Michelle, they also make those sticky things you can use to hang up pictures and they work fine, my parents use them with some frames and such because they hate putting wholes in the walls lol

Hanging on cement walls - you need a hammer drill, some plugs and good hooks. Failing putting that much effort into it, try command strips - those hooks which can be just stuck onto the wall and then you pull on the tab to remove them when you no longer want them there.

We bought new bedding today. I now have navy blue sheets on my bed which look really good against our white quilt cover.

And we've laybyed woollen underlays for everyone and new woollen doonas (continental quilts).

Bethany - cute new pictures!! I am never on myspace, so I'm glad you mentioned here that there were new pictures up. Your home is gorgeous!!
You have done a beautiful job decorating!

In the second guest room (did you say you called it the 'pink room'?) on that wooden shelf by the door that's holding knick knacks I think a lace or crocheted doily would add to the girly theme in the room. That was my one thought

Thanks, Jessica! Hey, that's a good idea, and I do have some extra doilies I could pull out and put there!

OK...the kitchen.....it's not totally done yet....still have seven cabinet doors to finish painting, but the ones we have done are up (I still have to fix some scuff marks on them from hubby moving them around over and over, but now they are up and won't be damaged again!!!). We are also about to invest in a refrigerator (thread about that in H/G folder) and are looking for a used table we can purchase to put in there in the big empty eat in area....but as it is right now here are pics of it so far (ignore the floor...needs to be mopped and I can't right now and hubby just had knee surgery....so it needs a good scrubbing...also ignore the hole in the ceiling in one pic...hubby in the attic the other day....so now we have to do a patch job on that.)

Looks good, Sarah! The whole room sure does look cozier than when you bought it! I love the triangle valance. The texture of the fabric is interesting.

thanks ladies......actually those are just gingham check napkins (cloth napkins). I don't have my sewing machine right now, so they are tacked up there with just staples....but once I get my sewing machine fixed I am going to sew them up right and hang them on a rod. The windows just looked so bare though without them...so since I knew it would be a few months til I could get then sewn (my mom is bringing me her machine when she comes for the new baby's birth at the end of June) I figured I didn't want to wait to get them at least up there. Staples will come out easily...lol. Until I get my sewing machine I still have sheets hanging on the windows in the living room and the girls room...so at least it isn't sheets!!!

We're doing a little redecorating. It's a really slow process and I can't just run to Target, Walmart or Home Depot. We have Walmart and Home Depot but they are different here in Mexico than in the states. Last week I picked up some drapes for a few rooms and am looking forward to getting them up! Yesterday I worked painting white over the forest green ceiling trim and a myrtle green wall in the guest room. I found out that our flat ceiling paint by Gideon(?) is different from the Dutch-boy white paint I can buy here at Home Depot. The Dutch-boy is much brighter and the other brand has a grey tint. Strange!

You could paint this white if you want to, but personally, I like it. It adds character and charm to your room. What I wouldn't give for a rustic fireplace like that. Last summer I spent months stripping 3 coats of paint off of the brick around our house in Kansas. What a horrible chore! I don't like painted brick.

Cute Lady!

I'd like to see you get some more lighting in your kitchen! Take a few pictures with the sunlight too!

Our home is concrete here in Mexico. We have to drill, use a wall hanger/it's a plastic plug, and then use a screw or nail. You can nail some items but if they're heavy, you'd better use a drill.

It's fun and frustrating down here. I keep bringing in more US stuff. I'm working on things. It's so dirty here! Girls, you have NO IDEA! Our home is 192 meters that could be wet mopped daily because it's so dirty right now.

LOL...yeah I will have to do that tomorrow when the sun is shining in nice and bright....it's a very bright kitchen during the day, but not at 6:30 in the morning when I took those pics.

lol...unfortunately they did try to help way too much. I am sure we have hair marks on several places...and we had to wash one of them cause she just wouldn't leave the door alone when it was wet.

Sarah, I love your color choice! Your kitchen looks great! I think it is so cute seeing your cats in so many pictures! When I paint I always throw our cats in the basement because they would love to run all over freshly painted walls and then rub on everything else.

