up for that which is being lost and forgotten.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I'll voluenteer to write that article ! But if I write, I'll agree with him on nearly 100% of the topics.

I read Roy's column every month and respect his opinions but I still wish Singing News would allow perspective from the younger Southern Gospel generation to both counter and coincide with Roy's opinion.

Sometimes I agree with Mr. Pauley's opinion and other times I don't. His opinion make a person think about things happening in the industry whether you agree or disagree.
Sometimes I don't even agree with my wifes opinion. The difference is I have to accept her opinion and I don't have to accept Roy's opinion.

Now there is a man who has his priorities in order.

No matter what the age the Message is still the same! All SGM members/performers must always remember it's not about them! Everything they do/say/look should point people to the Cross. Dont let the world creep into SGM creep SGM to the world! Focus on HIM! Our industry is taking enough hits, we need to work together swallow our pride, and shut up and sing! While we are at it we should live to bring glory and honor to the Father!

Before this thread becomes too ugly,Roy Pauley is the first thing I read.I applaud him for having the "gut's " to say what so many want to say. This old fogey (63) has no problem with change, and I don't care anything about tradition. However,I do believe many singer's out there are forgetting what really reaches the young people, actually people of all ages.I know many young people who are not attracted to ccm.My hat is off to you Roy Pauley.I've tried to say some of what Roy has said and got my head chopped off by ccm people.

tnsg,I just read your post about why can't SG groups take time out for the Gospel and an alter call?Every time I have gone to hear L5 and Greater Vision,SG singers, they have always done just that.I have never known them not to.I have never been to any SG concert that didn't have an alter call. And If NQC did not have one,SHAME ON THEM.I could tell you what the problem is with SG/CCM but it would spark a an awful argument and I won't go there.BTW,I have been to many SG concerts.Too many to count.

Ok, Shame on the NQC because they do not give an altar call. Do I think they should? No. However, why not announce from the stage every 2-3 groups that some prayer partners will be "back in room 201,etc..to pray with you". Those prayer partners will NOT be SGM singers, because itwould turn into "Mr Wilburn, my cat's foot is sore, will you pray?" But have them be from a local church.
Idea?

I agree preacherman...that does sound like a good idea/option. I've never been to NQC, but i'm sure that would be appreciated by some who may go through a struggle during that week.

I'm not really against NQC,however I do wonder If their taking things a little too far.Sometimes I wonder If the groups are doing a ministry for the Lord,or If fame has gone to their heads and getting that trophy Is more important to them.I'm talking about all styles of Gospel music.I'd like to see It go back to when Gospel groups just did a ministry for the Lord for the salvation of souls and nothing else.Course, that's my opinion. And I still agree whole hardly with Roy Pauley.

The only thing I mainly disagree with Roy on is the thought that we need to "return to the golden days of gospel music". I for one know of several of the "old guys" who were blatent alcholics, womanizers and downright scoundrals. In those days, singing was just a job to some. Their lifestyle didn't matter. NOT ALL BUT SOME.
I am sure there are some today still not living what they profess from the stage, but I think it was more prevelant back then.

I don't think It's necessary to return to the "Golden days of Gospel music,"however,I do think they should be remembered and we should learn from them.As far as their lifeslyles go,you find that In every era.My father was very active In the gospel groups. He had several well know groups come to our church in days gone by.But he always checked them out because,as he put it,he didn't want any phonies. We had some of the groups in our home.Today,I'm afraid we have just as many phonies. As the scripture says,my Spirit shall bare witness. So I still say,Roy Pauley, you get my vote.

His article this month to the "younger generation" is one of the worst articles that SN has ever published. All Roy's whole article is, not about trying to help young artist or being concerned about them, his article is about making sure nothing gets changed in this industry. Nothing has and nothing ever will. The fans won't except a new group that tries to do things different to reach a younger crowd, unless it hits their comfort zone. Futhermore as long as the "powers that be" do everything to prevent change in this industry, then it will continue to decline. Until they make this industry about honoring God instead of honoring man then the Lord can't bless!

Think about it: When was the last time you went to a singing and actually worshiped? You didn't pay attention to the singers and the way they sang, dressed, or listened to the stupid corny humor, but you actually tuned into God?

If we all had the same opinion then we would not have nothing to talk about LOL, we all have things we like and dislike, that is what makes the world go around. I love mixed southern gospel groups, but don't care for all male quartets at all, but I am not going to bad mouth them.Roy is just giving his opinion just like each one of us do in this forum.

I don't care for Roy's opinion at all. I have read some of his articles and it seems like to me that he is running the industry down most of the time. I also get the feeling that he would like for everything to remain as it was in the 50's and 60's as far as southern gospel music goes. I would not care if they never included another one of his articles in the magazine again.

Why?Don't we have a right to our opinion too?Actually,he's only saying what a W-H-O-L-E .....L-O-T of other people want to say but are afraid to for fear of reprocussion.I like reading his views.99% of what he says I say a hardy AMEN to.I'm glad he has the "guts" to speak up.I only wish a lot more people would do the same.Yes you have a right to your opinion, but so do we.

Why? Because you don't agree with him woody?
Maybe if you were a "somebody", the SN would ask you to voice YOUR opinion, since they haven't, what does that tell you?

Please, let's not get ugly. You do have a right to your opinion Woody, and so do we.And Woody, you are somebody and you're very important and you're very needed.Ever since ccm came into being, the argument's about music style, dress, conduct etc,etc has become unreal.I don't believe Roy Pauley is suggesting we go back to the 50's &60's,however,I do believe he is saying to all singer's.Instead of trying to reach the young with a contemporary look & sound, let's go back to allowing the HS to do the reaching of all ages. We're trying to do the job that belongs to the HS.As I'm sure you all know, for everything God does, satan has a conterfiet.Keep on telling it Roy.

roy pauley is entitled to his opinion, so am i, and so are you...is this not correct? and people shouldn't get so offensive when someone doesn't agree with you. it's not healthy.

I was not taking offense, YOU said his writing privilages should be removed. I am sure if the SN would contact you, you would have NO problem in staing your opinion in their magazine.

I like most on here, hide behind our screen name, at least Roy STATES HIS opinion, then puts his name behind it.

I believe we all have our opinion. That is what makes this forum so enjoyable.

If quartetguru doesnt want to reveal his name, he doesn't have to.
