So the whirling blade side goes down? [sm=rollingeyes.gif]

As a rule.

Also, try to find a mower with a large V-8. That will save you from having to modify it later.

A rich man in his limo notices a family eating grass on the side of the road and tells the driver to pull over. He invites the family to come to his home and the family are so thrilled that this good man has come to his aid. The driver is suprised and asks why he is doing this and he says that his grass at home is over a foot deep.

Let them eat grass. [:D]

So, do any of you know anything about dancing? Or dance lessons?

My wife has been on me to learn how to dance so we won't look like total klutzes at daughters wedding. My best dancing moves make me look like a frankenstein monster drugged up on a mixture of valium and caffiene.

Being caucasionally impaired, I don't have much hope that I will ever achieve anything better than klutz+ in dancing but I guess I gotta try.

So, any advice?

You make a joke but the truth is that your concoction here is just what you need. The valium so you won't care and the caffiene to keep you alert enough to keep from falling all over everyone.

The most important dance will be with your daughter so just make sure the band does a slow number and you to just kind of halfway move around while chatting with daughter and you boo hoo about how you never thought you would see this day and how you are not going to be able to pay for it.

Yeah, what he said.

Just shuffle your feet now and then. That should be enough. [:)]

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/16/2008 10:32:26 AM)

Dsfuva is into dancing. You might want to give him a pm and see what he says. [sm=icon_smile_idea.gif]

I married a woman that doesn't dance, and doesn't care to learn. Now with her knee problems, her dancing days are probably over with anyway. Other than my daughter's wedding, I haven't danced in 29 years.

That's about right. Dancing is just one notch up from a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/17/2008 10:54:32 AM)

Speaking of sharp sticks...stokes the fire.

It's gonna get cold here this weekend. [sm=icon_smile_cold.gif]

mrtigger -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/18/2008 8:55:47 AM)

It's absolutely frigid here --- it was only 60ish degrees yesterday. [:)]

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/18/2008 10:35:54 AM)

Right now it's 22F, wind chill is 3F. A high of 17F is predicted for Sunday.

Looking forward to warming weather, which comes about April here. Sometimes March isn't too bad...highs in the 40's.

We'll be in the single digits tomorrow. AARRGGHH

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/21/2008 6:02:52 AM)

It's a couple degrees above zero this morning. I've got the day off, so I fired up the wood-burner and will try to keep it stoked today.

The wife has to w*** today. After she leaves, I'm going to change the oil and rotate the tires on the car that I've been driving to w***. We bought a new Escape for her, and I've been driving her old car ('96 Bonneville) since it gets better gas mileage than the truck. In fact the truck hasn't even been started in a couple weeks.

YIKES! It's 2 degrees outside! Wish I could stay with ya today and sit around the wood burning stove. [:)]

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/21/2008 6:34:00 AM)

So far it's not keeping up and the furnace is running too. Yeah Denny. If you were here then I'm sure that we'd be driving Toohsy nuts in no-time. [8D]

denbert -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/21/2008 8:44:42 PM)

Well that's the plan, right?

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/22/2008 10:04:54 AM)

It's not a long trip.

rayofson -> RE: The Garage-come on in (1/22/2008 11:30:49 AM)

(Looks out at the inch of new snow that's still falling)

So if I'm going to get a riding lawn mower this year, then the gate in the chain-link fence that leads to the backyard needs to be wider...and that means that a certain climbing rose bush next to the garage has to go. [&o]

It's an interesting time of year. You can make all these plans, and yet ain't nothing gonna happen until the weather warms up a bit and the ground thaws out. Meanwhile at work, the overtime is already kicking up a notch. By the time I can get out and do any yard-work, I'll be knee-deep in overtime at work.

Well, that's a good thing!

Now if mine would just insist on a new camper!

For the atheistically inclined, I have definitive proof that there really is a God.

My wife just did exactly that. Bonus: she wants one with space for an ATV up front.

Did I marry right, or what.

Edit: Bad thought: Does she have something even more expensive in mind that she's not telling me about?

Be very careful!

So I've never had a riding lawn mower before. What are some of the things to look for?

1. A cup holder big enough to hold an ice cold 12oz alum can. [;)]
2. BIG bagger. The small ones fill up way too fast. Especially when sucking up fall leaves.
3. One with a hydrostaic trans, or one that is easy to shift. Some mowers jerk and take off so fast in the upper gears that you can leave your spine laying between the burn outs.
4. If you have a sloping yard, one that is stable on topo. There are some 3 wheel mowers out there that will toss you faster than a wild mustang.
5. One with a tight turn radius. Now days, the good mowers have zero turn radius... even the lawn tractors.
6. Before you buy a name brand, look on the internet. Many manufactures sell their models under different names, though they are the exact same unit. Example: my brother bought a Sears Craftsman mower that was made by John Deere, for almost a grand less then the pretty green name brand.
7. Don't be too cheap, a good mower will cost from $1,500 to $4,000 for professional grade. But a good one will last more than 10 years and need nothing more than typical maintenance. Cheap ones are made of plastic and lower gauge steel, they rattle and shake themselves apart. I love my Snapper that cost $900 new... in 1987! All I've done, other than tune ups, is to replace a clutch for $80. New Snappers are around $1,500, and I'm thinking about getting a new one with a larger bagger and electric start. Another reason I like Snapper is they are built right here in Georgia.. USA!

Be sure to wear your long pants, long sleeve shirt, helmet, gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, athletic cup, steel toe boots, knee high socks, and something else to protect any remaining exposed skin. It may be July... but Ralphie, you can shoot your eye out!

I've had mulching mowers for many years, so was thinking of a mulching version in a rider. Has anyone had experience with that?

Flat as a pancake. Not as much syrup though...unless Lake Erie backs up. [8D]

7. Don't be too cheap

I prefer the term 'fiscally retentive'. [sm=icon_smile_approve.gif] And I must admit oogling the ones in the $1000-range at Sears.

Built in USA is definitely a selling-point and something that I do try to look for.

I don't even do that when I'm running the weed whacker. [sm=icon_smile_shy.gif]

As a musician, I am always very careful of my hearing. Both of my parents have hearing problems. Mom is deaf in one ear. Dad lost a lot of hearing to mowers and farm equipment. Between the two of them, they have one good ear. [sm=bigears.gif]

Well, that's all ya need for mowing the lawn.
