The most irritating thing is people automaticaly assume there is something wrong with us because we can't find or keep a signifant other. We are broken.

You know... it's not my favorite thing in the world either. I'd rather be married too. But why not focus on what God wants you to learn? You may not believe it but I strongly believe that everything happens in our life for a reason. Whatever God is passing our way or allowing (through whatever means) there is something to be learned. I think there are a couple lessons in particular that I'm supposed to be learning and one of them involves my being single.

Personally, I count my blessings that I've never married any of the women I dated. I honestly think God was looking out for me.

*Someguy quickly crawls behind the nearest table and waits for people to start throwing tomatoes*

HAHAHA

Shaunii, you are hilarious!

I am grateful, too, that I haven't married any of the yay-hoos I dated. But still. I'm 31 and I feel like I've gone as far as I can by myself.

It also doesn't help that my brother has been married for two years and they are talking about having children...

Shaunii... thanks for the wake up. I knew it was coming but I didn't think it would be that quick. Talk about keeping someone on his toes! *Quickly darts out from behind the table to grab a towel. Tries to rub the goo off.*

sunday.... I have to agree. I am a little lucky because I moved in to my mother's house when I went back to school so there is a little warmth there but it is nothing like having that special someone to share all your secrets with, how your day went, your fears, and all the other good stuff that goes with being with someone. I'll hold on to your tomato until you feel a little more peppy and wanna’ throw it. *Puts the tomato in a drawer for safe keeping*

I'm right there with you. I'm 34 with three sisters (all older) who were married before or by the time they were 26 and they all have children. I keep looking at the nephews and nieces thinking I want one of those!!! (Actually, I’m not sure if I’d be good with kids…I’d settle for a wife.)

Heck, one of my nephews just got married a couple weeks ago (before his uncle?!?!?!) and another is right there on the verge of popping the question... I feel da' pain.

I know how you all feel! My oldest nephew's been married for a couple years. I think my brother will become a grandfather before I get married - LOL!! Well, sometimes it's "LOL" and sometimes it's not so funny...

Oh and Sunday - I'm with you, I really don't like the "well just wait on God" cliche. I mean, really, what else am I going to do? It's not like there are several men lined up wanting to marry me and I'm saying, "No, I'm waiting on God." It's kind of a "no other option" deal...

Trying to not get in a mood right now, I apologize in advance.

Personally speaking, I don't like being lonely and I don't like being single. It is where I am right now.

Married people telling me to be content in my singleness really irritates me.

Married people telling me that I should just remain single and not even think about remarrying is even more irritating.

Married people telling me that if I need more than God to be satisfied in my life, then I am broken, absolutely goes beyond irritation.

If those things are so valid, why are they married?

No we're not! We rarely play video games. *Whispering under his breath - Fire, Fire!! He's behind the car... throw a grenade!*

Oh yeah, I can TOTALLY relate to that one. When people think there's something wrong with my faith because I want to date and be married someday, it really really bugs me. I mean, does that mean all married people have really weak faith? No!

Well it was said to me. Quite casually and they were serious. And as far as I know their marriage is ok.

But this person also expressed to me that if my wife was so gung-ho on leaving me, then I must really have issues that need to be dealt with and I should consider that maybe God wanted me to be single, so that I could be closer to Him and "repent and return to God's will."

Now granted, I share part of the blame, and I did require repentance. But I was stunned this was said to me so casually and this guy was stunned when I disagreed with him. To him it was black and white. If she left me, I was messed up and God was fixing it.

Some people are so nearsighted. Unless he's reaaaally close to you how does he know it wasn't completely her fault? You admitted part of it was yours but unless you had admitted that he wouldn't have known (unless he was close to you or her.)

"There's a lot of good things about being single."
(I know there are, but it's usually a married person that says this to me, and I think it makes them look like a hypocrite if they say this.)

Oh yeah, I totally hate that one too! I think that sometimes when married people say this and TRULY mean it, it's because they are having troubles in their marriage and "miss" the single life. Very sad.

Another one that I hate is: You've just got to learn to wait on God. I have noticed that the people who usually lecture me on "waiting on God" are the people who have never had to wait on God for anything. They don't know what it means or how hard it can be sometimes!

I've waited on God for 41 years (Well, I haven't actually waited all that time. I took things in my own hands many times and made a mess out of it) ... so how long does one wait before beginning to wonder if God has forgotten about you?

Even King David asked God "How Long, oh God, How Long?" Even King David, the Man after God's own Heart, questioned God's timing.

My younger sister got married before me, so I feel your pain, too. I'm married now, but I didn't get hitched until my 30's, so let me tell y'all, I can so relate to everything y'all have been saying. The one I hated the most was "God still needs to work on you." Grrrrr. In my church, there were so many couples who admitted they'd been immature when they married, had rushed things, made so many mistakes "but God has been with us and now we've been married for 20+ years!" It really hurt since my parents fell in this category, too! Well, excuse me, if God allowed you to get married when you weren't ready, then why is He waiting on me???

And it's so funny, because when DH and I first became friends, I was going through a terrible time in my personal life. He actually saw me at my worst and still fell in love with me! So much for the theory that you need to be perfect before your spouse will come along.

Personally, I think people put too much stock in God when it comes to this kind of thing. You know, you have a problem, and their only answer is "God will provide" as if God was the ONLY answer.' Or another one "Pray about it!" Well, Yeah I pray about it, but it doesn't accomplish the mission. LOL

As far as getting mate, one thing, the OTHER party has to be interested in ya....God can't make that person like ya. LOL

Apparently, I guess some Christians believe that God is responsible for the decisions that THEY make, when it was really THEM that made the decision.

Uhhhhhh..... No.... I disagree. There are some fundamental issues I have with what you just said. But I am NOT getting sucked into this one today. I have to fly out today for a meeting. There is another thread here. Someone else will have to take this.
