I can give some personal testament to spritual growth with the lord. I suppose the phrase "Growing with the Lord" is thrown around alot and sometimes with nothing behind it so it can be confusing to know how to gauge it. Well, for me i noticed that i began watching more Christian based programs like the 700 club, and various programs/sermons on tv networks such as Daystar and Skyangel. It seemed something moved me to do so. I also look back and remember a growth in how often i was reading the bible. THis one can be testament for both of us...i recnetly found my way here and began being active in the forums and other content without hesitation, its like i didnt even try or have to think about it. Eventually i also began becoming a sort of "go to guy" for friends who werent exactly beleivers in Christ, yet would talk to me about God and felt i was a good representation of the Faith. Now if we were to go back say 3-5 years ago, I was rarely watching christian based programs, reading the bible less, and speaking with people on forums and in person about Christ much less. As you grow youll be given small nuggets of information sorta like spritual truths as you listen to sermons or read scripture, its like a spritual fact that you know beyond your thoughts. As for more internal, when your by yourself and there is silence, observe your self for a moment and begin to gauge the inner-peace you feel and joy that comes from being a child of the living God.

I agree with some of the other posts, saying that it is a slow process that we may not notice. Those of us around us may see the changes in us, while we can not. It does not mean you are not growing. I guess you can gauge a little by your actions, how you handle situations now compared to a different time, and what you do with your time(ie, like jmjphe says about watching different shows than you used to, reading the bible more, and not only reading it, but understanding it).

I am also going through this right now, and have been told by others that they see a difference in me. I don't see it sometimes, I only see my shortcomings.

take dare and God bless

I am the same way and totally agree with you.

I tend to be very hard on myself, and I was sure that I wasn't doing any growing! Then I realized that my growth can be seen in the way I respond to situations and people. I don't fly off the handle as quickly as I used to. I don't panic as much since I've been forced to accept that God is in control, not me.

Another surefire yardstick for me is the extent to which the enemy is trying to derail me. I've learned in recent years that when either DH or I "take it up a notch" in our spiritual life, the devil gets awfully busy trying to throw us off the track. Now that I recognize it for what it is, I don't allow myself to get too bogged down in the situation - just trust that God will provide and protect, as always!

I have always wondered if I were gowing in the Lord like I should. A brother at he church I go to said he could see a change in me over the past few months and I was just wondering to myself what he could have meant by that. I couldn't see any change that I was aware of, but I realize others can see what we ourselves can't see.

Thanks for your response and welcome to Crosswalk.

If we are to look for growth in ourselves we should look to seeing the fruit of the Spirit in us. Is it there? Can you see more fruit now than previously? Are we becoming more like our Lord than we were before? All questions we probably ask ourselves all the time and for sure we will not see the changes as easily as others will. Yes there are signs of it in our habits yet sometimes we don't notice them easily either for a while. Trust in His word that He will complete the work He has begun in you. Don't worry if you are not seeing growth. If you are not growing in the Lord you will know it much easier for you will be growing away and it will show and you will sooner or later be in for a spankin. Like a few have said in comparing it to a plant growing it is not always evident day to day but in time will be.

Thanks so much for your encouraging words.I am seeing more fruit of the spirit in me and God has been using me more lately.I am trusting in the Lord more as well. Its just whenever I slip I have trouble believe I could be growing.I am my own worst critic you know.

Welcome to the club is my best reply to this for as we grow in Him we also are more aware of our unworthiness. This tends to make us think we are wrong yet if you really consider it, you will see it gives you all the more reason to really appreciate His love for us. In realizing we are so wretched we should also realize how much love He has to love such a one as us. That is why the song Amazing Grace, I prefer to sing all six verses, is so popular and a standard that just about any church will know and sing. Because when you consider what He did for such people as we then you can only consider His grace to be the most amazing and awesome thing in life. That is a lot of love there.

Just the opinion of a small town preacher
