I've been thinking about getting someone to come in and do some of the routine housework for me. Does anyone else have any help in this area? If so, how often do you have someone come in, and how much, on average, do you pay?
I'm thinking every other week would be enough, I think I can "maintain" in between if I know the major stuff is getting done.
I am just tired of coming home after a full days work and having to start "second shift" at home. Truthfully, lately it mostly doesn't get done, but I can't stand the mess. Id rather spend my time with my family, or even just relaxing with a book or watching tv.
I think I'm just tired, period.

I do housekeeping for a couple people. I clean my mom's house every week: I do things like dust, clean the bathrooms, vaccuum/mop the floors. Sometimes we do other special projects: like clean out the fridge/cupboards, etc.
I clean for another lady once every two weeks. I do about the same thing just about for her that I do for my mom except I do more in her kitchen: I clear all the counters and wipe them down well, I scrup her sink, I pull out her burners (she has a gas stove) and scrub them with a steel wool pad and the stove top, wipe down her counter top appliances. Other than that I clean her bathroom, dust, do the floors, and windows as needed. I spend about 2.5 hrs and make $40.
ETA: When I started working for this lady it was 3 hrs for $30. Then when the price of gas went up she said if I could do it in 2.5 hrs that was OK for the same pay. Then when I went through a family crisis she started adding $10 a time.

I have a maid that comes in once a month for $80. I also give her a Christmas bonus of about that much in a gift card, and a small gift basket. She does all the floors (vacuum, light hardwood polish, and kitchen), cleans the baths, dusts, de-scales the coffee maker, and such. It's the best money I spend every month. I've been doing this for over 10 years, since I got my first full-time job in TV. I told hubby that I just wasn't going to have time with the job and grad school to do everything, so we needed to outsource the heavy stuff or he was going to have to pick a few things to take on. He opted for the maid, LOL!

Well, the tingling has pretty much stopped but I still feel like I have my socks bunched up under my toes. I usually have bare feet. I've had to start remembering to wear slippers though because now they are cold all the time too. :(

I wish I had a cleaning lady, right now I am convinced my house smells, though no one else says it does. I really need to have a house cleaning day, the days I have time I dont have the umpf to do it. And when I am in the mood its while I sit here at work and cant do anything about it, the mood passes by 5 oclock!

Welcome to the joys of pregnancy! My smeller became crazy sensitive when I was expecting.
I'm also onboard with the need to clean before a cleaning lady came. One of my co-workers and I were making jokes about how it's easier to clean someone else's home as opposed to your own. We talked about swapping houses for cleaning, but then I realized that I'd have to scrub everything before I'd let her come to clean... which would really defeat the purpose!

OH, how SWEET!
My hubby has been buying me potted plants for my window sill, but I get to carry them in. Also fun, but I'd like to get a delivery.
My daughter did a bad thing last night. She insulted a SAHM.  We were at scouts and we have a 5 families. 2 moms work full time, one works part-time (and sets her own schedule) one is un-employed and one stays at home. The unemployed and SAHM mom's have big plans for during the day, during the summer activities but won't plan them. The expect the full-time workers to do so. Well, I wasn't there when they started talking about ideas for the summer and DeeDee told the SAHM that she could plan them because she doesn't work.
Now, DeeDee should not have said that and as a former SAHM I understand why my friend was upset. It was awful to have folks expect you to have all sorts of time to do things because you don't dress and drive everyday. But, this 35yo woman TATTLED on DeeDee when I got over there. So, I had to scold her a smidge since her misbehavior was recognized.
Never mind that this mom expects my kid to get there, somehow, during the day when I WORK all day.
I feel better now. I think I'll go back to working and then go home and clean.

It was a stressful scout meeting.  I'm blaming that.
She is a SAHM because hubby said so, then she does a lot during the day. The kids are in private school and they do without to pay for it on one check. She teaches gym class at the school and as a teachers aide in the classroom. (volunteer) Plus they are involved in so many ministries and she has a seasonal business. Couple that with the fact that it seems like someone is always sick in their family and I know she is busy.
Plus her hubby told her she isn't allowed to plan scout functions, but she wants to. So, it was her frustration talking as much as anything else.
It is funny, she will tell me all the time when DeeDee says immature things. You know, stuff that is rude, but you need to learn is rude. Like saying that a SAHM doesn't do anything. She just didn't know any better because it didn't come up before. Drives me nuts because it makes me feel like my daughter is somehow less than hers.

I wish I had thought of something that clever when I worked in daycare! Of course, our boss had us doubling as janitors and cooks, so that spent us of a lot of the energy that should have gone to the kids. Someday, I would love to do my own daycare, and I'll keep this in mind. I did do Q and U wedding, though, to show that Q and U always went together, and we did some other fun things. The first year I worked there went well, the second not so much..but a lot of it had to do with my health, my body just couldn't take it...plus my boss was difficult..but I digress. Perhaps that would be a good subtopic in here..what working women want/expect from their day care providers. Although, be careful when you complain to the director..you might not know the whole story, and for all you know the teachers could be doing their best, but they're discouraged because of their difficult boss..not speaking from experience or anything  .
P.S. I did work at in home day care before I worked at that one up there, and it was AWESOME..but my boss, alas, retired.

I've been SUPER blessed in the daycare arena. When I was expecting my first I worked as a teacher's aide at a preschool at my parents' church (which ultimately led to me coming to know the Lord. When Marshall was born with his medical problems, I knew where to turn for help because of how the director and other ladies there had modeled a Godly life for me, but I digress).
I eventually got a job in the church office, which meant that I got tuition for half price. The preschool is amazing! Marsh went there from 18 months through pre-k. Now Luke is in his second year there and Kenna will start when she's probably 3 (can't afford two tuitions right now). When they're not at preschool, my momma is a stay-at-home-grandma and loves on and cares for my babies for me. God has really placed me in a wonderful situation.
So, what makes the preschool so amazing? It's hard to put it into words, but here's what I can come up with:
- They love on my babies for me, hugs and kisses galore are given out
- They teach my little ones about Jesus
- I get full reports everyday. When they're bitty babies, I got a report every afternoon, listing when they were fed and how much, when their diapers were changed and if it was a poopy or just wet, what their disposition had been like. That really helped if we had a rough evening in pinpointing what might be wrong
- They have no problem with moms dropping in to visit
- They talk a lot to the children, even when they are bitty. Morning stroller rides are spent talking about the things they see and how God made it all, art time (yes they do art with the five-month olds too!) was spent talking about colors, lots of story times, etc
Those aren't all the great things, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Boosting this thread to the top, because I had a thought last night.
I was on the phone with my sister that lives next door discussing what we planned to feed the family for dinner tonight, since the two of us (ladies) are going out to dinner with our group that is going on the cruise.
Anyway...... we started running down the list of prepared dinners that we have frozen because we usually "double" cook on purpose.
Do any of you purposely double batch cook meals for the freezer or even do ONCE A MONTH COOKING?

I've always wanted to do once a month cooking, and never really have. Though I do usually freeze half a casserole when I make it, because usually a 9x13 is too much for just two. I plan to have several meals in the freezer before baby time/end of pregnancy time.

Yeah...... I've never done "once a month cooking" either..... but we are considering it, since we really like having food prepared, or partially prepared in the freezer.
