We had a wonderful message this morning. Our pastor spoke of a bold and lavish love. A love that our Lord fully deserves from each and every one of us. We read Mark 14:3-9 While He was in Bethany at the home of Simon the leper, and reclining at the table, there came a woman with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume of pure nard; and she broke the vial and poured it over His head. But some were indignantly remarking to one another, "Why has this perfume been wasted? "For this perfume might have been sold for over three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor." And they were scolding her. But Jesus said, "Let her alone; why do you bother her? She has done a good deed to Me. "For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you wish you can do good to them; but you do not always have Me. "She has done what she could; she has anointed My body beforehand for the burial. "Truly I say to you, wherever the gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her." This woman walked into a room full of men ... something unheard of in those days. And why? To do what she could ... to express her love for Jesus in the only way she could. And rather than appreciating her, accepting that she was expressing her love upon Jesus, the men chose to whisper and gossip among themselves. Then they carried it a step further and rebuked her. But Jesus stood up for her. Knowing her intentions were done through a heart of love. She seized the moment ... she didn't let an opportunity to express her love for Him slip away ... she was bold ... and she was lavish in expressing her love. This expensive perfume she poured over His head ... thick and strong ... do you think it seeped into His skin? Stayed in His hair? Lingered in His clothing? Do you think in just a couple days when he was being beaten and humiliated ... suffering such rejection ... did the scent continue to linger on Him ... did it remind Him of that love that was so lavishly and unselfishly expressed? As I left the church, I thought to myself how thoughtless words tend to linger in my mind ... the whispers, the gossip, a form of rejection ... and then a little voice whispers to me ... reminds me of words of love and acceptance ... that I am part of His family forever. I cling to those words ... those promises of love ... and they stay in my mind, much as a strong fragrant oil must have clung to my Savior ... rising up to remind me at a time when they are needed ...

Do you hear Him? Do you hear God when He speaks to you? Do you know what His voice sounds like? We are embarking on a study titled HEARING GOD ... The word hear is defined as: to listen to and consider ... to take notice of ... to pay attention to I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd. John 10:16 Further reading is Genesis 3 ... Adam and Eve hear God's voice in the garden. Father, help me to hear Your voice, that I may know the way You have planned for me. Thank You for being my Shepherd. Amen.

The death of a child. So unspeakably sad. A family turned upside down. Daily routines forever changed. This morning I attended a Celebration of Life service for a little boy who just turned 3 this month. They had beautiful memories projected on the screens. They had worship music playing ... songs that to a believer spoke of hope and a day when we will all get to see him ... but to the nonbeliever, a time to cry over a forever loss. The pastor, giving the message of salvation in a way different than I have heard in the past. Speaking the facts. A gentle and kind voice inviting those who do not know Jesus as their Savior to open the doors of their hearts to receive Him. My prayer throughout the service was for those who are unsure, who have doubts, who have questions, to ask and seek, open the door, to be sure where they will be when the day comes for their life memories to be projected on the screens. It was a message of hope ... and through the tears, I smiled, knowing one day I will see this precious little boy again.

Each morning I receive, among many things, a Word Of The Day. Today's WOD is: salad days. Aside from the fact that this is a phrase, and not a word, I thought to myself ... I have never heard this phrase before. Salad days ... I'm thinking "types of salads" or "days of dieting" or "summer" or maybe even "vegetarian foods" So I scroll down to find the meaning of this phrase ... and it doesn't mean any of these things! Here is the definition: time of youthful inexperience or indiscretion; also : an early flourishing period : heyday Now, who would have thought of that?? But wait! Could it be true ... I read a little further, attempting to understand where such a phrase could come from, and I read: The first English writer known to use "salad days" to associate the fresh greenness of salad with the vigor and recklessness of youth was William Shakespeare. In Antony and Cleopatra ... Cleopatra says "My salad days, / When I was green in judgment, cold in blood, / To say as I said then." I completely missed that .....

Continuing on with the study HEARING GOD "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. John 10:27-28 Further reading is Exodus 19 ... God comes and speaks to His people Father, help me to always be ready to hear Your voice and listen to Your words. Help me to not listen to any other. Amen.

This morning on my way to work, I heard a remake of one of my favorite hymns ... In The Garden I come to the garden alone While the dew is still on the roses And the voice I hear falling on my ear The Son of God discloses. And He walks with me, and He talks with me, And He tells me I am His own; And the joy we share as we tarry there, None other has ever known. And I thought how perfectly this song fits with my current study on listening for God's voice. Spending time alone, in a quiet place, with the intention ... and more importantly, the desire ... to converse with Him. While I currently don't have a garden to wander in during the early hours of the day, waking up early while the world is still quiet around me is my favorite way to start the day. A time of peace to allow His words to come to me.
