For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the lovingkindness of the Most High he will not be shaken. - Psalm 21:7

Further reading is 2 Kings chapters 22 and 23 ... Jusiah the king trusts God and follows Him, not moving left or right.

Hi Darcy! Hi Ed!

I haven't been a very chit-chatty person lately, huh? Lots going on in life right now. There's stuff that I have no control over, and even though it doesn't *involve* me directly, it certainly does affect me. I'm really thankful that I have a safe place of refuge!

the most powerful man in the kingdom ... with thousands of people constantly honoring him (and so many people probably sucking up to him as yes-men) ... able to have anything his heart desires as soon as he speaks it ... not allowing himself to have a puffed up ego to think he can do it all himself ... foreign nations plotting destruction in his own kingdom ... trusting on God and not his own power or defenses ... your scripture brought good imagery to me, thanks for posting!

I just posted a new thread over in parenting.

This whole single parenting thing really stinks and I'm hating it big time right now.

I was never a boy and I have no idea what goes through the mind of a boy. Especially a 12 year old.

I feel really angry with my ex because he completely failed me as a husband and he completely failed and continues to fail our son as a father.

Sam, I sympathize! My Ex was pretty much the same way... even though he was around! He was a poor father at best.

However, I will tell you that I have 2 terrific sons! Hang in there Sam, it will work out. (I know that is easier said than done )

Yeah. Maybe chocolate will help ... even if it's only temporary. Then I can have more chocolate.

Pssst ... honey, I need a hug

Well, my theory is that chocolate helps everything/anything... time and chocolate. As long as you have to wait, you might as well do it with something sweet!!

I hate those who regard vain idols, But I trust in the LORD. - Psalm 31:6

Further reading is 1 Corinthians chapters 8 through 10 ... about idols.

Father, please help me realize any idols in my life. Then Lord, help me to repent and help those around me see the idols they too are worshiping. Amen.

Wow, what a loaded prayer request! What comes to mind for you? Some things that are obvious to me are: money; *things* (don't we all just have loads of *things*); fancy late-model car ... the most recent trend in automobiles; name brand clothing; jewelry; shoe collections; the latest hair style or color; books; CDs; DVDs; the latest cell phone model ...

The list can go on and on ...

How hard do we try to fit in? How important is it to us to have all the latest gadgets? Are we trying to keep up with the Joneses? How often do we find ourselves coveting what we don't have? How much *stuff* do we have that we just have to buy, and we get it home ... to collect dust, to never be used, to end up in the bottom of the drawer or in the back of the closet?

What are we idolizing?

If you make it dark chocolate full of flavanols you can argue that you need it for your health. (So far, my research shows that Dove Dark, Lindt dark chocolate and Xocai are the ones to choose for those benefits.)

Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He will do it - Psalm 37:5

Further reading are Psalms 22 and 31 ... trusting and committing your life to God through the tough times.

Father, I give my life into Your hands. I trust You completely. Help me to trust You even more each day. Continue to remind me that I cannot lean on my own understanding, but to run to You, to walk with You daily. Help me to remember that you are my place of refuge, and in difficult times, to seek You first. Amen.

I have a friend who has been so impressed with what she's seen from the Xocai chocolate that she's gone into the business of selling it. It's awfully pricey so I decided to check out the claims she was making. None of the studies I looked at mentioned that particular brand but indeed there has been (and still is) research being conducted on the benefits of dark chocolate. Most of the studies have used Dove Dark but other dark chocolate that has not been processed in a way that destroys the flavanols (which is most of them but not the ones I listed above) would have the same results:

appetite suppressant
anti-depressant
lowers blood pressure
improves heart health
increases flexibility of blood vessels

Seems to me there were one or two other benefits. Apparently the benefits come from eating 33 to 100 grams (forget what that is in ounces) a day. Warning: I tried my first sample between 3 and 4 p.m. and couldn't get to sleep that night until 5 a.m. Now my chocolate is the first thing I eat in the morning. Too bad all medicine wasn't this good!

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Jeremiah 29:11

This verse came to me four different times yesterday. The first time, I thought how true this verse is. The touch of His hand in our lives. The second time, I thought, hmmm, interesting, this verse again. The third time, I realized I needed to pay attention – God was clearly speaking to me. And the fourth time, I meditated upon it. “How very true His Words are …”

I thought over events of the past few weeks ...

Personal relationships. The strengthening of the bonds with my sweetie. A very close friend who moved back to Phoenix – who has been through a situation similar to what I was about to be faced with. Both have provided me with a steady hand and a voice of reason. And ears to bend.

A situation at work. Something I had no control over. Something that, while not concerning me, affected me in a big way. A learning experience that taught me … while I don’t know what happened, I don’t need to know either … while I’m curious about the circumstances that caused these events to occur, it’s not important for me to know what they were … while a part of me wants to be in the know, I am perfectly fine not knowing.

A study on trust. Which turned into a side-study on God being my place of refuge. Knowing beyond any doubts that He is there for me always and everywhere. All I need to do is call upon Him.

The discussion of children without fathers …

These things all tied together to prepare my heart for Thursday evening. The phone call from my father that started out “I have some terrible news … “

Thursday my ex committed suicide.

My mind went blank. What does one think when they hear such news? I’m not surprised, those who knew me best can tell you that I fully expected to hear this kind of news one day. But the sadness overwhelmed me … how sad that someone would think life was so hopeless that they would choose to end it. After all those years of marriage and dealing with his severe depression, the suicidal moods and thoughts … the reality that he actually did it was overwhelming.

Then I became angry … How dare he not bother to think how this would affect other people in his life! How dare he not consider the effect it would have on his son! How really typical of him to not care about making a mess and leaving it for someone else to pick up the pieces … someone else will deal with the aftermath.

Then there were tears … For the sadness of it all. For the memories of the hopelessness he experienced all those years we were married when his depressive cycles hit. For the sadness that our son no longer had an earthly father. And yes, for the final frustration of dealing with the mess he left for others to have to pick up.

Then there were praises … That God prepared me ahead of time for this. Through all the frustrations and trials I have been going through. For the peace He has instilled in my heart. For the friends He has placed in my life. For the recent studies on trusting Him and finding refuge in Him. For the verses containing His promises that He has brought to my mind.

And it occurred to me that He knew this was coming, and He intentionally prepared me through various lessons.

And it occurred to me once again that He is indeed my Rock.

And that my feet are firmly attached to the Rock … He is the foundation of my life.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

How true is this promise!!

He knows the plans He has for me … His hand is continually in my life. To prosper me … to prepare me for the future He knows I will be facing. Plans to keep me from harm … separating the emotional experience from the memories. In this case, emotional harm. In all of this, He has indeed given me a hope … in Him … and a future … buried deep in His love.

I cannot help but praise God for all He has done in my life, and for all He continues to do in my life.

I know beyond any doubts that He will be there when the little memories creep into my mind.

I know beyond any doubts that He will be there in my son’s life when the death of his earthly father become a reality to him.

His love truly is bigger and greater and wider and higher and stronger than anything this world could ever give.

I just reread my prayer from Thursday morning. I didn't use the prayer that my church had printed, oftentimes I change it. But Thursday God impressed this prayer upon my heart. How little did I know at that time what the day had in store for me ...

God never ceases to amaze me.

He is my place of refuge.

Father, thank You for all You have done and continue to do, for Your hand in my life. Amen.