LOL...we crated one of them during some of the painting...two went outside most of the times...and one is only curious some, not like the other totally indoor one (who happens to be the youngest, and the most fiesty). We put her in our room one time to paint and she tore up the carpet at the doorway trying to get out...so she got crated the next time...lol. The worst was keeping the KIDS out of there!!! We gave them their own small rollers and brushes, so they have been pretending to paint every other wall in our house....lol. Jack has now got one sleeper with paint on it because he wouldn't stay out when I was doing the doorway....lol

ok...for the person that asked me to take some day time pics....here you go (ignore the dishes...hubby is soaking the dishwasher guts parts and cleaning them out, so I can't load it til he is done with that)....

Love the kitchen Sarah. The daytime pics do it better justice imo.

lol...yeah they really do!!! It is a very bright kitchen during the day!! We still want to do a few things in there...small things that are just cosmetic and can be done over time. Like changing out the ugly basic brass light fixtures (I HATE brass!!!)...put in a light over the sink...replace the counter tops with something else...fix the ceiling where hubby's foot slipped last week when he was in the attic...lol. Basic things though. (Oh and get a new refrigerator which will change the whole look of the place and hopefully find a small table to go in there!!)

Ok ladies, I just need opinions.
Eventually (once the church is built so our basement can then be finished so our guest room can then move to the finished basement ) I will need to start working on the baby's room. Here are the "things":

1. We are not finding out the gender.
2. I truly do want gender neutral. So many things claim to be gender neutral and are actually either pretty boyish or pretty girlish. It's easier to go more boyish and have a girl than the other way around, but I digress...
3. I am not a big fan of cartoony/kiddy prints or themes. That's just me. I'm more of a classic decorator.
4. I don't necessarily need to make this room just a "nursery." If it will grow with the baby, great. If not, that's ok too, as we will hopefully have more kids.
5. I'm not a big spender. But most of you on here aren't either.

I found THIS set and liked it for a few days. Now I'm not so sure. I think part of the appeal was the "awww" factor, since my mom used to call me "Sweet Pea" all the time. I think I'm over that. I also think the prices for this stuff are ridiculous. I wouldn't buy it myself, and I can't really justify someone else buying it for me either.

Then I was thinking, maybe I could do a mocha chocolate color (similar to Sarah's kitchen) and a lighter tan color. Do one wall of thick stripes (maybe 12-ish inches wide???) and the other walls the lighter color. Or do the thick stripes up to a chair rail and a lighter color on top? The trim in our house in oak colored. Dh mentioned the possibility of painting the trim in that room white if we need to. Anyway, the idea with this was then once we have the baby, we could accent with pink or blue, and we could reaccent as needed for future babies. But then I was thinking....how bad would it look to do the mocha/tan with green (either mint green? brighter green?) accents?

Here are pictures of the room right now. The walls are kind of bare...this is the room BIL and SIL moved out of. Right now it's a pale purple color. Which would be great for a girl, but I have not guarantees.

Pic 3

Any expert opinions?

I love the chocolate/ mint green color scheme. I also like the chocolate with pink or blue... any would work.

I'm not a fan of accent walls, so I say don't do one wall with stripes. It's hard to keep an accent wall balanced most of the time. I vote for doing the stripe under the chair rail. Just remember whatever furniture you place in the room will reduce the amount of lower wall space that is seen. I would leave the oak chair rail, if possible. It would be good if you could get a general color scheme together and then pick out the bedding. You can coordinate the pain colors around the oak and fabric since those two things are the "hard things."

Zippy, thanks for your thoughts.
At this point, there isn't a chair rail in the room at all. So we have some freedom there. And I like the mint accent color better, only because then I could have it taken care of before the baby comes. I haven't seen any sample rooms with those colors, so I wasn't sure if that sounded gross or not.
If I go with this color scheme, I don't think I will buy an actual bedding set. Just sheets, blankets, etc. that go with the color scheme.

the bedding sets....you need to decide if it's even worth it to you to get the full set. Sometimes it's just easier to make a blanket (or buy a single one) and get the other things or make them. Are you going to use the baby bed bumper? If not then I wouldn't suggest getting the whole bedding set. (If you don't know about if you will use it or not, ask in the pregnancy thread about the bumpers..>Donna has some info on those and why not to use them)

Exactly. Like I said, it's a huge chunk of money for what....a theme for the room? Basically. Because the quilt won't be used for a good while, the bumpers won't be in....yup, that's pretty much it. I can buy sheets and colored blankets for decoration, put up a valance, etc.

Good...you guys are talking me into this.
