I think this season was one of the worse ever. With the exception of some, I don't think none of these people will ever sell records than those the previous years. And that's includes David A.

And you're still watching????

David C. will. And mark my words, Syesha has a future on the stage or on screen.

Huh? The former Idol finalists have been a very mixed bag. You think none of these three could be more successful than former first place finishers Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks ?

And you think they'll be less successful than former second place finishers Justin Guarini, Diana DeGarmo, Bo Bice (God bless him, but he's only now getting back into his career) and Katharine McPhee? Blake Lewis is likely only going to have moderate success.

And as far as the third place finishers, who even remembers Nikki McKibbin from season one (I checked on Wikipedia, after years of problems her first album has just come out)? Jasmine Trias from season three is really only popular in Hawaii and the Philippines. Vonzell Solomon from season four has the dubious honor of being the highest-finishing American Idol contestant to not get signed to a recording contract afterward, and has struggeled professionally. Kimberley Locke from season two and Elliot Yamin from season five been fairly successful; Melinda Doolittle's first post-Idol album will be released this year.

just caught up watching all the performances

It's a popularity contest now anyways, but I really do think David C. is the winner hands down for just plain old talent.

David A. has a great career ahead of him singing at Disney and even doing the big theme songs for their movies. I would never expect to hear him on the radio. Course all this is based on non-interference from good old dad.

Syesha will do well in NYC on stage just like a few of the past idols are doing now. Maybe even a musical or something on screen as well.

David C. will do the same as Chris Daughtry, but maybe a little better I think.

Eh, I'm not impressed by anyone left. I don't think I've ever been impressed, the only reason I watch the show is to make fun of it. Ah well.

David Archuleta singing With You was one of my prize moments of the show...not because it was great, but only cause it cracked me up. I chuckle now thinking of it.

Anyway, as far as David Cook...I don't get the appeal. When the man rocks out, they usually say it's not his best performance. Or he slows the song down, and then they enjoy it. Like he did with Baba O'Reilly, I thought that performance was awful. The song was mean to be anthemic and rocking...then he slowed it down. Other than that, I've come to expect him singing rock ballads every week...last night, for example...three rock ballads. Granted, he only chose one of those. But still...it's amusing that the songs chosen for him were ballads. Seems as if they know that's going to be the only way he sells records. I despise Daughtry too. And all jock rock. *cough*

Yeah...I read somewhere that the term is an "ironist." Meaning, you take special pleasure in bad art. That's me. You would be surprised by the things I watch only cause I think it's terrible.

and I always thought you guys were called masochists

I've watched some pretty bad movies by social standards that I absolutely loved, but that's about it.

David Cook is far and away the most talented.

However, I actually hope he doesn't win (see Daughtry).

I would hate to see him forced to record an album produced by people like Clive Davis, David Foster, and the rest of the 19 Records "pop" machine. Let David A have that honor

I'm really wondering how he will go about after AI with his Dad. As of now-- it's all not great things about his Dad being a stage parent and I can imagine future producers and recording companies second guessing if it'll be difficult to work with David A because of his Dad.

David Archuleta singing about his "boo" was one of the funniest moments on AI ever. We're talking on the level of Kevin Covais singing "Part Time Lover" here, folks.

Archie might as well quit the charade and admit he can't sing anything but schmaltzy ballads, take his second place trophy home, and enjoy recording his album of Diane Warren-penned love songs.

David Cook is gonna win this thing. And AI needs him to. Really bad.

One thing I found quite discouraging is that w/ as much as they pump up David A., they won't let him be current. They go all crazy for him when he sings the ballads, but when it's anyone else, it's all about "picking the next pop star". David A finally gets a chance to since something current & he gets the let down. There really is no consistency w/ the judges. They don't know what they want. I know what I want - new judges!

Overall, David C to me puts together a well choreagraphed program. I think lining up the the string instruments was a good idea. It helped his performance tremendously. Syesha seems to be all "Cher Vamp" & playing up the piano. I saw she did the same thing w/ a video on VFTW. She will have a hard time being accepted as contemporary w/ dancing around chairs & sitting on the piano.

I'm just too worried that David A is going have to kick daddyo to the curb someday. He's going to get way too frustrated w/ him. I can see a Makuly Culkin (sp) future (divorce) for them.

I think David C has it all wrapped up. kd

Archie can't sing love songs. Watching him sing love songs is like watching a father give the sex talk to his 13 year old daughter -- highly uncomfortable.

I would agree except that Archie sang it very badly. It was way off the beat. Of course the judges didn't point that out except for the cryptic advice from Paula to be careful not to hold out the notes and to be more crisp (or whatever she mumbled).

Don't you think that there's a possibility 19 Records has learned a lesson from the Daughterty situation?

Judge's Choice

David A--forgettable, athough our newspaper's blogger said he was brilliant for starting off a capella.

Syesha--yawn

David C--I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think he could pull it off but he did.

Contestant's Choice

David A--yuk. He sounds terrible trying to sing anything but his schmaltzy ballads.

Syesha--I actually liked her performance, but then I love Bob Fosse musicals.

David C--nothing spectacular

Producer's Choice

David A--right up his alley. That's probably why he'll get through tonight.

Syesha--our newspaper blogger said that the producers must be trying to get rid of Syesha since they stuck her with this song. Something about dancing penguins. Was this song from some kid's movie?

David C--hated it, and that's one of my favorite songs. As I said above, those strings just dragged it down into being elevator music. He would have been much better off singing it straight, since it would have fitted his own style better.

Yes, the animated film "Happy Feet" which is about penguins.

I must have missed the part where she wore a mini skirt. ...but I agree with Simon what she did is prob going to prove to be her ticket home, and that's unfortunate for her because she was actually coming back strong before what she did last night.

Well, that went down just as I expected it to.

I expect to see great things from the person going home tonight in the future. I think they are a very talented individual.

No, I don't think so because to be honest, AI is really killing music because there is no orginality and if the future of music is turning out manufactured pop stars, the music business is really in trouble, which is already is anyways.

quote:

And you think they'll be less successful than former second place finishers Justin Guarini, Diana DeGarmo, Bo Bice (God bless him, but he's only now getting back into his career) and Katharine McPhee? Blake Lewis is likely only going to have moderate success.

Justin had not been successful because he had his personal issues, before he landed the gig w/the T.V Guide channel, Diana has been on Broadway, Bo has been having medical issues before he got back in gear and Katherine's album has tanked.

That's my point. Just because you been on Idol it does not guarantee a successful music career. I'm not saying that these people will fall on their faces, but with slow record sales with some Idols, I believe that people are getting tired of the concept and they want to hear real music from real people.

no surprise at all that she went home...hey maybe I should compete for Simon's job.lol

Not sure if I will watch the final, but unless the tween votes are the deciding factor David C will prob. be the one who comes out on top. The problem is I don't see either of them becoming a huge star.
