I used to look at the title of this thread and, resignedly, answer "no." I never opened it, in order to protect myself. But now, I can write that my husband has done something that just made me melt.
Twenty years of marriage, and much of that was him working hard to be a "good" husband, to make me happy, while he would not work on himself. He needed to work on himself.
Well, over the last of those twenty years, he began to "get it." He has worked on himself and become the man I thought I had married, the man he had portrayed himself to be when we were "going together."
We celebrated our 21st anniversary, and I was able to look him in the eyes and say, "I really respect you," and tell him in detail why. He has not only worked on his issues, but he has grasped and put to work, not wavering, the things he has learned. He has not gone back on a single issue: once he learned a concept, he stepped forward with purpose and reached for the next. He is like one climbing a craggy mountain, taking hold of each rock with grounded strength, conquering it, and moving forward and up.
He deserves the credit for his work and his progress, and G-d deserves all the glory.
