Oh wow; Thanks {{{Kristin!!!}}}

I didn't know just exactly how much I needed a hug till I got yours.
It's been a bit of a complex day today. LOL Nothing bad; nothing major; just complex.

AND - I LOVE your avatar!

I've often thought that we live in a word of sensory overload. So many people have so much going on in their lives. And it clutters our minds.

And I also think that causes us to truly zone out and not really hear what someone is saying.

For instance . . . When I got back from the post office this morning, I realized that an eBay customer overpaid (by double) the shipping charges for some auctions she won. It didn't initially register with me . . . with eBay, a customer can either automatically pay what they owe or can wait for an invoice; this particular customer chose to automatically pay . . . and I didn't double check the shipping . . . only the fact that the auctions she won had been marked as paid by PayPal.

So . . . when I realized the error this morning, I called PayPal to see what I needed to do to credit the shipping overage back to the customer. I started the conversation by saying, "I'm am a seller . . ." and then briefly (but clearly) told the lady what happened and what I wanted to do. Her first response to me was, "OK, so you're a buyer and someone has overcharged you on shipping, correct?"

Just a few minutes ago, I called the cable company to see if cable was out (or if it was just a personal colossal joke on only me). I had to go through all kinds of phone prompts. I'm not the account holder; my landlords are - and they don't even live in this state. After pressing "0" a couple of times to bypass the prompt questions I couldn't answer, I got to talk to a guy. The first thing I said to him was, "Can you tell me, please, if the cable is out in Pigeon Forge?" His response was to ask me for my account number, to which I told him that I was not the account holder, but rather the renter of the house and that my landlords lived out of state. He then asked if I was verified to be calling them (the cable company).

Oh, and btw . . . I was able to credit the overage of shipping charges back to my customer, and I was able to learn that cable is indeed out in this area.

Now, I tell you all this not to vent, rant or complain . . . but to make fun of myself . . .
. . . At the post office this morning, I sent two packages; one was business-related and one was personal. I asked the guy at the counter if it was possible to pay for them separately (because I wanted two different receipts). He said, "No." I said, "Oh good; thank you so much," and then placed the first package on the counter . . . in anticipatory glee of making two transactions.

He then proceeded to start laughing really good there for a while.

He also told me what he had actually said.

I was so embarrassed!

He said he would forget about it in 5 minutes; I said that I would probably be thinking about it all day (which, actually turned out to not be true . . . but I was reminded of it a few minutes ago; hence the reason for this post).

Huh? What did you say?

What? Who's speaking?

I've had those times too. I KNOW what I heard, but what I heard was not what the other person said.

Christi - congratulations on the job offer!

Didjya say yes?

Thank you! I did say yes.

I called GB's school today to tell them I'd bring her enrollment forms and shot record and first week's tuition tomorrow and the director said she'd put her down on the class roll for Monday. I start the new job Monday morning at 8:00.

Sharon-Marie, our home telephone service was out for a few hours this morning...wonder if that was related to your cable problems at all? I know we have different providers, but sometimes it's satellite related or something like that.

Oh, during our outage I had a few important phone calls I needed to make and kind of got antsy about it there for a minute...then I remembered I do have a cellphone.

BTW, Can I ask a huge favor of ya? After having read the adventures with the tractor and the water pump (?) I'd like it if you could give Linz a big ole ***HUG*** from us and say, "We've all messed up. That's what grace is for."

I'm sure you've already said it, but ya know.

..... oh Diva, I'm sooo sorry.

We went through a lot of these conversations when my father died in January... it got so bad that my mother was unable to make the calls anymore... So we'd sit at her kitchen table and I would make the calls for her...

... after a while... I helped her by making jokes about it... and soon, she'd sit there and make funny faces while I tried to muddle through to get business done!

Surprisingly... the company with the employee which had the most compassion was Verizon Wireless... Bless that lady's heart! <3

Thanks y'all for the hugs and kind words. I have lots of stories from my experiences with my brothers illness and death. I have learned to laugh at most of them--in fact some things about death can be hilarious. Or maybe I am just weird--a few of my friends say they love me because/in spite of the fact I am unique

{{{DivaB}}}, I very much can relate.

I went through something similar with a company after CS died. I was contacting businesses and closing his accounts. Most of those went pretty well, but one company kept insisting that the account holder had to call to cancel the account. The first couple of times, I called as CS's wife trying to get them to close the account; then I tried calling as the Personal Representative of CS's estate in attempts to get the account closed. At the beginning of the fiasco, I even offered to send in an original certified copy of the death certificate. I was told that wasn't valid proof of someone's death. . This continued off/on for 3 months; I finally decided that it was causing me too much stress and just dropped the matter.

The red-tape in dying is enormous.

CS's 2nd wife (J) had been deceased for 4 years when he and I met (and for 6 years when he and I married). Throughout that entire time (and even after we were married), CS received mail addressed to her. He also received mail address to his parents (both together and individually); and they had been deceased for several years as well.

Same thing happened when CS died; and weirdly enough, some of these were "Please come back" credit card offers from the very companies whose accounts I closed soon after his death. I mean, hey, I know he was a valued customer and he paid his bills and all; but I just really don't see him making any more financial transactions anymore.

Ironically, when I moved to Pigeon Forge last year, that did stop the mail for J and for CS's parents . . . but every now I then, I still do get something for CS.

Yeah, Mike . . . I picked a good time to start eBaying, huh.

Back in April (?), eBay, in an attempt to be more "buyer-friendly", decided that sellers could no longer rate buyers negatively; they could either rate them as positive or neutral. Buyers, however can still rate sellers not only as positive or as neutral, but also as negative.

Part of the decision was made to attract more buyers; part was in an attempt to curb unprofessional sellers who would negatively rate buyers; not on the actual parameters of the auction but out of spite for something not related to an specific auction. (Kinda like when we got our "starring" privileges rescinded here because people were abusing it and giving low starts to be vindictive).

Ahhh, adults; gotta love 'em.

But the recent decision from eBay has turned into a mess for some sellers because now there are unscrupulous buyers making false claims against sellers and arbitrarily rating them as negative.

Yada, yada, yada.

I was reading about it in eBay's forums a couple of months ago; and I finally stopped. The hostility over there was thick and I just didn't want to submerse myself in it.

I have a task to do, and I have asked Our Lord to cover me and to guide me. That's pretty much it.
I do have some other online auction sites that I might try as well (or maybe not - LOL).

{{{Rach}}} - for what you and your mother went through.

I think companies really ought to have some specialized agents who handle accounts of deceased loved ones.

Having to make even one of those calls at such a grief-filled time is emotionally hard.

Having to make multiple phone calls and and repeatedly say, "Yes, my (loved one) recently died and I am calling to close his / her account" is like pouring alcohol in a gaping wound and then rubbing salt in it, to boot.

What the caller needs is someone who can at least step back for a moment and realize that it's just not a series of numbers on a computer screen but a hurting person that they're dealing with.
