Speaking of age Pam how is your partner and his wife doing? I don't know why but I was thinking about them the other day.........

Dan and Dolores are two amazing people. They just keep going no matter what. Dan is 67 and Dolores is 73. Dan had a motorcycle accident in 1991, has had several bones broken in his back, has never healed right, is always in pain, now has arthritis and who knows what else all over his body. And still he keeps going.

Dolores has lupus. Also has arthritis. Both knees have been replaced. Also always in pain.

Dan is an ordained minister (yes, one of those "internet" ministers). He pastors a local retirement facility. Dolores provides the music for this ministry, playing piano.

Dan is a dead ringer for Santa Claus. (Ever see smokymountainsanta over in SG? Definitely rivals him.) We have a local theater, Allenberry Playhouse, and Dan and Dolores are their greeters during the holiday season - Santa and Mrs. Claus, of course. Allenberry is also a restaurant, and "pays" Dan and Dolores with foodstuffs, which they see get distributed properly. (These people are tireless!)

More: They are parents to about a dozen senior dogs. I think it's about that number, I've lost track. They've adopted them, and all but one is crippled or blind or deaf or something. They've long since abandoned the hope that they can keep carpet in their house, and they now have laminate flooring throughout. Dan mops the house three times a day. (How much bigger can their hearts get?)

For those who don't know, this is how I fit into all this. Two or three times a month, on Saturday, Dan and I sing, or provide gospel programs, at nursing homes or retirement facilities. We've done this since 1994. In the last few years, Dolores has begun to accompany us and play where there is a piano. Oh, and Dan has begun to do some programs on his own at other places during the week when I'm not available due to (egads!) my working. That's now dedicated he is.

Thank you, Joy, for asking. You gave me the kick I needed to sing the praises of these two amazing people. God is using them to the fullest. And they are such a perfect example of something Dan himself says all the time - "God doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called."

"God doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called."

Amen!!!

That is impressive!! What a blessing to know people like Dan and Dolores [:D]

WOW Pam thank you so much for sharing such an amazing testimony of what a life lived for the Lord looks like.........You are really blessed to have them in your life....as they are to have you in theirs.....

I love the quote......he equips the called.........that is powerful.........I love it....[:D][:D][:D]

I'm glad you told us about them.... inspiring!

wfisaac -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/30/2008 1:36:18 PM)

That is a very cool story Pam. A great reminder that all God needs from us is our willingness to step out and He'll give us exactly what is needed to fulfill what He has asked us to do. I think that's what keeps us humble and give all the credit and glory to Him.

.Pammy -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/30/2008 1:38:44 PM)

Yes, I am very, very blessed to know them and to have them in my life. They are my big brother and sister. They're the ones who keep Toby when I go away. When I need help at home, they're the ones I call. And they know to call me immediately for anything, at any time.

Oh, and Dan is a dynamite preacher, too!
[:D]

Okay, I cannot get enough salad.

Cobb salad to be specific.

What is it about cobb salads? It is the chunks of turkey? The bits of bacon? The tangy little surprise of the blue cheese? The tomatoes are important, I love tomatoes. It's just not a salad without tomatoes [:D]. The egg is important too. I have to remove the avocado only because I'm allergic [:o]

I like it tossed with Italian. Sometimes Ranch. Not blue cheese though, the tangy little bites are enough for me.

I'm addicted!! I have to go down to the little shop before noon and pick it up because they sell out so quickly. I guess I'm not alone in my obsession.

What's everyone else's favorite salad?

I have two. Caesar, and (don't know if it has a name really) lettuce with hot bacon dressing. Yummmm.

I normally don't like most places Greek salad but I am very hooked on this one pizza place's one they have. It's lettuce, beets, feta cheese (only like that in moderation), black olives, little baby corn and artichoke hearts and I prefer it with Ranch dressing...and NO onions. I absolutely love it and just can't seem to have enough.

You all are making me hungry.........I was craving mexican but now I think I want the oriental chicken salad from applebees

utilityfielder -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/30/2008 5:01:12 PM)

I like a salad with mushroom, onions, cheese along with the lettuce and tomatoes. And it must be ranch dressing.

Oh...that reminds me of one of my other favorites...it's the oriental salad made with cabbage and the ramen noodles in it and toasted almonds....yummmy!!!

Good morning!

Looking forward to another beautiful day [:D]

Veronica, I should email you my Chinese Chicken Salad. I use Nappa for the cabbage (a milder flavor), add some bean sprouts (sometimes I thinly slice the pea pods), and add a little sesame oil to the dressing. YUM!!!

Focusing -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/31/2008 9:59:45 AM)

This morning on my way in, I was listening to my favorite Christian station, and they were discussing a study that said people who are happy are not successful, lack determination to do well in life, make less money ...... versus people who are successful, i.e., make good money, are determined to further their careers, have more *things*.

As you may well imagine, there were lots and lots of interesting phone calls and discussion! Some people called in with Bible versus, talking about *everything in moderation*. So .........

How do you define success?

How do you define happiness?

Personally, I believe that happiness in life equates to success. As a believer, I know God will see me through anything. He will make sure I have everything that I need. Not necessarily all the stuff I want, but He has always seen to it that my needs are met.

Manna each morning ...... and He loves me so much, there are always little perks (aka blessings) that He throws in just for pure enjoyment! [:)]

joy2give2u -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/31/2008 10:07:51 AM)

Morning Sam.........

How do I define success........removing a section of the fence between heaven and earth........and not putting another one up........

Happiness is a cheap imitation of Joy

Focusing -> RE: Let Everything That Has Breath Praise The Lord! (1/31/2008 10:17:13 AM)

You most certainly have a point JOY!!!

Joy is what fills our heart ..... it's God ..... it's what makes us seek to please Him even when everything seems to be going wrong ..... it is the light that eminates through us.

Girlfriend, you are awesome!! Always bringing a smile to our faces.

I still need to type up my sermon notes from this past Sunday. Part 1 of a 4-part series on Because I Said So ...... Jesus' Commands To Us. Okay, I altered the pastor's title, but he was thinking about calling it that, he said so!! [:D]

Some of the things he was talking about made me think about you. You're probably thinking ...... um, okay Sam, you were thinking about me during a church sermon? [sm=sadquestion.gif] YES! And you will see why. Just as soon as I get them there notes and scribbles typed up.

Do you sometimes have trouble reading your own handwriting? I'm happy when I write stuff down, but perhaps not too successful in having pretty handwriting. I should have been a doctor! LOL

LOL sounds like we have something in common........I am a huge note taker and am rarely seen without my notebook and pen during church, classes or while studying the bible.........when I take notes at church or class I rarely go back through and read them.........for me just writing them down helps cement them into my mind........it keeps me focused.......if I don't take notes my mind can tend to wander LOL

Hi John! Good to see you [:D]

Dare I ask what honeymoon salad is?

Or are you referring to any salad you may eat on your honeymoon? [;)][sm=raisedbrows.gif]
