Here are two stranger at the door stories.

My front door has a foot square diamond shaped window in it. Shortly after I got the house, I was sitting in the living room and I looked over at the door to see a guy peering in the window. I went over and found a college student from a foreign country who was lost. He had gone from his dorm to downtown and could not find his way back home.

The second story was when I was woke up by the back door doorbell. Two college students were looking for a party they had heard about.

I see. My front door looks out to the hallway of my condo building which is lighted. So I can stand there and look at whoever is at the door and they don't even know I'm there. I just wait for them to leave. My unit is also at the back of the building; doesn't face the parking lot.

You most certainly do not! The way you described your situation (door opens to the outside, lots of windows, people can see your silhouette from outside, etc.), it pays to be careful. Err on the side of caution.

No you don't and I would say that safety comes first. What you need is a big, barking dog. Helps people to leave quicker when they don't really belong there. I can not say this loud enough, SAFETY COMES FIRST AT ALL TIMES.
