I have nothing fun to say about our place at the moment. Since we are renting and moving again in 4 months we didn't decorate. No pictures, no mirrors, no shelves with books or ornaments, no craft area ( ) nothing! It is quite boring looking. I brought out only a few things so our livingroom and kitchen didn't look so empty. Once we find and buy a house I will have so much more to say! Most of our stuff is still in boxes. I didn't see the point in taking things out just to have to pack them up again so soon. I am going to be sooooo excited when I can take everything out of their boxes again!

Well...we just finished Hannah's new big girl room on Sunday...I'll post pictures after I take some!

We're in the process of buying some more blinds for our windows...Joel had ordered some for our formal living room...but they were the wrong shade! So they went in Hannah's new room!

We have 3 rooms in our house that are void of any real furniture because we'll not go into debt to have a pretty house...but we'll get those rooms fixed up when the budget permits.

Well, soon (meaning when tax refund comes ) I'm going to finish some things in the kitchen! I'm going to put up that rustic metal tile backsplash stuff behind my stove. I can't find a link to show what I'm talking about. I'm also going to get some more rustic/folk/primitive stuff for the walls.

I just hung an awesome old window on the wall. See HERE. The pic actually doesn't do it justice, it's a pretty neat window. I think I'm going to lower it a little and use a piece of barn wood on the bottom of it to make it a shelf.

It's fun that this thread just got revived. I spent most of the day yesterday recovering my kitchen chairs. I was able to get 3 out of 4 done. I couldn't get the 4th one finished because I was having to pull the old covers off outside because they were such a mess. Well, it started to rain, so I had to stop. It was still raining today, but hopefully I can finish tomorrow.

That's a very pretty window Rachel!!! I think it would make a very nice shelf!!!

We are using a lot of our tax refund too to do things around here. We are starting with the kitchen. It really needs to be gutted, but that's NOT in the budget. So instead we are doing all sorts of things in there....starting with painting everything. The walls are a weird peachy/yellowish color (PIC). That part is going to be painted a dark mocha color. Then the cabinets are going white and the chair rail and below are going white, along with the trim. It's the only room in the whole house that doesn't have white trim.
The blinds are coming down off the windows...no reason to have them there since all three windows look out into our very private back yard.
I want to get the rest of my decorations out and possible find some more (Coca-Cola stuff).
Paul has to rewire some things, and try to put a light above the sink...the wires are there for it, but no light.
We need to do something with the counter top. The people that did it put in cheap white 6in tiles and their grout lines are about 3/4 of an inch thick...so it's a HUGE pain to clean. Those have to be fixed....cleaning them is removing more and more of the grout and leaving big gaping holes there.
We also need to get a "new" refrigerator...the one we have now was one we got for $50 when we moved here...it is only 5ft tall and maybe 2ft wide. It was sold to us by a guy moving out of the barracks...so it's definitely not made for a family this size. BUT it has worked very well so far. There is a place in town that revitalizes old appliances...we got our washer and dryer from him and were very pleased, so that's the first place we are going to look for the "new" refrigerator...see what that guy has.

Paul just painted Judah's room (in our new house) this evening. We picked THIS COLOR - Belgian Chocolate. I haven't seen the paint yet. Paul said it's pretty dark, but that it looks good. We're going to paint the trim- I'll decide for sure when I see it, but I think probably blue. If not blue then just a lighter brown/beige color.

I'll post pictures when I get over there and get opinions

Our new house has a master bath and then another full bath. The 'everyone' bathroom was repainted by our landlord - I haven't seen it, but Paul said it's a cream color. The mirror above the sink was hideous, so we had them take it out (before they painted!!) and we said we'd buy our own mirror - so I will post pictures of that too for opinions!

Ohhh... I just need to get over to our house and post pics so I can get ideas from y'all!!

THIS is the bedding we have right now. Paul said he *thinks* the bedroom was painted cream as well. I may paint an accent wall, but will have to see how everything looks all together.

I am so excited to live somewhere that we're allowed to paint without having to paint it back when we leave!! And a HOUSE!! HURRAY!!!

I plan on redoing ours too!! Some of the ladies from church have offered to help me (one of them owns the stapler, and they've worked on chairs before.) I think it will be simple just looking at how our chairs are put together, but I am so open to the help!
My boss gave me the table/chairs and they were yucky to begin with (the seat part!) They were a cream color, so they had signs of wear and food Two years later they are NASTY looking!! I tried washing a couple of them and it just got worse!!
What is a decent price for fabric to recover chairs? I looked quickly at JoAnnes and it was $20 - $40 a yard!

ETA : HERE is a picture of our table/chairs - you can kind of see the style of the chairs, and I am open for ideas on fabric. This picture is from our old apartment... but I think the colors will be similar.

oh wow....I like that....I might choose something like that for the top of the walls in our kitchen!!! We want to do the bathroom in a brown color too, so maybe that will be in there too!!! I was thinking darker but Paul thinks my idea might be too much for a very small bathroom.

Love the colors in your bedding Jessica!!!!! One of my favorite color to decorate with is red.
HERE is our bedroom set.

it's very easy...and a stapler is only about ten bucks...a great investment if you ask me!!!!
You can also cover them with fabric and plastic (from the fabric store) so that you can easily wipe them off when your kids (*hubby*) get something on them.

