Gotta be. Can't get much worse!

Hi OneJohn and welcome to the garage. [:)]

Oh, don't worry about the parking meters. That's just in case one of the girlies decides to show up. We gotta pay for the anti-cootie fumigatin' somehow. [8D]

Yeah, that coffee does look pretty thick. Anybody need some tar? [:D]

(Pulls out the campstove 'cause it's much too hot to start a fire in the wood burner...puts on a fresh pot.)[;)]

That's cheating! [sm=shocked.gif][sm=tongue.gif][sm=biggrin.gif]

Yeah but... when you are in the building/remodeling bidniz, I don't wanna do any house work myself at the end of the week. [:@] Have you never heard that a carpenters own house is never done?? [:D]

I think I'd cheat too. [sm=biggrin.gif]

Hi Ray, sorry to hear about your bad day, I hope things are going better for you now!

Yeah...we'll see. [8D]

A buddy is coming over tonight to help out with the brake line in the car. So far I've got the railings over half-done. The deck itself won't take long at all. As long as the rain holds out, should be done with it within a few days anyway. [:)]

Don't say that Denny! I'd hate for you to be proven wrong. [:o][8D]

humbleinspirit -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/19/2008 10:57:27 AM)

That should be good then Ray!

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/19/2008 11:02:15 AM)

Hope springs eternal. [:D]

OK, need a brake line report and a deck report.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/20/2008 8:01:27 PM)

[:D]

One brake line (about three very-difficult-to-get-to feet long)...two people...three hours...blood (mosquitoes), and lots of sweat...no tears. [8D]

It's doing OK except that the bleed valve snapped off when we tried to bleed the brake caliper. So it does feel a little spongy but not too bad. It's a GM vehicle, and their brakes always feel spongy anyway. Hopefully it'll get better on its own.

The worst part about it is realizing that most of the brake lines are in about the same shape as the one that broke...not good.

On the deck, the railings are about 2/3s done. Today it rained, so that puts a damper on the project until things dry out. Thankfully there isn't much rain in the forcast this week.

OneJohn410 -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/21/2008 4:12:39 PM)

Hey Ray,
Just passing by again, nice looking deck. What's up with all these signs everywhere- 'Don't feed the Ogre?' Is that a picture of the harmless little guy you refer to there in the lawn chair with the insulated juice tumbler? Or is there something more... a Doberman Pincher named Ogre?

Not to be nosy or anything, but I don't see a sidewalk edger anywhere in there- was seeing if I could spy what you have found best for that. 'Lectric or gas, bladed or cord. I'm leaning toward a gas/blade unit, but maybe Al Gore would rather I use something electrical. I've got that viney St. Augustine grass.

I'm a believer that a man with some quality tools and a generous heart is a great neighbor. [:)]

Thanks,
OneJohn

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/21/2008 8:48:30 PM)

Yeah, the whole ogre thing is about me, not the little grandson ogre in the avatar, though he has been know around the forums as the little ogre baby. There's even a green version of him in the photo gallery. (top of forum page on tool bar)[8D]

When they first let us put up avatars, I found a Shrek one and had that, or a couple different Shrek ones for a long time, taking on the ogre personna that I still portray and enjoy from time to time.

And then the grandson came along. The little guy is just too adorable and there was much suggesting that my avatar should be of him. Since then, there have been many avatars of the little guy.

More pix here

The 'Please don't feed the ogre signs' started appearing a year or two ago when I realized that I really either needed to lose weight or get my own zip code. [8|][8D]

Since then, I had a heart attack in March and found out in the ER that I'm diabetic. Then the signs took on a whole new meaning and I've lost about 47 pounds since March.

I do have an edge trimmer. It was a gift that a friend was wanting to get rid of it because he never used it. It's a gas model with a blade and works pretty good. You just hafta be a little careful not going too hard into the concrete with the blade, and that takes a little finess but not too bad. It's the only one I've ever had so I don't have much of a comparison to give you.

Don't have much use for one up here in the mountains.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/24/2008 10:45:45 AM)

I believe it. [;)]

So I've finally got the railings finished. Now just for some time and good weather to put a couple coats on the deck itself and...and. [:D]

Band practice tonight. Plus a viewing tonight and a funeral tomorrow. We'll see if there's any day left when we get home from the funeral tomorrow.

denbert -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/25/2008 6:02:10 AM)

It's not YOUR funeral is it? You need to get that deck done first.

revbob4God -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/25/2008 4:56:46 PM)

Well, it's sure nice to sit in somebody else's garage for a change, and I no longer wonder why we have our own place to chat. For this I am grateful. I wanted to stop in and say hello and God Bless to all before getting back to treying to type my sermon on this newfangled lap top.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/26/2008 8:46:44 AM)

Welcome Revbob. [:)]

And God's blessings on your new laptop. Is it a Vista?

[:D]

Nope, unfortunately I'm still here to work on the deck. [8D]

I've got two coats on half of the deck. Now I can move the furniture and finish the rest of it. Except that the calendar is full until Monday. W***ing today. Tonight there's a local band at the coffee shop. Tomorrow we'll be at the booth for the soup kitchen in the County Fair.

Busy busy.[sm=rollingeyes.gif]

Hiya Revbob! Welcome.

Uh Ray, you aren't related to Darcy, are you?

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/26/2008 10:10:01 AM)

She does claim me as her brother. [;)]

Well she does call on you from time to time to bail her out of her messes.[:D]

gmc4Jesus -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/26/2008 10:36:59 PM)

I would rather own a house than pay rent. I could have a dog, plant some vegetables and fruit trees, and build a workshop where I could do some light wood working.

Hopefully it would be on a street with some extra parking so we could have friends over for dinner, Bible study, etc.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/27/2008 6:02:23 AM)

There are a lot of advantages to being a home owner. The biggest downfall is the maintenance. A lot of people would like to own a home but aren't willing to put the w*** into it. Others buy a house without knowing what they're getting themselves into. The aspirations that you express gmc is encouraging that being a home owner would work out well for you.

OneJohn410 -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/27/2008 11:56:00 PM)

Hey Ray,
I must've dozed off in the chair and forgot to leave. [:)] Sorry if I snored much. Thanks for the edger info. Also, congrats on the diligence of dropping that 47 pounds. That must have been some awesome walking with the Lord, and how he'd steer you away from temptation. Oh, and for the ogre stories too. Thanks for the coffee for the 'road'! Now, that looks much better, (sniff sniff) and smells better too! Good luck with that deck, and keeping stuff from landing on it while its wet. Eh, you've probably already trained all the trees and insects around to beat it when you need them gone.

Yep, after 45 years of home ownership I have some equity and tax deductions that beats 45 years of rent receipts.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (7/28/2008 10:54:54 AM)

As far as the temptations of food, there really hasn't been an issue. I know that if I eat like I'm supposed to, that I don't have to take insulin shots. As soon as I cross that line, the blood sugar will skyrocket. That in itself is incentive enough. However I also know that as I lose all of this weight, I feel better and will live longer. There's no way I'm going to allow myself to mess this up. It's so not worth it.