Jess, how fun to have a house! We painted in our apartment and it makes it feel so much more "homey".

For decorator fabric... Watch at Joann's, they often have 40-50% off their Home Decor fabrics, and if you sign up for their sale flyers they sometimes have 40% off coupons.

~~~~~~~~~~
We have 2 accent walls painted, one in our living room(on the wall with the fireplace), and one in the dining room. I am planning on haning a mirror over the fireplace to help open up the room some more, but I am at a total loss for ideas in the dining room. I'll post pictures later on...
ummm....you are looking at upholstery fabric dear...you don't have to have that for dining room chairs...that's for redoing a sofa (and even then, that's overpriced). I would suggest you tart with the color you want....then go look at places like Wal-Mart, etc...smaller places...it's not as expensive (because it's not as high quality, but you don't need that for what you want to do)
I don't need upholstery fabric?? REALLY???!!!??? I didn't know that! What kind of fabric do I need?
I edited that post to add pictures of the style of chairs/table. The dining room itself may lend itself to ideas - it has a fireplace in it, but kind of a rustic one. I'm not a "country" style person, so I need to make it look modern.
I really don't like the plastic over the chairs look - I'd rather get something that could 'hide' the smears, and then replace in a few years than have plastic
That paint was really inexpensive - well, I thought... it was at Lowe's for $12/gallon. And he used less than 1 gallon.
Are you/have you painted your bedroom Sarah? Our colors are SO similar for the bedroom!!
I am thinking of painting our kitchen that brown color and then doing a sponge painting over top in a lighter color. But I will determine for sure once I'm in there.
ETA: I want to see your place Ryanne! I like your style
we haven't painted anything in this house yet...the bedroom is what we are going to pull the color for the main part of the house out of. We are going to try to do a shade that will match the kind of golden tones in the fabric.
HERE is a scanning of the fabric colors better. We figure we can do something close to that gold tone for our room, the hallway, the living room and dining room.
LOL...you need something that has fabric strength in both directions...like canvas or denim (though it doesn't have to be one of those, just pick up some of both of those and pull the fabric both ways and you will see what I am talking about). Remember that canvas can easily be died...you just have to make sure to wash the sizing out of it first. You don't want a 100% cotton...it would be too thin when you start scrubbing it to clean it off. Poly stretches too much, so stay away from that too.
I hope someday my house will actually be decorated. Right now the walls are white with mismatched brown and tan furniture and white bookshelves. I would love to decorate in the tan and red color scheme.
I just found our bedding set after looking and looking I am so excited. THIS is our new bedding set. I am not sure still what color we will do the walls and bathroom, but I am still so excited to get this part of the house done. We are wanting to eventually redo the kitchen, but its not top priority because it will be the most expensive to do right now. I have been looking at accent pieces though and when I see something if budget permits I buy it. Right now we have nothing down our hallway so I am in the process of looking for wall decor for that. Its not a normals size (as far as width) hallway, but I don't know if it would be to much having stuff on both sides or not. Its not extremely long though.
I can't wait until we have a house and can really decorate.
Right now we have a beautiful dining room set (though the chairs need new fabric). There is a big dark wood cabinet, my grandparents brought it from Holland with them when they came here - great story behind it. Right now it's sitting in my dad's basement because we don't have room for it.
All of our walls are off white, I don't paint when I rent.
Our living room has a nice "island" theme (but not tacky). We have a statue from Cuba, a beautiful bright painting from the Dominican Republic, plus a chess board and pieces from Cuba as our decorating pieces. Our wedding photos on the beach are also hanging.
That's about all the decorating I've done so far.
Mine's ecclectic. Mostly country-ish. I've been trying to keep a blue-and-white theme in the living and dining room.
Except the boys room which is primary colors and cars and trucks.
I can find canvas for a few dollars a yard (wal-mart). at a fabric store it would be under five.
you can also use velvet and if you find a nice rubber stamp you can iron that image onto the velvet...that looks nice (though not sure it is your style). If you do that I would suggest putting a layer of canvas under it though...so the batting doesn't start to come up through it.
You may want to reconsider the whole plastic idea...I was tired of grodie looking seats and I found beautiful fabric by Nautica on clearance at Joannes and I wanted to keep it nice, so I covered in plastic. At first I wast a little horrified at the shininess, but the first time I wiped off spaghetti sauce I was sold Well, when we moved, I changed our colors, so I had to recover the seats and I decided to leave off the plastic and guess what....not even 6 months and they are RUINED I am sick about it. The fabric is beautiful and absolutely not cleanable...never again until my kids are much, much older!!
I wish we could do more decorating to our house. Next on our agenda is to paint the living room and get new coffee and end tables (instead of the TV tables that have been there for 3 years). It might be a while before we get to that point though. All of our extra $$ for a while will be going to pay for the new air conditioner we just had put in.
Do you like a bold print like THIS?
I really like your table & chairs...they are black, right? If you wanted to use a wamer color in the seats you could do something like THIS
I used a canvas material that had a print. I got it at Wal-Mart for less than $4 a yard. I thought about using plastic, but decided against it. I may regret it, but since I was able to recover 4 chairs for less than $10, I figure, if I need to do it again in a couple of years, no biggie.
